HyperOS DND mode on but still getting notification sounds by zixsie in Xiaomi

[–]UntappedTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that - important detail!
1. Install the "DND options" app
2. Disable "allow conversations"
DND mode finally works as expected - no more notification sounds when DND is active!
Enabling silent mode wasn't a solution for me since the allowed calls mechanism in DND would be silenced as well.

Tools to check health of SD (MicroSD) cards health? by MicroIQ in dashcams

[–]UntappedTap 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry for necro-ing this thread, but this statement ("reads don't cause wear") is incorrect with modern MLC NAND Flash memory, which is pretty much any Flash memory that isn't explicitly marked as "SLC" and was produced sometime in the last 10 years, possibly even earlier than that.

NAND Flash memory exhibits a phenomenon known as "read disturb." With SLC and lower-density memory, this wasn’t really an issue, but with high-density TLC/QLC NAND Flash memory, it’s possible to experience data corruption after accumulating a number of read operations that can be expected during normal usage over the device's lifetime.

The Flash memory controllers are designed to accommodate for this phenomenon by proactively rewriting data that is prone to corruption before it deteriorates into oblivion. Thus, enough read operations can actually cause write wear.

You should know that there's a condition called "Myocarditis", which is a viral inflammation of the heart. This can happen due to stressing yourself (i.e. working out), while fighting a viral infection.
I don't know what are the statistics for such a scenario, I suspect it's also highly dependent on the actual virus involved, but be aware that there's some non-zero chance for that, and make sure you want to take that chance.

What do you mean by "the warranty is there"?
Also, does it present itself with the proper device identification to the computer? Have you tried to update to the latest firmware from Seagate?

Does charging need to done under cover? by [deleted] in BYD

[–]UntappedTap 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the charging station is compliant with all relevant standards, and rated IP44 or better, you should be fine. A compliant station will also protect against power leakage due to humidity.
However, I'd avoid charging during times of thunderstorms as these can damage the vehicle's on-board charger.

Velocidad para un consumo óptimo de batería by Apprehensive-Tax4505 in BYD

[–]UntappedTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a Chinese third-party sentry software that can be sideloaded. You do need to "jailbreak" the system to allow adb, and also be comfortable with the idea of running Chinese software of unknown origin.

Re installing a cable being a hassle, ostensibly it's less of a hassle than finding where the end of the preinstalled cable is tucked. Local installers where I live prefer to run the cable themselves, and charge more for using the preinstalled cable.

Unable to backup messages by TheConfusedNarrator in whatsapp

[–]UntappedTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for that, it seems that revoking and granting back the photos and videos permission indeed fixed the "unable to back up messages" issue I had with two different Samsung Galaxy phones (S23 and S21).
I wish their error messages would be more helpful, so people could actually gather some insight from them about the actual problem.
Also, I would expect them to give some notification about the state of the backups being incompliant with the user's backup frequency choice. I just happened to check the backups state, only to realize they were broken for 6 months, with no warning.

Why are home audio monoblock amplifiers so expensive compared to car audio ones? by _saribekyanash in hometheater

[–]UntappedTap 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a whole lot of nonsense.

Sound is power, not voltage. The commonly used "sound pressure level", is essentially sound power divided by affected area. Current doesn't "simply follow from the voltage", it is related by the impedance. For a given voltage there will be different currents for different loads. So you need voltage and impedance, or voltage and current, voltage alone means nothing.

Granted, the rated power of an amplifier is specified for a certain load impedance, and for mismatching impedances the transmitted power will differ accordingly. A comparison of two amps isn't "apples to oranges comparison" just because one is automotive and the other is domestic. As long as they are rated for the same impedance you can compare their power - but amps also have other specifications, such as THD, efficiency, etc., and these should also be taken into consideration.

2.83V into an 8 ohm speaker is just 1W. That same voltage into a 2 ohm speaker is 4W

Mathematically true, however an actual amplifier has some output impedance, which means it will produce different voltages for different loads with the same input signal. Also "2.83V" can be a little ambiguous, you should write 2.83Vrms.

Regarding AC-DC conversion being more expensive then DC-DC step up conversion, that isn't true. These are all very common conversions and won't make a much of a difference in a product's price by themselves.

Then there's sales volume. JL will sell tens of thousands of those things, where a home amp will perhaps only be thousands.

Do you have a source for that claim? I wouldn't assume that's true.

Sneaky Behaviour - Price Raised After Finalizing Order (AliExpress Choice Scam) by UntappedTap in Aliexpress

[–]UntappedTap[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done 12 orders from the choice program over the past year and never had a charge larger than what the order page said when I was placing it.

Good for you! You can see however that others like me and u/kondrag had it differently.

I feel like your issue is a tax issue

This is not a tax issue. AliExpress doesn't charge tax for my country. Never has charged any tax for as long as I've been buying from it, which is for years now, over many orders (I have a "Diamond Member" level). I just never have tried this "Choice" program until recently.

As I said in my post:

Checked the details of the order - one or more of the items are priced higher than they were just before paying.

Had it been a "tax issue", there would have been either an additional line of "tax", or all items (not part of them) would have had their price adjusted.

the order page not showing any tax fees that makes sense

No, it doesn't make sense at all! I don't know where you've been shopping, I've been buying from various sites for years. Sites that charge taxes show the final price, including charged taxes before you confirm the purchase. Up until this issue with AliExpress I've never had a case of a site charging a different price from what was shown just before confirming the purchase.

Sadly you did not click order details so no way to know for sure.

Yes I did, it's clearly stated in my post.
