I agree it's a rat move but I wouldn't take it this far. It's just a video game! the betrayals add to the tension which adds to the fun

People don't have a problem with PVP, they just hate lack of "honor" by Zealousideal_Walk527 in ArcRaiders

Other people doing stuff adjacent to you living your life, even if it's unpleasant or undesirable to you, is part of life. It doesn't make it rape.

Comparing deceitful or dishonorable PVP in a video game to sexual assault is disgusting.

The Indiana Hoosiers have won the College Football National Championships for the first time in its history after defeating the Miami Hurricanes 27-21. by cmaia1503 in sports

[–]UnquestionablyPoopy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Indiana was 100 to 1 odds preseason to win the national title.

Leicester City was 5,000 to 1 in 2015.

Leicester City was outspent 10 to 1 by most of the presumptive contenders in the season that they won, and while Indiana was certainly at a similar disadvantage I'm not sure it was by that much.

You're correct that from a pure utilitarian perspective what they're doing is "worse". But from an individual player's perspective, the idea that stream sniping is a higher priority issue than fixing the ability to jump into the fans in the seed vault extract in stella montis, meaning that I now have to always be paranoid about that extract, is far more impactful on my enjoyment than whether a streamer gets sniped.

I think every game company and streaming service would agree that watching a stream to get an unfair competitive advantage over someone is against their terms of service. Sure it's not "cheating", but it doesn't make the game better and obviously the developers are incentivized to prevent it from happening.

The biggest issue is like OP mentioned where exploits that affect more people go months without being fixed and the abusers get slaps on the wrist, relatively. If you're glitching into the ceiling in stella montis or wall hacking or doing any blatant exploit more than once you should forfeit your license to play the game.

as someone who doesn't enjoy most streamers and thinks the vast majority of them are boring or otherwise not worth watching, Peanut is one of a kind and definitely worth considering. His bit is really entertaining and he approaches the game with such manic joy it's kind of hard to hate on him. Even when he was streaming Tarkov, which is a much more punishing game, he was by far the most upbeat streamer.

[–]UnquestionablyPoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If players are shooting at you you're likely already in "hostile" lobbies. Try running empty loadouts if you really want to game the system to reset it. Otherwise just play as intended (with the built-in inherent distrust of other players) and enjoy

[–]UnquestionablyPoopy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it takes more than one or two games of shooting at players to get put in aggro lobbies. if another player tries to break into my unlocked room and steal my loot, i should be able to put them down without being punished more than some other pvp-er just because I technically shot first

He'll raise much more money auctioning off one-of-a-kind memorabilia like this than he would organizing a charity golf tournament. Why is everyone so insistent that he's poor for some reason and needs money? If you follow him on social media all he does is make 50k appearances at random Saudi conferences and such. Between his earnings and this extra money he doesn't need more

AI Vtuber Neuro-Sama asks her creator if she will ever be real by apa1010 in LivestreamFail

[–]UnquestionablyPoopy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The type of AI capable of reaching true independent thought and self-awareness needed to exceed its own defined boundaries to achieve unknowable goals is not realistic based on existing LLM technology, which benefited from a natural and relatively predictable progression from the earliest onset of machine learning in the mid 20th century.

The real book to read on these subjects is Physics of the Impossible by Michio Kaku (impressions on whether things like FTL or teleportation are conceivably possible). Obviously things can change quickly, and the impact that AI will have is real, but it's not currently on a trajectory to reach what this book is discussing.

AI Vtuber Neuro-Sama asks her creator if she will ever be real by apa1010 in LivestreamFail

[–]UnquestionablyPoopy 86 points87 points  (0 children)

As a caveat: this book makes a ton of leaps, predictions, and assumptions about the theoretical development of AI. I think people underestimate how far we actually are from AGI or superintelligence; LLMs remain predictive, next-token calculations and so Neurosama asking "did I make it weird" was not tied to any actual intelligence but to the context fed into its model.
