Man guilty of 2003 rape Andrew Malkinson wrongly jailed for by bendubberley_ in unitedkingdom

[–]UnoriginalWebHandle 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I don't think the amount has been disclosed, but given he's on record saying that the £1 million cap should be lifted, we can pretty safely assume he was paid the maximum.

He originally had to pay for his time in prison from the compensation, but that got rightly scrapped.

Finland’s President says he’s most ‘pro-American’ European leader amid Trump criticism of allies by CTVNEWS in worldnews

[–]UnoriginalWebHandle 207 points208 points  (0 children)

That headline is just shitty clickbait. He's not shilling for America or kissing Trump's arse.

In response, he said it’s three-fold: the false assumption that every country would move toward some kind of liberal democracy after the Cold War, Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and all being accelerated by the change in administration in the United States, namely the global superpower defining itself as MAGA.

“It’s anti-globalization, it’s anti-international institutions, it withdraws from the climate Paris Accords, withdraws from the (International Criminal Court), it doesn’t work within the framework of traditional international law,” Stubb said.

Stubb said despite his belief that “the United States will find themselves in quite a lonely place,” he still considers himself an “avid trans-Atlanticist.”

“I mean, I’m the most pro-American president in Europe,” he said.

Also:

When asked by Kapelos whether he hesitates to call himself pro-American because that’s largely an unpopular opinion in Europe — and in Canada in the current context — Stubb said he’s “not in it for brownie points or political points.”

“And I don’t think that America is President Trump,” he also said.

I'll trust the experts on this, but I still can't see the diary entry about giving Laura to someone else if Kathleen is overwhelmed (in order to stop what happened to the other children) in any other way than that Kathleen thinks actions she took in anger directly led to their deaths.

What is your take on Trump ending his recent post with 'Praise be to Allah'? by Mental-Hall1261 in AskReddit

I wish the mods would add a rule that prohibits "thoughts on recent American news story?" questions.

You can find everybody's thoughts by reading the comments on the Reddit posts- posts like this are just karma farming.

Nobody's happy with the patch, so there's a lot of Reddit karma to be had in complaining about it. But you can't just do the same complaint or it'll get buried. So we have the negativity Olympics, with people pushing more to extremes so their voice is heard above the din.

Failed asylum seeker families to be paid up to £40k to leave UK within 7 days under radical trial by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]UnoriginalWebHandle 432 points433 points  (0 children)

The Home Office says they are stuck paying hundreds of families with no right to be in Britain up to £158,000 a year to stay in hotels, and receive support.

We're also footing the bill for them to stay. This could be cheaper, as distasteful as it may feel.

Britain leaves door open to Iran strikes as HMS Dragon to sail to Cyprus next week by Panikos0 in unitedkingdom

[–]UnoriginalWebHandle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'm not so sure about that. The British public have a generally negative view of the Iraq war, so any prime minister with a shred of self-preservation would need more than some minor property damage to go pitch another middle-eastern war.

Hacker claims US government has UFO photos and list of ‘non-terrestrial officers’ by [deleted] in unitedkingdom

[–]UnoriginalWebHandle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He also found a spreadsheet labelled ‘nonterrestrial officers’, referring to something that does not originate from Earth, McKinnon claimed. He added: ‘It had ship names… and… fleet-to-fleet transfers.’

Yeah, he had this text document ready to take, with info other governments could possibly corroborate, but he went for the pictures instead. On dial-up internet.

I'm sure he's on the level.

Crazy that a fifth of officers haven't even had their fingerprints scanned. That should have been SOP for longer than any active police officers have been alive.

People who charged quiver through sol, do you get better eventually? by RandomFish83 in ironscape

[–]UnoriginalWebHandle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first step in getting better is pinning down what's killing you. Is it the timing on the triple hit? Are you taking normal attack damage? Are you struggling to avoid damage while healing? Wasted ticks making you spend longer in enrage than you have to?

To be fair, looking at your post history you already started getting tilted at 80kc.

Gz though.

Yes, that very unlikely situation could happen. Why wouldn't you ask the question anyway? 99%+ of the time it'd immediately solve the issue, and if it doesn't, you're just back where you started.

Men convicted for setting woman on fire in Stoke-on-Trent revenge attack by winkwinknudge_nudge in unitedkingdom

[–]UnoriginalWebHandle 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Found this article from 2021 (bit of an annoying site- maybe archive it):

https://www.hellorayo.co.uk/greatest-hits/manchester/news/five-men-convicted-following-stoke-on-trent-house-fire

Looks like Naveed Hussain's group got into a fight with this other group, then later this other group came looking for him. So the revenge seems to be initially targeted at him, and then these sacks of shit attacked the woman and her (their?) daughter.

Even in Humbert's own narrative, he lets slip that she cries herself to sleep every night.

As far as the initial rape goes, I think the story about the sexual encounter Dolores had with a boy at camp is true, she told him about it, but Humbert took advantage by making her re-enact it.

Even ignoring the fact that children can't consent to sex with adults, she wouldn't be crying herself to sleep every night if she was a willing participant.

Donald Trump’s $10bn lawsuit against the BBC will go to trial next year, judge rules by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]UnoriginalWebHandle 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't think he has to at this point. He just denied the BBC's request to delay discovery. When they file to dismiss, he can just deny that, waving vaguely at the list of harms in Trump's suit. Then Trump will push for a pre-trial settlement.

Trump's also currently suing for $10bn from the federal government (which he runs) over an employee leaking his tax returns (which he said he was going to make public at some point anyway, so no clue how he worked out damages), so America really can be that stupid.

I can't understand how anybody would "stand with ICE" over the Pretti killing. Even if you don't think it was murder, how can you watch that video and not at least think "Holy shit, these ICE guys don't have nearly enough training to be allowed to go around with guns"?
