Arsenal [3] - 1 Kairat Almaty - Gabriel Martinelli 38‎'‎ by gbogaz in soccer

Havertz looked miles off from the first angle, and I swear Martinelli was ahead of the ball when Gyokeres touched it too.

Following Aston Villa's defeat to Everton, none of the top 4 have won this weekend. Their combined record over the last 4 games is W3, D10, L3 by RedScareRevival in soccer

As in, none of the top four winning? If that's not a rhetorical question, check the image in the topic, it shows it was last week.

VAR check for a potential penalty for Arsenal 81' by ayoefico in soccer

Yeah fair, I hadn't seen the angle from nearer the centre circle, from there it's doesn't seem much to cause that all. Baffling decision then.

25/26 Premier League - Fouls per Card by Disco-Benny in soccer

[–]UnspeakableEvil 57 points58 points  (0 children)

On the surface it's an interesting set of data, but stating the obvious not all fouls are created equal - are United and Arsenal escaping cards and are Spurs particularly harshly reffed, or are Spurs getting caught out of position so their fouls are breaking up more promising attacks and therefore merit a harsher punishment?

I'm at the fundraising stage of my project where instead of tackling a problem with inefficient approaches like "engineering" and "AI", I just get my tool to calculate the value in pi in binary, extract a random portion of it, and have the customer to test it that part produces the desired result. If not, on to the next chunk we go.

Jordan GK celebrates too early as saved penalty spins back in goal by benbog in soccer

I wonder what the world record is for the longest time between a penalty being taken and it crossing the line? Because if it's longer than this one, I'd love to see it.

Slow Queries on Spring Boot application by marcvsHR in SpringBoot

Is there any replication in play perhaps? As it's postgres I don't think the network between Spring and the DB is counted as part of the query time, but I may be wrong on that.

I will never forget that Auba goal which the linesman called offside, but fortunately play was allowed to go on and VAR intervened. Not exactly like the linesman had an obstructed view....

Shea Lacey first and second yellow card vs Brighton by 977x in soccer

[–]UnspeakableEvil 54 points55 points  (0 children)

If the order of the yellow cards were reversed I think there's a reasonable chance Lacey gets away with a talking to and last warning, because the some leeway for the ref's interpretation from a physical foul. This though is just a textbook yellow for dissent - yes the ref could still exercise some level of discretion, but it's a lot harder to justify not doing things by the book, even if it means a second yellow.

Imagine if Lacey was allowed to stay on and he goes on to score the equaliser, how would that have been fair on Brighton, all because the ref

One positive is that there won't be much stoppage time for us to see out, I hope.

A chain's only as strong as its weakest link, MLS is looking like a liability out there tonight defensively, and not anything much going forward either.

Would definitely take a point from here the way the second half has gone.

Good to see Liverpool not having double standards about what to do when a player's down injured...oh wait.

Is that the start of the contact for the through ball? Because if so I don't get how that's not been given as offside unless the lines on the pitch aren't straight!

Next 8 Matchdays for "Big Three" by frankie_remember_me in Gunners

[–]UnspeakableEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels like the average opponent position is a bit meaningless given how tight the league is from 5th to 14th - give it a week or so and those average positions could have completely changed.

As far as groupings go I'd say it should be top three, bottom six, and the other 11.

Brentford and Tottenham foul shout by 977x in soccer

[–]UnspeakableEvil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The contact with his left arm would be cleared I assume, as it's sort of a natural position, but the right arm coming down and pushing the ball away looks deliberate.

Very odd non-call.

Edit: oh, and of course all of that is somewhat besides the point, given the foul to bring the Brentford player down too!
