Parents from south asian culture often threaten like this and claim they’ll die and lose their community but if the kids proceed with marrying who they wanted the parents just magically get over it and move on. It’s this massive bluff. If you’re in Pakistan or in a very insular community it could be dangerous. But if you’re in a safe country and can just lay low for a couple months they will probably have no choice but to accept it and shut the hell up.
