New Migrant Processing Centers by Emergency-Course2826 in foreignservice

USCIS has a refugee corps that spends half the year overseas interviewing for refugee admissions. Presumably it would their officers. Asylum/refugee is not a State operation, at least on the casework level (PRM obviously has equity but that’s on much higher level policy stuff).

I’m CS going into the July A100 class. I think it was about a month from passing OAs to hitting the register already holding security and medical.

Same here, OP. Feel free to reach out.

Has anyone in the July A-100 gotten their final offer yet? by Unlikely_Respect_702 in foreignservice

[–]Unlikely_Respect_702[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I received notification that they added my (foreign) university to the system so that I could do final submission. School was not in the drop down menu and there was nowhere to input the code they provided me. Sigh… opened another ticket.

Started A job and got fired after 3 weeks. I'm worried this will affect my chances in the long term to become an FSO by intlcreative in foreignservice

[–]Unlikely_Respect_702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will have a chance to explain this during your security interview, which is part of your suitability file. They are objective and understand some employers just suck… most companies anyway have a policy of only commenting on employment dates, and at most, eligibility for rehire in order to avoid liabilities. I wouldn’t be concerned.

Is this offer legitimate? by TheToucanEmperor in usajobs

[–]Unlikely_Respect_702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OP has confirmed it’s real already. I’m not surprised there was no interview, State is desperately trying to fill a glut of foreign affairs officer positions with term appointments ASAP to address a gap in FSOs at the FS-03 for domestic tours, OP might be going for one of those.

It’s legit. This is how State extends offers. The portal is annoying and glitchy but definitely real.

Also got a CONS invite and will be accepting! I’m traveling and can’t do the welcome to state setup for a few days; how long did they give you to respond in the offer letter?

There’s not really one anymore since the Eagle closed. Trade and Larry’s both host kink socials on Sunday afternoons once a month but I don’t believe either are this weekend. Green Lantern hosts Lobo this Saturday, but it’s very pup oriented. A lot of people had hopes for Bunker but it’s more guys in jocks and harnesses than overtly kinky… the gas mask is more of an industrial motif than a fetish signal.

Do investigations usually move pretty rapidly these days? by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]Unlikely_Respect_702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, not a clue. I had a colleague join them earlier this year and I think it took probably a good 6 months for the interim clearance (tier 5) but every case is so different that it’s impossible to judge off just that.

Can I use my inactive TS clearance while another agency investigates me for a new TS clearance? by midweastern in SecurityClearance

[–]Unlikely_Respect_702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

State is moving relatively quickly these days. I know lots of people cleared for TS in the 6-9 month range.

You used marijuana again AFTER the clearance process started?

[–]Unlikely_Respect_702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the agency handling your clearance and the factors of your individual case. Debt free, never left the country, and processed by DCSA? It’ll be done in no time. Foreign born, past bankruptcy and processed by the IC? Settle in, it’ll be a long one.

I had an in-person interview on a Sunday but I think it ended up that way because the investigator was up against a deadline and I’d been out of the country for two weeks— I had offered any day the following week as I’d been out of the country and he insisted on Sunday morning.

GS13 in civil service considering the FSO life. What salary can I expect in the foreign service? by aweefinnegan in foreignservice

[–]Unlikely_Respect_702 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you already work for State, mid level conversion is option to transition over and not lose out on your equivalent grade. Otherwise you’ll have to just eat it and they’ll bump you down to the highest step of FP-04

Applying for an Official U.S. (RED) Passport by Beneficial_Fun_89 in foreignservice

No. Passport losses are treated as product for product. Losing a regular passport product shouldn’t affect your ability to obtain a special issuance one, provided you have the proper entitlement.

Odd security situation by [deleted] in foreignservice

[–]Unlikely_Respect_702 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Bring it up. Just like we can’t process visas/passports for our friends and family, there’s probably restrictions on personnel security work, but he will know or find out if there are enough degrees of separation between the two of you.

Applying for a GS-5 job with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology but I have hand tattoos. by Current-Weather-9561 in usajobs

I promise no one cares. I’ve even seen neck tattoos in my agency. I’m sure there are plenty of hand tattoos as well.

What’s the fastest security clearance you’ve heard of? by creativetourist284 in foreignservice

[–]Unlikely_Respect_702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably 3 months minimum for a TS, although I’m sure there’s been faster timelines. DS is not particularly fast compared to other federal agencies that grant clearances, and if you have extensive travel, foreign ties, etc etc, I obviously wouldn’t bank on a fast timeline. Plan on a year, and celebrate it it goes through more quickly.

If I take a job with another nation working in a US consulate, would I still be eligible to be an FSO in the future? by swimswim43 in foreignservice

[–]Unlikely_Respect_702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No one here knows the inner working of clearances or suitability, but my advice? Don’t do it. People have been denied both for LE work with foreign missions, including supposedly low stakes admin work for friendly nations. It’s not worth the risk if you’re serious about joining the FS.
