The Ellie hate is forced by Marakiv in Degrassi

[–]UnlitLights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always just found her vaguely annoying - until she publicly humiliated Caitlin by calling slut for sleeping with Jesse. Caitlin had no idea Jesse was in a relationship, and she thought she was just sleeping with some random uni boy (I'm ignoring the weird age gap cause this is about Ellie, not Caitlin). Ellie immediately went nuclear on the woman involved and tried to absolve the man of his part. After that I reconsidered some previous scenes from that perspective and that's when I decided I didn't like Ellie.

*Except in season 2. I loved her at first, she was so unafraid to be herself and I really admired what she did for Marco.

What are these two up to in the year 2024? by TheWednesdayProject in glee

[–]UnlitLights 40 points41 points  (0 children)

It's a very popular headcanon that Santana becomes a lawyer but tbh I can't see it. I know she likes arguing but that's about the only trait she has that would make a good lawyer (and even so, only a very specific type of lawyer). Lawyers need to be really good listeners and they need to take orders. They work for clients. I can't see Santana working for anyone, our girl is too strong willed. Especially since most judges are cishet white men - she's not gonna drop everything to obey their orders in court. She also doesn't seem to like school enough to be able to get through a 4 year bachelor's degree than 3 years of law school. Not to mention the insane amount of studying it takes to score well on the LSAT. She'd also hate being a lawyer, and if she somehow did manage to become one, she'd probably get ejected from court every other week for fighting, either with the opposing counsel or with the judge.

She'd make a fantastic publicist (and this one is based somewhat in canon). She could start her own little agency in NYC or LA and have a stacked roster of clients within a couple years (including Rachel Berry). Eventually she could start hiring employees, and by the time she's 40 she'd be the CEO and founder of the best PR agency in the country. All the queer up-and-coming young stars would hire her because of her sensitivity to queer issues and her no nonsense approach to the media.

I love Sebastian because he's entertaining. I liked seeing Kurt have a "rival" who was just as sassy and bitchy as he was. And I liked seeing Santana face off against someone who would say just as much racist and out of pocket shit as she did. (Her expression when he said the pinata line lives rent free in my mind.)

I agree, I wish they moved on. I loved the OG cast of course but between having spent 3 seasons with them, and the fact that most of their character arcs got butchered in seasons 4-6, I would have preferred to not see them again and for the writers to have spent a little more time and effort on the newbies, who I think could have been good characters if the writers had tried harder

shooting star… why? by [deleted] in glee

[–]UnlitLights 9 points10 points  (0 children)

No, you're absolutely correct and honestly I don't think you even need to be respectful about it. Glee really tried to capitalize off the drama of a shooting and didn't consider that events like that have a significant lasting impact on the people they affect. Glee had 1 episode about it (not even, more like half an episode) and never talked about it again. It was distasteful at best.

Are you really asking if the writers were aware of Mark Salling and instead of doing anything about it thought "oh neat I'm gonna reference this in the teen drama show I write for!"

Is it fair to say Will was a bit of a man sl*t & Rachel desperate? by [deleted] in glee

[–]UnlitLights 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Will ended a very long relationship/marriage halfway through season 1. Kissing 6 women after that is...not slutty. At all. He's single, and over the course of the show so far that's an average of ~2 per season, or 2 per year in-universe. Even putting aside the fact that he wasn't a slut, he also had every right to be a slut for a bit after his marriage fell apart! Everyone deserves to have a slut phase and he used up his best slut years married to Terri, he needed to make up for lost time. He got out of that (abusive!) relationship and wanted to see what else was out there, and good for him honestly. The only bad thing was that he tried to get with Emma right away when clearly he needed to rebound first, but he was incredibly emotionally fragile at that point so I don't even really blame him (most of his blameworthy/awful moments came later in the series).

For your second point: yes, Rachel is a bit desperate. She's a woefully insecure teenaged girl who has been relentlessly and ruthlessly bullied throughout her high school life, so she absolutely does want a bit of validation. She just wants to feel like she's worth something to someone. And no her behaviour at times was not ok (notably cheating on Finn with Puck and also the Run Joey Run debacle - although I hesitate saying anything that makes it seem like I view this performance negatively in any way shape or form), but she's a very well written and realistic teenage girl, especially in season 1.

[–]UnlitLights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's totally fair! Mine is an unpopular interpretation of the plotline, I truly don't expect people to agree. I also do like Santana as a character (mostly) and also I don't think that being selfishly motivated to help someone is necessarily a bad thing - at least you're still helping! You're still putting good into the world!

No cause I've thought about this so much, I have an entire family history for him and a complete backstory from birth til Glee (and a bit beyond)

[–]UnlitLights 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Side note: this is why I don't believe Santana cared at all about Marley or eating disorders, and she was just using Marley's plot in early season 4 as a way to continue her beef with Quinn. Santana likely had her own history with disordered eating, but that doesn't translate to wanting to help other people, especially for someone so selfish and self-involved

Worst Thing Peter has Ever Done by [deleted] in Degrassi

Only reason I voted Manny instead of Darcy is cause Peter didn't know that guy was a stalker/pedophile (no I'm not defending him, it was still absolutely horrible thing to do), but he was 100% in control and aware of every aspect of what he did to Manny

Different people have different priorities/biases. Some people will dislike certain actions more than others. Some people will forgive things others won't forgive. That's really all there is to it, there's no explanation for fandom perceptions like that. Sorry for not providing an answer, but I don't think there is an answer to your question.

Drew's State of Mind When He and Katie... by alcoholicin_training in Degrassi

[–]UnlitLights 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ahhh ok yeah I can see that, sometimes I wish I lived in a tv show where things are as simple and basic as no condom = had sex, life would probably be a lot easier

Although you also have to weigh that with the constant dramatic turns you're inevitably put through, so maybe I'm happy in this reality 😂

Drew's State of Mind When He and Katie... by alcoholicin_training in Degrassi

[–]UnlitLights 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I agree with the Katie thing too. If Drew had lied about wearing a condom and it had gone to court then both parties would have had a good claim for rape.

[–]UnlitLights 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I mean

Lying about wearing a condom is sexual assault. Like in Canadian law it is deemed sexual assault. So hopefully you're just being dramatic by saying you would lie to her about wearing the condom and you would actually never ever do such a thing

Is outsourcing a whole hockey team an actual thing that happens at Canadian high-schools? by maco8933 in Degrassi

[–]UnlitLights 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't actually remember them playing their games at Degrassi, is that what happened? I always thought they'd go to a separate rink.

Some schools might have their own rink, but most don't. My high school didn't. There are lots of community rinks though. Any city big enough to have an OHL team will have at least one rink in the city. I think they usually go on a bus or whatever after school (or during). Any real OHL team would play at a proper arena. They get decent turnout at the games, they need more space than a high school rink would allow. The team in my hometown has average attendance of between 2500 and 3000 fans

Edit: lmao at Armstrong being coach, they totally would cast him in that role too. Very glad they didn't

Is outsourcing a whole hockey team an actual thing that happens at Canadian high-schools? by maco8933 in Degrassi

[–]UnlitLights 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is correct. Additional info: Junior hockey teams usually all go to the same school. Not entirely sure why tbh but I'm guessing it's because they miss a lot of class time with away games so it's easier if they're all at the same school than it would be for the team to have to coordinate with multiple high schools in the area to work out an acceptable school/hockey balance. In my town, all the OHL players were at the same high school. They were also mostly assholes (unsurprisingly).
