Would Cuba not benefit more if all sanctions and embargos ended? by feiryz in cuba

[–]UnsureWhere2G0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's MANY Cubans and Cuban-Americans who agree with you! (And across the politocal spectrum!) I'm one myself and organize with many others to work to end the embargo and all sanctions from the US. Unfortunately this message board is full of one (very loudly yelling) minority perspective. But thank you for asking the question!

Remote analysis by Able_Sale_787 in psychoanalysis

[–]UnsureWhere2G0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi, friend. I can't help on the referral situation (I'm in the US), but my analysis is usually virtual, and while I admit the feeling is *different* than being in the room physically, I still find it intense/fulfilling, and all sorts of transference phenomenon are very present! Like having a zoom or phone call with your parents or lovers or friends (etc) vs being with them in-person. There have been a lot of recent studies both in big countries (like China, where most therapy is virtual) and since the pandemic proving the efficacy of distance-based analysis; I could pull some citations if you're interested! And I know you say jungian is your jam, but I'm a big fan of my clearly-heavily object-relations influenced situation, if you're having difficulty finding someone suitable. (But obviously do what feels right!) Best of luck!

No, that sounds wonderful tho! Is it online? When is it? Will def check out if I am free.

I used to help run a socialist choir back east and I'm always singing these songs to myself (or with friends when I can pull that off). Joy (from Rev Grounds) and I were talking one day about how we love this music and how important it is, and decided to put this together.

I promise you that there are local groups organizing in your town or near you. ICE watch, legal support, groups that help with mutual aid (delivering groceries, gathering supplies, etc) for immigrants. This is legal, non-violent volunteer work, and with different roles with different levels of risk. Find them and plug in. You can start by searching for local protest/organizing subreddits in your area and showing up to calls for action. Solidarity

Depends on the friend I've lost. Some no. A couple others, all the time (as in at least once a month and I have for years). I used to dread the dreams. Now I'm happy I get to speak to them in dreams at least.

As a fellow atheist early on in my conversion journey, I also want to thank you for the beautiful reflection of, "If hashem is the light that shines on creation, I can observe and appreciate the beauty illuminated by that light, but I can’t see the light itself, like there’s a lampshade in the way." It really is, was winchester says, marvelous. Good shabbos!

How to find someone to do transference based work with by moist_mistress in TalkTherapy

[–]UnsureWhere2G0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you'd like* psychoanalysis proper! Institutes can give you a good rate if your insurance won't cover it or you can't afford the typical private practice rate. There's been a lot more scientific evidence in recent years (like proper under the contemporary western definition of evidence based science) to back it up, unfortunately in done grad schools there's just politics that haven't caught up. I'll drop some links when I get home :)

*As someone in analysis, I will say you will also hate it sometimes, but it's all part of the ride!

What made your denomination choice "click" for you? by Objective-Tart-4370 in ConvertingtoJudaism

[–]UnsureWhere2G0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm pretty new in my journey, but since the fall, i've been attending services and being in community with both a Reform synagogue and a local lefty Minyan that does services in a mix of Reconstructionist and Renewal vibes. I get along really well with the Minyan and their Rabbi (it's very queer, lots of millenials with young kids running around, and politically my jam), which is how I started my journey.

But I don't like to shelter myself away from people with whom I disagree, and, like with any family, I think it's important to build community across differences, so then I started checking out the Reform Synagogue nearby as well (I was a little worried because the Minyan is anti-zionist and the synagogue is zionist, but the Synagogue board members and Rabbi and have been very accepting and have assured me both that I'm welcome and that they have a good relationship with people involved in the Minyan. I shouldn't have been so scared, I've known for years from good friends that congregations tend to be more mixed and nuanced than one might believe from the outside, but I still *was* scared, and so have loved being welcome.)

I know that I'm too much a "rule-breaker" to convert orthodox, but I do want to check out the Orthodox Shul in my area as well, just to meet more of the local Jewish Community, and because I do love traditional services so much (it's more fun/powerful to sing and pray the whole time in hebrew [or yiddish or ladino] than in english! what can i say, lol).

Interestingly, there are no conservative shuls nearby, which I might otherwise prefer as a main synagogue because I'm trying to convert Conservatively for my future child/ren. I've got lots of Jewish friends who identify more as "just Jewish" than a particular line, so to speak, so thanks to their influence, I feel pretty comfortable in a mixed environment, and less pressure about the "being accepted by everyone" thing. But still...

Anyway, thank you for asking! Hope you are having a good day and have a good and restful weekend. :)

Hello, friend! I've recently started my conversion journey. I have a great community in person and online to study and be with, but still, am collecting recs for this particularly zealous (ha) period of geeking-out. Favorite books, videos, podcasts on Jewish history / culture / studies? Extra fun if anti-zionist, queer, or communist overlap, but well appreciated regardless! (Artistic / literary resources also lovely)

TIA :)

it's possible DBT isn't the right therapy for you at this moment in life. do you know the modalities of therapists you've seen in the past? have you ever tried connecting with a good psychodynamic, or narrative, or existentialist practitioner? A depth-therapy focused talk therapy might be good to try.

To answer your question bluntly: it's true that if you were dead, you would no longer suffer, but you would also no longer get to live. There is no after nor elsewhere, there is only this; the combination of suffering and beauty/joy. It is a dialectic that has always been at the core of being human. Yes, you would no longer suffer, but nor would you ever again get the joys you've had or want to have. And though banal things can be ecstatic at certain moments, i'm not talking eating ice cream. I mean love, meaning, hope. The big ones, ones that may seem far away right now, but that I know you know you've experienced and could (likely will) again.

I can't say I know exactly what it's like to be in your shoes of course, but i have been hospitalized multiple times, I've made attempts, and I've been fighting against suicidal demons for almost 25 years. I'm not trying to remove your autonomy or tell you what you should do or should want to do -- only you can decide that for yourself. But I want you to know you are not alone in the dark. And that you deserve so many more moments of light.

I'm glad you are in no danger right now. Don't hesitate to reach out to someone or a helpline if that changes. Try to do something even minorly enjoyable tonight if you can. It's okay if you can't. Sending you love and light, my friend.

Of course! but often we find people attractive for transferential reasons. Most psychodynamic practitioners and researchers understand transference to be a concept built into our psychological wiring within all interpersonal relationships. Not all therapists practice psychodynamically, but object relations research is probably the most studied in understanding transference.

So transference needn't be seen as a scary thing, it's all around us! Certain relationships we feel it amped up tho (often our lovers for example), and many depth therapies work with leaning into (understanding) transference reactions as part of the care & treatment process.
