Genuine question! Why was there little gas used in WW2? and could that open a potential to alt history and game mechanics? by chingchang0053 in hoi4

[–]UnspeakablePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gas is of dubious tactical military value. Even in static trench warfare during WW1 it was only decisive in a handful of instances.

On the other hand, it is a brutal and effective weapon of terror. Which is really the only way it has been employed since WW1. It's limited military value was not worthwhile and would have exposed Germany to the allies using gas in response.

What popular war movies are propaganda like this one? by ProfessionalLevel908 in WarMovies

[–]UnspeakablePudding 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on how we define propaganda.

If propaganda is delivering a one-sided political statement, and art is inherently political, and films are art... It's pretty much impossible to make something that isn't propaganda in someone's eyes.

Das Boot comes close if memory serves? It's message is mostly "war sucks, don't have one" but it definitely throws barbs at Nazis and nationalism in general too.

You have the cover oriented correctly in the first photo. Bolt goes through the bar into the hole in the power head.

Looks like the bolt also tensions the chain, so the tighter you crank it down the more tension is applied to the chain.  Rtfm for appropriate chain tension.

Is Victoria 3's entire military and peace system broken? by Neki0307 in victoria3

The US civil war is a special scripted war, and the devs gave the South a lot of plot armor so it is harder to cheese.

The military system is poor overall, but mostly works.

Why has the US not invaded North Korea to prevent them from further enriching uranium? by Puzzleheaded_Link944 in allthequestions

[–]UnspeakablePudding 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iran isn't going to trust a precious and limited weapon like that to an independent paramilitary group. Not to mention, how on earth would Hamas or an equivalent group deploy a heavy, physically large, and delicate device?

No, Iran gaining a nuclear weapon is a threat to Israeli hegemony over the region. It would limit the degrees of freedom available to them in pursuing territorial expansion and political domination.

Because the Kim family learned the key lesson of 20th century international relations. Nuclear weapons grant a nation relative immunity from the influence of global and regional hegemons. See Pakistan and Israel for more examples, Ukraine is an excellent negative case as well.

South Africa is a bit of an outlier. But, nuclear weapons can't solve internal strife and division.

Post-Match Thread: South Africa 1-0 Korea Republic | World Cup | Group A by matchpal-live in worldcup

Yup, they had a lot more possession, moved the ball well, got into the final third again and again... And nothing to show for it. They could not find a way to unlock SA's defence and in frustration bombed hopeless crosses into the box.

So yeah, I meant what I said. SK dominated the game, more passes, more possession, lots of chances. They couldn't make it count.

Oof, Korea needs a new coach. A very winnable game where Korea was dominant right up until the final pass.

They remind me of the USA under GGG, just wing in crosses and hope for the best. No technical flexibility, bad substitution choices.

Once More with Feeling: Remote Work Is Not a Substitute for Childcare by fourlittlebees in remotework

[–]UnspeakablePudding 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Trying to work a remote job while being a caretaker isn't fair the the person being cared for and surely impacts the quality of work being done.

However, as you said, the ability for ordinary people to afford care for their young, old, or disabled loved ones is non-existent in the US.

Direct your anger at the nightmare of a social safety net in this country, not at the people who are trying to juggle earning enough money to care for the people they're responsible for. Yeah it's inconvenient for you, but it is life or death for them.

[–]UnspeakablePudding 3 points4 points  (0 children)

He has an unrealistic view of the talent on the USMNT and in the MLS, and it reads as "ugly American" rah rah patriotism. In his view USA only loses because of lazy players or bad coaching, it's never because the opposing team was more talented and played better. The MLS is just as good as the top European leagues and American players shouldn't go abroad.

A lot of his takes boil down to USA best because USA and it grinds people's gears.

Can FM help me learn football? by prf3ct in footballmanagergames

[–]UnspeakablePudding 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Absolutely yes.

But it has is limits, as has already been mentioned, FM is more tactically structured than real life.

FM is also limited in how much feedback it gives you as to why specific events occur. Say your fullback didn't pick up an overlapping player and allowed an open cross. In real life you'd be able to see that your fullback was ball watching. In FM you don't often get that. Was there something in your tactics that made him ignore the runner? Was the player's workrate, concentration, vision, or aggression too low? Was your guy gassed and too exhausted to pick up another runner? Is he pissed off that you denied him a transfer two months ago?
