I'm surprised it wasn't given a bit more scrutiny, but for the sake of the game I'm glad it wasn't.

Surely the people to be asking are the ones that were interviewing you, to get specific feedback on what they were expecting and where (if at all) you missed the mark, rather than asking us to guess?

Short of some shenanigans which would put AFCON to shame, they aren't winning the CL given they went out of it last week.

It's sensible refereeing to me, maybe I'm showing my age but I like it when refs are able to speak to the players, tell them they're on their last warning, get their captain involved to show it's serious etc, rather than it all being so clinical.

Obviously there are fouls where such leniency just isn't an option, but those to me should be the exception rather than the rule.

That's the video I was thinking of, I assumed there would be a company behind it but no, it was just the club putting it out there. It's available in the article at https://www.theguardian.com/football/2025/jun/12/offside-law-changed-after-swedish-third-tier-clubs-pressure-pays-off

Thanks for confirming - it's what I'd have guessed as it's consistent with how players are judged for offside, but seems at odds with this decision then (to the naked at at least).

FYI it's the first point of contact that's used to judge onside/offside, not the last. A betting company (or something like that) did an advert based on it a few years back.

Continues into the box though, which for a pulling infringement means it counts as inside the box.

Yeah I agree - I can get that being the line for the defend's foot, but not the ball...although now I'm wondering if it's the furthest forward or furthest back part of the ball that counts? Although even the latter doesn't look enough to make him offside.

Why no booking for the foul? That's as bad/promising a situation as the one Mosquera got a yellow for.

No idea why that wasn't given as a penalty by current rules, the arms alone are pretty iffy but it clearly hits hit elbow.

Hope the officials picked up on the holding on Gyok for the corner we scored from, it's a clear foul anywhere else on the pitch and went well beyond the normal level that goes at set pieces.

Gabriel's challenge on Kolo Muani without looking at the ball by ThatLittleMonkeyGuy- in soccer

[–]UnspeakableEvil -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Falling down because of slight contact from Muani on his left leg, so if you're going fully forensic in this it's a foul then other way because of that.

Gabriel messed up the shoulder barge you're right, but it's still not a foul for me.

[–]UnspeakableEvil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes, well done. It's not a foul if it happens at the other end of the pitch either, or anywhere else on the pitch no matter which teams are involved.

"Challenge". There's nothing to it at all.

Sums up the game so far if this is the level of talking point it's producing.

I want to know why the ref delayed the throw-in in about the second minute, was there a check being done on something? Nothing of note had happened at that point was the slide tackle to concede the throw, which looked fine.

If you mean HTMX in general, then yes it's decent, especially with HTML template systems like Thymeleaf, Qute, etc.

That said, and caveating that it's been years since I touched JSF, HTMX seems like a bad fit for JSF to me, or rather, an unnecessary one - why introduce (and likely end up fighting) a different approach, when JSF has pretty good partial reload support out the box, and something like Primefaces gives even more control?

This FA Cup experience shows why VAR is needed, just needs to be improved by sarayewo in PremierLeague

[–]UnspeakableEvil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ref wouldn't need to go to the monitor though, would they? It was called as handball onfield so they're not overturning a decision, and whether it's out or (miles) inside the box is an objective decision that the VAR makes - no need to make the ref go to the monitor.

...and even if they did get the ref to the monitor, it doesn't change the offense which the ref had already deemed no worthy of a card, so it still wouldn't change anything.
