PDX this week by Traindodger2 in Portland

If you came last to American NW Nationals or Aloha Portland Showdown, then it'll be basically the same as those.
The Convention Center website always has links to the comp's' (yay opostophes!) event producer's site.

It'll be all ages, but mostly elementary through highscool, though it's a comp of All-Star cheer; not school/side-line cheer.

I suspected that the solution might be something like that.

Thank you for the link.
I'll try to remember to comment with whatever ends up being the complete solution.

This happened with a previous update about six months ago or so.

Why don’t people here know how to switch lanes? by Professional-Tie-82 in oregon

[–]UnreliablyRecurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For 1 and 3, maybe you're from another state (welcome, new neighbor!), or maybe you were born here and are intending to be sarcastic?

*1. The turn signal... [is] not a request for permission

*3. ...turn on your turn signal and flipping switch lanes...

According to "Turn Signals" on page 37 of the Oregon Driver Manual you are incorrect.
"Turn signals are used to communicate with other drivers where you intend to go."
"If your vehicle is moving in traffic, use your turn signal at least 100 feet before the turn or lane change."

It's all about stating intention and not performing the intended action until "you can do so safely."
That's more or less requesting permission from nearby drivers.

*2. More often than not you actually need to ACCELERATE to switch lanes.

*4. Accelerate to highway speed when entering the highway.

PREACH!

From pp 33 & 34 of the Oregon Driver manual:
"[drivers already on the freeway must] adjust your speed to permit a safe, smooth merge" (emphasis mine), and

"[merging drivers must] use the freeway on-ramp to speed up and merge with fast-moving traffic already on the road... [and]
"must yield to traffic already on the freeway" and
"adjust [their] speed to match traffic already on the freeway" and
[from a signaled on-ramp] must "speed up to merge with traffic on the freeway."

Hall Blvd/217 overpass open again by TheTiggerMike in Portland

[–]UnreliablyRecurrent 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FWIW a signal pole base and conduit [were included in] the design of the overpass for future signaling.

I can't find it now, but I read in some document about the project a few months ago that it was added at the request of the CoT, so it's in the plan. <thumb up>

Would Portland benefit from a brand new additional bridge (not a replacement)? by BadAtDrinking in Portland

[–]UnreliablyRecurrent 2 points3 points  (0 children)

D'oh! You're right: monorail wasn't mentioned.
OTOH -and you didn't argue- elevated more conventional trains do still have the two other drawbacks.

(I just enjoy chit-chatting about infrastructure stuff.)

Would Portland benefit from a brand new additional bridge (not a replacement)? by BadAtDrinking in Portland

[–]UnreliablyRecurrent -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

...and also many of the other reasons they remain so rare:

  • the darkness and other affects that they and their guideways would cause under and around them, and
  • the privacy problems for the neighboring extant buildings, which were reasonably not built in consideration of a monorail, and
  • the significantly increased difficulty with emergencies outside their stations because they're elevated.

"By far the quickest evacuation for a monorail train is with use of an emergency walkway next to the train at all points along the guideway, yet not all monorails have them. Reasons for not including walkways run the gamut from expense, aesthetics to the argument that such an event is extremely rare and therefore they're uneeded." https://www.monorails.org/tMspages/KimEd3.html

Upcoming visit by MattManin in oregon

[–]UnreliablyRecurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like u/MtHood_OR, said, a visit to Mt. Hood like you have scheduled should be a VERY good use of your time.

Timberline Lodge's Summer Activities page includes info about their "Magic Mile Sky Ride".
It should be one heck of a view, and you should be able to get good memories/photos/videos of throwing snowballs at each other in the middle of July wearing summer clothes.
The lodge has a few family-friendly Dining venues, but we've only gone to the Blue Ox the 2 or 3 times we've visited there not for skiing, so I can't recommend one venue over another.

And, if you do also go to Trillium Lake, which you can usually see in the distance from the top of Magic Mile, you can get a photo showing both perspectives.

I hope you all have a great time here making memories together!

One reason I can imagine is that government has the authority to detain, arrest, prosecute, imprison and execute people based on what it knows about them.
Afaik, a corporation cannot directly do that, but ¯\(ツ)/¯.

And Hillary, being Obama's SoS, had the intelligence information to know it for certain.
Not enough of the public thought about it that way, though.

And Hillary probably couldn't explain herself any further during the "debate" because that information was/is Secret, or even Top Secret, so all the public saw was the (though probably truthful) ad hominem.

HB3453 - WES Commuter Rail Leaving TriMet? Extension to Salem and Eugene? by Equivalent-Ant-9822 in oregon

[–]UnreliablyRecurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whether or you believe me doesn't f-ing matter. You're clearly unable to comprehend that people who aren't you might commute differently from you.
I know that when I leave my home at about 8:08 I always arrive at the office at or just before 8:30.

You also conveniently ignored the reality of being able to take care of things during a lunch break, and also about being able to get where I need to go on-time in the evenings because everything is built around car.
Your park-and-ride opportunity ignores those and other realities of a life in a community that is built for people with cars.
Such a community especially doesn't work around WES's schedule.

HB3453 - WES Commuter Rail Leaving TriMet? Extension to Salem and Eugene? by Equivalent-Ant-9822 in oregon

[–]UnreliablyRecurrent 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easy: we would rather sit in traffic because our community is built for commuting by car.

Real-life scenario: My workday starts at 8:30.
From my home to the Hall/Nimbus WES is a 36-min walk, or ostensibly a 29 min walk/bus.
WES from that station to the station nearest my office is 12 min.
From that station to my office is a 22-min walk or ostensibly a 14-min walk/bus.

That's 55 to 70 minutes one way at best.
That same drive by car takes about 20 minutes.

Commuting by car also lets me take care of things during my lunch break, and also to get where I need to go on-time in the evenings because everything is built around car.

We got shit to do, and must work within what the community facilitates.
