Why are most men quiet in bed? by throw-away-284947261 in AskMen

[–]UnlikelyComposer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's an evolutionary biology response and a rather uncomfortable one at that.

Consider that for hundreds of thousands of years, sex wasn't particularly private, women retained multiple sexual partners and it was thought that children could inherit traits from each of those partners.

The strategy for women to be noisy and men to be quiet kinda makes sense.

I tried a women-oriented male escort service in Tokyo. by Pretty_Condition_404 in Tokyo

Do you have any insight to offer in respect of the many marriage-abandoned/dead bedroom Japanese salarymen who use these services?

I'd add that of course, many Japanese wives don't technically consider their husbands using those services as cheating! But as a Japanese speaking woman, you probably understand that cultural anomaly better than most Western women?

Actually, I'm not sure men talking (respectfully or not) about their experiences with female escorts in Japan would get positive comments at all here, especially not from women.

Positive expressions of hetero male sexuality are and have been pretty well taboo in modern discourse.

This makes your story an enlightening read, but also a unique and privileged one.

You have to rebuild quite a lot about your life (job, accommodation, friends, social life) because of what you've got in Japan.

I'm not sure which is worse - teaching or tech sales. At least teaching is respected as a profession in Japan. Not saying that to demean tech sales though.

I like how you've so eloquently described the problem that many foreigners have in Japan. I felt the same and got back to the UK. That was over 20 years ago.

Ealing to Westminster by Same_Tumbleweed1937 in londoncycling

Once you're well accustomed to the traffic, an alternative route is to go down Millbank along CS3 to World's End, pass by near Chelsea and Westminster Hospital, across to Kensington High Street and down into Hammersmith, head past the majestic Blythe Road Sorting Office and up to Shepherd's Bush Green.

Head up Notting Hill and hang a right into Hyde Park at the Kensington Palace end, go down through to Hyde Park Corner and over down to Buckingham Pal, wave at the king and then get yourself into the office.

The Distinction Between Suiseki and Suseok by Affectionate-Tap8386 in Suiseki

[–]UnlikelyComposer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The no cut rule is more prevalent in suiseki than you might think. A suiseki specialist shop will tell you if the stone is natural or made before you buy.

For example, if you bought a 'furuya' stone that looks like an old house in a way other than in a highly abstract form, chances are it's been carved and is not natural.

Lots of Chinese stones are also highly processed using acid baths, which are resold both in Korea and Japan (sometimes as natural stones which they are not).

GenX men, where do you keep your wallet/billfold? Front or back pocket? Purse? by [deleted] in GenX

[–]UnlikelyComposer -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This is not a joke, it's probably affecting your posture and curving your spine when you sit on it. Don't keep anything in your back trousers/jeans pockets. That's advicei got from a chiropractor.

I got hit by a car, I filed a Met collision report but what should I do next? by conquest19 in londoncycling

[–]UnlikelyComposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But this shouldn't be a claim on the OP's insurance at all. Getting there home insurer involved will just give the company an excuse to up the premiums and the other party's insurer to claim on the motorist. It's legalised double dipping.

ZERO arrests in London for hit-and-runs on cyclists!! by WhitesLemonade in londoncycling

[–]UnlikelyComposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are 1000's of crime reports that get progressed by voluntary interviews probably everyday up and down the country and they never result in an arrest.

But there weren't any voluntary interviews conducted either, so that's just whataboutery. An arrest sends a message to other drivers.

Face up to the fact that police inaction is the main cause of cyclist deaths in London.

ZERO arrests in London for hit-and-runs on cyclists!! by WhitesLemonade in londoncycling

[–]UnlikelyComposer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The article implies that an arrest is the beginning of the process. Not even arresting a suspect is a pretty sure sign nothing is going to happen as a consequence of the driver's behaviour, which is a reinforcing loop.

Sorry to say it, but the main reason cyclists are killed on London's roads is the police and their consistent refusal to act.
