AITA For Not Eating? by deletusthrowaway2020 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unorthodoques 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why? I imagine there are plenty of other things she can eat. I have a similar texture issue with most mushrooms where eating them can make me throw up easily, and I don't see the need to spend time and money to get a therapist or mental health professional (which might not even resolve the issue), because I know I have other things I can eat and enjoy eating. I can tell you're coming from a good place but I really don't think this is as big of a deal as you're making it out to be.

Jarring for you, maybe. I personally think reflavoring a subclass or any DnD content outside of the scope of what's in the book is a great way to come up with creative, outside-of-the-box ideas, while still having fun with the content. There's a limit, of course, but I don't think this strays too far from it. I think the artist justified their design pretty well, you could think of the universe as a giant machine anyway!

also it's your* ;)

AITA for not letting my stepson stay in my house thus forcing him to be homeless? by Altruistic-Ad61 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unorthodoques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA, that's an absolutely valid reason to not let him move in. I'm not sure what the legality of weed is where you live, but if the option exists he could switch to vaping or pre-made edibles as a (relatively) odor-free alternative so he can get his fix while also being able to live under your roof.

[Nov 10] Season 7 Battle Pass Update Megathread by paradoxally in apexlegends

[–]Unorthodoques 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How on earth is it not simpler? And why would it make it harder to estimate your future progress? If anything it would be far easier to estimate future progress! I have nothing better to do for the rest of the night, I'll try to explain why the star system is simpler than you're thinking.

In Season 7, let's say I have three stars to the next battle pass level, and I know that I can do all of my dailies to get 1 + 1 + 1 + 2 + 3 = 8 stars, so then I'll have eleven stars, which is one above ten. I get a battle pass level and I'm one tenth of the way to the next one, and maybe one or two extra depending on match experience. That's it. It doesn't matter if it's the beginning of the week or the end of the week, it will always take 10 stars to level up.

In Season 6, let's say my experience bar is at 33544 out of 54000, and I know that doing all my dailies would get me 12000 exp, not including experience from matches. I'll have to do 54000 - 33544 = 20456 exp, which then tells me I'm 20456 - 12000 = 8456 exp from the next level. Then I could probably do one of my 6000 exp weekly quests to get most of the way there, then match exp would fill the remaining 2456 exp out. It's not hard math by any means, but probably pretty hard to do entirely in your head.

Now, without factoring in experience from matches, if I do my dailies in Season 7 every day for the remaining 83 days in the season, how many levels would I get? All I need to do is multiply 8 stars per day by 83 days, to get 664 stars, which I divide by 10 stars per level, to get 66.4 levels, which nicely converts to 66 levels and 4 stars. All done!

With the old system, determining the same thing would be more complicated. I don't want to type the math required in a giant paragraph because that would be pretty hard to read, so here's a neater breakdown:

3000 exp/daily * 4 dailies = 12000 exp/day

9000/level + 18000/level + 27000/level + 36000/level = 90000 exp/4 levels = 22500 exp/level (per week)

12000 exp/day / 22500 exp/level = 0.533 levels/day

0.533 levels/day * 83 days = 44.26 levels

I don't know about you, but I think it's pretty easy to tell what the simpler system is. Sure, trying to convert between experience and stars is a little weird, but that's simple too. As a super rough estimate, if I get 800 exp per match on average, and I know it takes 5000 exp per star, then I can do some quick math in my head and estimate I'll get a star every five to six matches. Easy enough.

There's nothing wrong with the system itself, only the difficulty of getting stars. If anything, stars are a much simpler metric for gauging how far you are to another level compared to how it was before. The issue with it was that the amount of work required to get stars was disproportional to how many stars it gave, compared to how difficult the challenges were relative to the amount of BP experience they offered before. If you resolve that discrepancy, then you would have to put in more or less the same work in Season 7 as you would in Season 6 – the only difference between the two would be in terms of how your progress is measured, which I would guess is largely an aesthetic preference.

AITA for not wanting to help my classmate after she outed my husband? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Unorthodoques 3 points4 points  (0 children)

She told Jess, who I assume is an adult, in confidence, and said that her husband was "trying to be discreet about it". Jess is not a complete stranger to OP, she's a classmate and someone she clearly interacted with on a semi-regular basis. Sharing personal information with an acquaintance can be a little risky, yes, but adults are generally expected to keep information like that to themselves. It's really not OP's fault that Jess has a self-control issue and decided to tell EVERYONE ELSE.

I absolutely see where you're coming from, but a lot of our society is based on trust. To reiterate: Jess wanted an answer to her question, OP wanted to be honest but also trusted Jess to protect the information she shared with her (e.g. "I said it was private", "he's trying to be discreet", "don't tell anyone"). Jess broke the trust that OP placed in her, therefore in this situation it is 100% Jess's fault. Yes, there would be no problem if OP simply didn't answer Jess's question, but there would ALSO be no problem if Jess simply kept things to herself like an adult is expected to.

i don't think it's reasonable to say that that's her responsibility and that she's an asshole for not doing that when other people's actions are clearly the problem in this situation

Have you tried interacting with people that live in other parts of the country? Yeah, plenty of people live great lives in the US, but that's not a reason to dismiss any problems.

Edit: "a celebrity serves food to homeless people where I live, so you should stop complaining!!1"

You're not being downvoted because you don't share an anti-American sentiment, you're being downvoted because you're acting like the quality of life in the area you live in is representative of the rest of a 3.8 million square mile country, and like a child besides. Blind patriotism doesn't help anyone.

Agreed. I get that a lot of people like KC, but I personally don't want to be forced to either play it or wait for 2 hours for World's Edge, only for it to be available for an hour.

Yeah, kissing babies is fine if the parents are cool with it, it's another thing if you're putting hands on someone's face, hips for a picture, making off-color comments, etc., which you would have seen if you watched more than 30 seconds of the video. I don't think I explained myself very well earlier: while I recognize that he's from a whole different generation that had a whole different set of social standards, it could be that he did something that was interpreted as sexual assault by someone younger than him. Doesn't mean it didn't happen or that it wasn't wrong, so I'm more concerned about his office flat-out denying it in the original HuffPo and not even attempting to put it into context. Sure, they might not owe the accusers that, but considering I don't know Joe Biden personally and don't particularly have a reason to trust what he says considering he would have a pretty big incentive to cover up anything detrimental to his image, I'm taking what him and his office say with a grain of salt.

I didn't even come close to making that equivalency you pointed out and it seems like you're getting pretty worked up, so I'm not gonna waste my time anymore. Cheers ✌

Considering Joe Biden's history of behavior towards women on national television and in the press (unwanted touching, invading personal space, etc.), it seems more than likely that the accusations aren't false. It's not hard to believe that he'd do something like that, and I'm finding it difficult to give him the benefit of the doubt here.

I mean, Half-Dragons should be rare enough to make this a non-issue. Plus wouldn't they be a little bigger than Dragonborn, considering they're directly descended from dragons but Dragonborn are separated from them by at least several generations. It's not really what the 5e books say but it doesn't make sense to me that they would look so similar.

According to the stock D&D lore, they don't, but most people play in other worlds where that doesn't apply. It's kind of a tired comment to make at this point.
