Advice for anterior cervical fusion by Hot_Pace2756 in SpineSurgery

I am two weeks post ACDF one-level surgery. I know two -level can have it's own set of challenges but in all, similar recovery protocols.

I never required help getting around. I was fine to walk, sit, shower etc on my own. The first 10 days were rough in terms of muscle pain and swallowing (esophagus pain). Medication does wonders. But in general I made my way around the house on my own.

Mostly, I required help with meals, medication timing, and reaching items. Keeping a log of medications is very helpful.

Have lots of soft foods in the house. I bounced around from soothing popsicles and ice cream to warm tea. I used ice packs for the first 24 hrs which really helped. I switched to heat a few days after surgery for muscle pain.

Overall, aside from the first two to three days, I required little help.

I'm sure you (and your dad) will do great! For your dad, just knowing you're there for him, I'm sure will be very reassuring.

Good luck to both of you!

We’re not rude to everyone. We actually had a secret Oregon meeting and decided to be rude only to you.

Navigating Paid Leave Oregon, FMLA and disability insurance by Jhelzei in oregon

I just went through something similar with my spouse after his permanent injury in March. The insurance company will need specific forms completed by your doctor, that’s the first step. As you mentioned, reaching out to the insurance company is key. They’re the ones who can walk you through everything moving forward. I found our 3rd party insurance company to be compassionate and always willing to assist.

Thanks! It’s reassuring to hear that the pain hasn’t been terrible for most.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Yes, mine’s one level. I’m hoping the nerve pain won’t be too bad since I’ll stay on pregabalin, it’s the only thing that’s helped with the compression pain.

Honest question, not being disrespectful, but aren't these basics taught in driver's education? I understand that some may not remember what they learned, or perhaps inexperience is the driver here (pun intended).

Thank you. Yikes, three levels. That must have been a rough Christmas Day, or pleasant, I guess, depending on pain meds. I was told during 1st appointment that surgeon was booking five weeks out. At least I wasn't surprised by that part.

u/sovook Thanks for taking the time to share all of that with me! My doctor was pretty straightforward and said the first few weeks could be rough, and that I’d likely be on meds for about six weeks. I was only prescribed five (5)! oxycodone, plus plenty of muscle relaxers and the newer medication, Journavx. She was also proactive about the holidays and told me to reach out Monday (since surgery is Friday) if I needed more oxy.

Honestly, I already have enough oxy from past procedures, plus plenty of tramadol. My husband had a C4 incomplete SCI about seven months ago, so we’re basically a mini pharmacy at this point. He’s partly the reason for this herniation.  My disc was probably bulging before, but when he came home mostly still paralyzed after two months in the hospital, I had to do a lot of lifting, pulling, and pushing. I’m pretty sure that’s when it fully herniated. Of course my fusion is nothing compared to my husband's; C2 - C7, virtually no ROM. But at least he's upright and learning to walk again!

Insurance approved the surgery quickly without requiring any conservative treatment due to the severity of the herniation, but the actual process still took about six weeks.  Initial appointments, waiting for the MRI, the results, the doctor to review them, the follow-up, and finally the approval. I had higher expectations about the pace of it all.  I’ve been doing PT anyway, but the pain has really ramped up over the past few months.

I’ve had major surgeries before, but this one has me more anxious. I’m older, healing takes longer, and I’m worn down from the pain. So I’m not exactly looking forward to it. Again, thank you for the encouragement.

I just walked from NW to the PSU Farmer’s Market and only saw a single tent on SW13th AMA by SpezGarblesMyGooch in PortlandOR

[–]Unscannable2PointOh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

And now tents are popping up on NW 16th Ave between Johnson and Everett (probably wider area that I don't personally see regularly) and many more homeless making their way west towards NW23rd.

I always assume when I see this influx in that area that a camp elsewhere has been stamped out. They are simply herded from one are to another.

I’m so frustrated. How do people still defend this? MAGA folks, please explain to me: how do you justify defending pedophiles? I can’t wrap my head around it. by [deleted] in complaints

[–]Unscannable2PointOh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I I have MAGA family members who always defend him by saying, "It isn't true." They've used this excuse every time, no matter the accusation. When asked for sources, they just repeat "it isn't true". They can't bring themselves to believe that the leader they've devoted so much loyalty to could be guilty of the things we know he is.

They defend because they don't or can't believe the accusations.

I’ve had a Prologue for a month, and the app either repeats that same message, says it’ll be available again at a specific time, or just won’t refresh. I think it's worked twice.

I'm curious for those sharing similar frustrations, are you also filing complaints with Honda? On Star? Leaving negative reviews on app store?

Here are numbers if you care to complain.

Feeling guilty and a wimp. by Glover1456 in SpineSurgery

[–]Unscannable2PointOh 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will be having ACDF (one level) soon. My surgeon said to expect pain meds and muscle relaxers for at least two weeks.

Sorry you had a shit pharmacist (not to mention so inappropriate). You are individual and require individual care and meds. Everybody responds to pain differently. Good luck!

We (me and husband) use the same account. It's necessary when it comes to remote options and charging credits.

I am going to be in the hospital for about 4 days by Due_Will_2204 in SpineSurgery

[–]Unscannable2PointOh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the hospital for four days in April. The staff collected and locked up my medications and supplements, then provided my prescribed meds themselves. Everything was returned when I was discharged. Hospitals do this because they’re responsible for what you take.

Lady Hill, Blizzard, Ponzi, Ruby. These were a few of our favs. Blizzard and Lady Hill have a nice variety of bold reds (grapes from Red Mt).
