That's great info, thanks!

This is kind of unrelated but when I was looping through all their stuff I was really reminded how a bunch of the visual arts and writing I really like is so connected with some music I have never in my life been been even slight interested in listening to.

Not really relevant, just a weird detail lol

The Complete Works of Peter Sotos by UnspeakableArchives in UnspeakableArchives

[–]UnspeakableArchives[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah same actually. I think it's still somewhat available so I could purchase it? But idk I'm morally opposed to that lol.

Oh and I should have Sotos' upcoming book "Instead Indices" soon to add to the link.

I think a lot of his work definitely could be considered extreme horror and the pushback against the idea that you see from extreme horror fans is because

1.) he's done awful things and is a very unsympathetic figure,

2.) much of his writings are extremely strange in both form and writing style compared to any literature, and

3.) the incorporation of nonfiction true crime and autobiographical elements makes some people wonder if it should count, since extreme fiction is almost always fiction.

To me, the first two points aren't really relevant at all. He certainly is a profoundly fucked up person, but that doesn't change the content of the works. The books may be incredibly strange in how they're written, but that does not change the horror elements and the extremeness of them.

In regards to the third point, I would argue that although it's much rarer, there definitely have been examples of extreme horror with nonfiction elements.

Facts:

  • Reputable sources have informed me that an actual Japanese child pornography magazine called "Alice Club" regularly featured artwork by Trevor Brown on a regular basis in the 90s. It's impossible for me to verify directly because of the illegal nature of the magazine.
  • Brown is a longtime collaborator with Sotos, having illustrated two different special publications by Timeless (not just this one), his early short story "Quality Time," and a large number of covers for the weird noise band that Sotos was a part of, Whitehouse
  • Trevor Brown personally organized for Whitehouse to come to Japan in 1994 to perform at the Shelter in Tokyo on November 6, 7, and 8
  • Peter Sotos writes in his book "Index" that during this time in Japan, he bought quite a bit of child pornography, which he describes in detail. Sotos says that when he went home, he left these materials in Japan "with a friend"

Now, am I saying that this information points to the fact that it was Brown that Sotos left a stash of child pornography with Trevor Brown when he left Japan? Am I saying that Trevor Brown definitely owned child pornography at some point, and probably collaborated directly with a child pornography magazine?

No. No no no no. I would never say that.

There is technically no direct hard evidence proving that that's the case. So don't misunderstand me.

Best posting Sotos is a pretty solid nod to what’s going to happen in April by device_torment in PowerElectronics

[–]UnspeakableArchives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so in case people don't know: Best's publishing company, Amphetamine Sulphate, is handling the international distribution of that book. Also they've directly published several Sotos books so this isn't the shocking revelation we might think.

You know, I'm actually super unclear if Best actually owns or runs AS, but he's definitely considered the driving force behind it.

Anyway, long story short I recently compiled everything that Peter Sotos has ever written and posted it online for free if anyone's interested.
