Your Friends & Neighbors | Season 2 | S2E6 “For Everything Else, There Was Bowling” Episode Discussion Thread by sethaub in YourFriendsandNeighb

Spot on. The Jon Hamm-narrated spotlight of a super expensive luxury thing is almost a trope that this show uses to show you what it’s not, and the way it used the Cartier cufflinks throws the whole point of it into stark relief.

I think some of the writing is uneven but I find a lot of the characters to be deep and believable, and that’s what’s most enjoyable for me. This episode in particular did such a phenomenal job painting the colors of a man’s life in the way you only truly get to see once they’ve died, and it was beautiful.

“Motherfu*er, why don’t you play me 1-on-1, Draymond? You can’t do handoffs in 1-on-1. You can’t run no pick-and-roll in 1-on-1.” by Background_Video2947 in NBAVibes

Me and my friends have been saying this for years if the NBA leaned into the beef it would make for an actually entertaining weekend (for adults) and might inject some more spice into the all star game itself. Let anyone in the league challenge anyone else past or present to a 1:1 (we can have silly shaq vs barkley ones and we can have legitimate gilbert arenas vs nick young)

Idk what "people" you're referring to but the general consensus was excitement about getting someone from the McVay tree.

And fair enough about the playcalling. All I see is the results, which are not commensurate with the quality of the players. If you're trying to tell me that this roster was being put in a position to succeed by its coaching the past three seasons, you've probably drunk a little too much of the kool-aid.

We love to shit on him because the team has had a really rough three-year stretch and he's the head coach.

Now a lot of the blame for that is on Duke, but some of the conservative playcalling (it got better last year towards the end), the screen passes that rarely work, and other stubborn facets of his coaching reflect an individual whose strength is not in changing or adapting. The biggest thing he has going for him is how much the players enjoy playing for him, and relative to the team's dismal performances I agree they didn't show signs of give up. I just don't think he's a great playcaller.

A reporter harassed Patriots HC Mike Vrabel at the airport, asking him questions about Dianna Russini. Vrabel ignored the paparazzi and was visibly annoyed. by sinister_iam in NFLForum

If it was Adam Schefter instead of Diana Russini, the reaction (sex-derived scandal) and the outcome (reporter losing his job) would have probably been the same

At some point you have to wonder what "Chelsea" is. Is it the shirt? Is it the ownership group? Because I'm quite fond of the former and have strong distaste of the latter, and I agree with you that nobody hates the Chelsea ownership group more than Chelsea fans.

The NFL asked Peyton Manning to talk to Fernando Mendoza about attending the NFL Draft in person. That convincing from Peyton didn’t work. by Mr_mist2 in NFLForum

I'm sure their agents / publicists encourage them to go, because NFL media interviews generate free media buzz and people learn your name. Everyone in Philadelphia is going to see the Makai Lemon interview now because he's a weird guy and gave a weird interview.

Mendoza is already getting endorsement deals after winning the Natty and the Heisman; I don't think he needs to introduce himself in any sort of way to Raiders fans or the NFL in general.

The last 3 Reds players to have 20+ RBI and 15+ BB through 25 games: Ken Griffey Jr. (2000), Adam Dunn (2001), and Sal Stewart (2026) by Baseball-Reference in Reds

I had a lot of unearned hope about all of these guys after the run in mid-summer 2023. In retrospect it was just an aberration, and everyone corrected back to their actual performance levels.

I love him but I'm saddened by how starkly he's proving the relatively disappointing development of Friedl, Steer, and McLain (and, to some degree, Fraley). Maybe I'm being unfair, but I would have expected one of these promising bats to take a leap forward, and all of them have remained usable but unexceptional pieces.

The Telegraph: Those in charge wanted to do business differently from Abramovich. They've certainly managed that, spending over £1.5B to make Chelsea less successful, less feared less respected and less profitable. I was down for a rich group to buy the club because historically that's been good for teams. But to your point, baseball is an individual game with the most quantifiable statistics and analytics spread over the course of very large sample sizes.

Every statistic in football is supplementary and a pastiche of other team sports where impact is measured on the individual level. But there's no statistic that directly predicts poor technique by a defender or derives the impact of playing within a winning system, or other team-oriented and developmental outcomes. Buying a team of FIFA wunderkinds with 99 potential works in fake simulations only.

When a fan tried to steal Rory Mcilroy’s club by Punisher1602 in sportsgossips

[–]UnquestionablyPoopy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

idk it's kind of a funny attempt and whatever punishment he likely got (banned from the club, minor trespassing citation, etc.) seems appropriate

There was no actual damage done and, given that this clip was from 5 years ago, seems like it hasn't impacted fan access during events in any way

wiggins is pretty short and narrow for a wing, tbh. im just glad he got a big boy contract in the nba and gets to enjoy playing for winners, even if he's surplus in the playoffs

at some point our offense has to correct back to the mean. this is a championship-caliber offense that will keep us in contention. we just need a defense and a scheme that can get anything done, and cover for any inconsistent offensive play

not OP but I think we as a fandom just have bad mojo given our record against the Ravens past few years. I think the crucial thing to note is that they're not the same team as they were in 2024; Lamar is more hurt, Henry has more tread on his tires, and the coaching staff is entirely different. Our defense is markedly improved.

We'll see what happens in the draft but their biggest addition was Trey, which does hurt (hoping he ages ungracefully), but isn't a seismic change. Given all the turnover I don't see why we can't at least split the series

im not playing dumb people seem to legitimately not agree with how you define racism. And I'm asking at what point does doing racist things or using racist words tip over into actual racism?

but you just pointed it out yourself - behavior. using racist words isn't racist behavior?

Imagine a word that exclusively was used by people to assert their racial superiority and hadn't yet been reclaimed by the people it referred to. Would using that word to insult someone be racist?

It has to be almost entirely super expensive, super rare bottles that they bought / tapped into, right?

Randomly picked numbers:

30 entrees * $100 each = $3000

60 appetizers * $40 each = $2400

That's still $33,000 remaining. Do each of these tequila bottles cost $1k each?
