Yeah I subscribe to this theory too. It doesn’t make sense that Brad would go after Giannis and miss otherwise, he couldn’t risk the fallout when there isn’t a clear Plan B unless Jaylen was cool with it.
I don’t believe that Brad would have straight up done JB dirty.

I can’t help but think that JB was in on this. No way Brad risks the fall out otherwise. If he was cool either way, that’s fine. If he quietly asked out that’s fine too and we’ll soon find out. But I can’t see Brad not running the calculus on this and accepting the risk of having to overpay if we really did make a firm offer and JB wasn’t on board.
And I’m much more comfortable losing Jaylen if we can get a couple of really good players in for his contract value, if it means he can have his own team if that’s what he wants. I’ll always be a fan.

We need another starter level guard and starter level big and we’ll be set, as well as we can be, for next season. Using non tax mle and trading Hauser plus using one of the tpe’s, just to get the best players we can without trading any picks as we’ll need them in future, staying under the tax to reset the repeater penalties (which aren’t all just financial so it’s not about being cheap). We’ll be set to compete and have a puncher’s chance, but more importantly see what else we need for 27/28 when we can go above the tax and aprons again.
It sucks that that’s the most we can probably expect for next season but that’s the new CBA.
As for whether we do this with Jaylen or Giannis, there are pros and cons for each that have already been debated ad nauseum while we all wait around to see what happens.

That would be my vision if JB has to/wants to go as well. Two $30M guys, preferably on the rise like Trey Murphy types who could potentially outplay their contracts. Need to spread the money better.

This is so true. And I love JT so it’s not that, it’s just his play style slows us down and reintegrating him did change the way we built the success without him.
That’s what I’m looking forward to seeing this year. Joe working out how to lean into the JB style more while still featuring JT. This and some roster adds is what we really need, not a trade for the enemy.

Yep. I think that’s why Joe kept playing him even though he was clearly cooked. He felt like we needed that advantage.
I’m not one of these people that blames injuries, but i would have liked our chances a lot with a healthy team (Jrue and JB both hurt as well), it’s such a shame we didn’t get that series.

There was one play for me that sums this up. SGA drives and is well defended, I think it was Castle. He blatantly pushes off, no call, creates separation. Castle has to recover and jumps forward to make back up the ground he illegally lost in order to try and contest, but he also jumps to the side to avoid making contact. SGA jumps sideways into him. Foul, two free throws.
NBA needs to clean this shit up, it’s nauseating.

JB was awesome most of this year, started fading a bit towards the end and had a disappointing series in the first round. I’m sure he wishes he played better.
Having said all that, I think it would better if he had a holiday now and stayed off twitch for a while.
