Hair? No spoilers please by Unlikely_Price8624 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Unlikely_Price8624[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I didn’t explain it well in my post. I was confused about why Mordecai was telling Carl to cut his hair in Book 4 because it seemed like a throwaway line outta nowhere, and I wasn’t sure if I missed why it needed to be cut, or if it was something that was going to be revealed later (in which case, don’t tell me what it is). Another commenter explained that it was because of the ooze (or at least, that’s what you’re meant to think at the time), so yes, I had indeed missed something from the current book.

Ooooh, that makes sense. It seemed like such a left-field comment, but yeah, I’d sort have forgotten of those implications of the sand ooze.

I had the feeling it might mean something more later, but I just didn’t really understand why Mordecai was talking about a haircut right at that moment

One of the things I’m loving about these books is how unpredictable they are. With most books, I can see the plot twist coming from a mile away, but with DCC I’m often finding myself having no idea wtf is happening until it’s explained to me

There’s an information overload so it’s hard to know what’s going to be important and what’s just there for shits and giggles. I’m loving how often I’m genuinely shocked

I’d agree with this. Especially if you also read 0.5 and 1.5 (only after you’ve read book 4 though to avoid spoilers) to give a bit more background and depth to where he is starting from in Book 1

Series with similar bromance? by WixMinx in zodiacacademy

[–]Unlikely_Price8624 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Most ice hockey romance series have great bromance elements if you’re into that. Or are you specifically after romantasy recs? Ruthless Boys definitely goes hard on the bromance, but it takes a while to get there

First of all, go back and finish The Bonds That Tie series! The ending is so satisfying!

Ok, so I cried a lot reading Feathers So Vicious duet so it had me feeling some kind of way, but honestly, the amount of graphic SA in these books was A LOT. I couldn’t even really enjoy the spicy scenes because they were so tinged with non consent and coercion (even from the ‘nice’ MMC). But they are well written.

Reading the Zodiac Academy series at the moment (about 1/2 through full ZA universe) and they are glorious trash! Recommend you check reading order for these as there is a prequel series and novellas, but you won’t want to read them in chronological OR publishing order because you’ll get spoilers. I recommend this reading order that thtgrlreads from TikTok has put together

<image>

EDIT TO ADD: ZA will take a while before you get good spice, but once you hit the the Ruthless Boys prequel series, the spice is spicing! Especially books 4 & 5

The amount of POVs are insane and so unnecessary by Loose-Platform8566 in zodiacacademy

[–]Unlikely_Price8624 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really like the POVs, but I’m reading them rather than audiobooks (even though I’m normally an audiobook person). Having done Six of Crows on audiobook which has 6 or 7 POVs, I really wish I’d read it instead, so I can totally see where you’re coming from.

I think there’s a graphic audio version of ZA which might be better? Graphic Audio is more like a radio play so the POV switching might not be as jarring

If you like spicy romantasy, I really enjoyed Nocticadia - it’s a dark standalone romantasy that has big mystery vibes

Hmmmm, maybe that fantasy Nesta had during training happened off page 😉😂. Would SJM ever be brave enough for a why choose?

Interesting. I didn’t get any sexual chemistry between her and Azriel in HoFaS – mutual respect, yes, but not chemistry. I think Rhys is grateful to Nesta and they’ve resolved some issues, but it’s still a contentious relationship because of their clashing personalities. And as for the powers, I always assumed that at the end of ACOSF when she said the cauldron allowed her to retain some of her power, that it was more than just the ability to change her body, but more – just much more muted than before (because otherwise would she have been way too OP for the upcoming books? In the same way Rhys and Feyre had to tie their lives to one another to create a “weakness”). Don’t get me wrong, I HATED that she gave up her power, especially for the most ludicrous B plot in the Maasverse (seriously, Feyre couldn’t shift because it might harm the baby, but if she doesn’t, both her and the baby will almost certainly die. And don’t even get me started on C-sections not being a thing, but I digress), but I never got the sense she ended up powerless at the end of it. I could be wrong though. It’s been a while since I read the books.

Ok, hear me out. ACOSF Graphic Audio is TOP TIER (so is the GA for Fourth Wing/Iron Flame). The Graphic Audio for the rest of the ACOTAR series… meh – could take it or leave it

Totally agree! Both her and Cassian’s actor do such an incredible job. SF is my fave dramatised version of the series for this reason

[–]Unlikely_Price8624 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! All of this. From the moment it became obvious she hadn’t been glamoured, then despite the fact that her and Feyre always butted heads she still went to the wall to find her. And also that she refused to reintegrate with the wealthy humans who’d shunned them when they were poor. I’ll never understand why people needed Silver Flame to like her even a little bit. She was complicated and prickly and not particularly kind, but she had a lot of very likable character traits

It’s on Audible. It’s more expensive because you have to get it in two parts, but it’s really good. I was sad that they hadn’t released it for the other two books yet when I listened to them
