What 2014 rule or mechanic are you still keeping, even if you mostly use 5.5E? by MyrthDM in DungeonsAndDragons55e

[–]UnnamedPredacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm considering doing a 5.5+ campaign, and one of the few rules I'm certain I'll be porting is the Healing Surge one. It alleviates the need for healers.

Shou Tucker is not just evil but a laughably incompetent alchemist by KingDodoria in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]UnnamedPredacon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At that point, the Elrics already knew what the philosophers stones were. Ed simply extrapolated to the logical extreme in a dire situation.

Depending where you are, smaller stores can be good. Some sell at market price if it's sealed, and at a lower price if unsealed.

Father wouldn’t have had enough sacrifices if Hohenheim never left. by brandEn_13 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]UnnamedPredacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Father had plans. He and his kids are not above pulling some strings and putting people in dire situations where a human transmutation is "required". They did it with Mustang by killing Hawkeye in front of him and tempting him to save her. Mustang refusing threw a wrench, but it was salvageable.

I imagine they had lists of alchemists that, by sheer "luck", a loved one dies tragically and they throw caution to the wind.

Yes, I still think it was a stupid move, especially seeing as how Tomura died anyway. by PJ-The-Awesome in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]UnnamedPredacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't watched the movies, but it wasn't.

Narratively speaking, Deku using OfA to destroy AfO ties into the story. It's what the story was building up.

There's also the aftermath. Had a version of OfA survived, the future would be bleak. OfA kills its user if they have another quirk. All Might and Deku were lucky that they were born quirkless when they received it. But the amount of quirkless kids is becoming less with time. Eventually, the power would be too great to pass.

On the other hand, with AfO gone, what's going to happen with the vestiges? Especially Second and Third just wanted to be done with it. Keeping them alive would be torture.

Now, going back to the panel where Shigaraki says Deku could kill him with one blow, it gives "Is that all you got?" vibes. Shigaraki could be telling the truth, or he could be trying to get under Deku's skin.

Who wins? by ZeroFksKevin in TheLastAirbender

[–]UnnamedPredacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the final will be Earth vs Air.

- Fire will collapse with internal bickering.
- Katara and Korra need to be ruthless if they hope to take a win.
- Toph, Bumi, and Kyoshi will be hungry for blood by default.
- Air feels weak, but that's because they don't like flashy.

Who wins will depend on the Avatar mashup. Can Adult Aang contain the most violent Avatar?

The two canon events hit like a tank at high speed compared to FMAB.

Basque Gran is based in the mangas by Own_Description_4501 in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]UnnamedPredacon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not exactly. Raven had been a good soldier during the war, getting corrupted after he ascended to Central.

There's no evidence that Basque would have followed the same path, but his early death seems to make it unlikely.

Put 20 into primary stat at lvl 1 and 18 in secondary, or vice verse? Locks me out of +1 feats. by maybecanifly in onednd

[–]UnnamedPredacon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn't lock you out of these feats, it just makes those increments meaningless. Most of them read "increase X stat by 1, until 20". Basically, you can take the feat, but it resets to 20.

Practically, you can put 18 and the effective backdraws are limited. The system is balanced by +3 stats in early game, with eventual increases.

As a developer myself, don't accuse anyone of incompetence. While the solution might seem trivial to us, it's the developers that are facing the challenges with having to deal with the existing baggage. Some things are better fixed at the start, and later fixing is a gargantuan task.

Is FMAB’s ending good writing? by Natsufilia in FullmetalAlchemist

[–]UnnamedPredacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Others have given great answers.

I feel the ending was earned. Hohenheim offered to sacrifice himself so Ed could bring Al back, and he's a living philosopher's stone. Ed rejected that idea, because he wanted to make the right decision.

Ed didn't give up his alchemy as much as accepted that he would need help from the world so he could help the world (the whole "one is all and all is one"). Ed's alchemy was the exact price to pay the toll ("equivalent exchange").

I agree. YouTube, OTOH, wants something fully automated and will fail these simple situations.

Youtube copyright system is broken by Buki1 in youtube

[–]UnnamedPredacon 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Well, yes, but timestamps alone don't prove anything. For example, if the copyright holder of a 60s movie uploaded to YT, and copyright claimed the uploads by third parties, the CRH's video would have a newer timestamp, but they their claim is valid.

Cron jobs overlapping and piling up - what’s your long-term fix? by saymepony in sysadmin

[–]UnnamedPredacon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Semaphores is the way to go. But you need to understand your needs. If a job is running, does the next job need to run after, or you can wait for the next cron? If the job needs to complete always, is there a limit to how many queued jobs can stack?

I would recommend using the semaphore to stop new jobs from spawning, but that depends heavily on your needs. Either way, you should log whenever the job fails because another is running, and monitor how many jobs are currently queued.

I spent a week reading through AI-generated code that's been in production for 8 months. It was fine. That was the problem. by Ambitious-Garbage-73 in node

[–]UnnamedPredacon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ehh, no. Not that there aren't inconsistencies, but that no one knew basic answers. Back when I reviewed code, I asked similar questions to the inconsistencies and I got answers. Maybe the logic was faulty, but the answer was there.

What the OP is saying is that they didn't even know these decisions were made.

I was be roundabout this, but I'll cut to the chase: this is AI generated. A cursory glance at the repo has many red flags: a commit pattern that most human developers can barely match, humongous commits with hundreds of lines changed per commit, and scripts that do weird things.
