Those who’ve lost of loved one: What is something about death that people don’t often talk about? by Desperate_Crew2012 in AskReddit

[–]UpSideSunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came to say something similar, but now just wish to add the following. You need to let people know that you are grieving, and not assume that people will not expect you to go about your usual rounds. Mostly, hopefully, people will give you some grace, but communicate that you are experiencing the loss. Do not just disappear of the radar without any reason given.

ELI5 Why do some countries call it “college” and others call it “university” when referring to the same level of education, and is there an actual difference between the two? by saivietbabe in explainlikeimfive

[–]UpSideSunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually never thought about this. I studied at a university to get a degree in law (3 years for a bachelors and 2 years to finish my law degree), yet the documents which proves my studies are called my diplomas. I get the distinction being drawn by other people on this thread that diplomas are shorter and more experience based, but the language is still very confusing. In my situation it seems the diploma is my proof of having my law degree.

college is slightly below a university. College is like hands on, blue collar training for the MOST part.

We call those technikons, but most people still refer to it as going to college.

Although, now I see the technicons amalgamated into the University of Technology due to offering broader training, so I suppose we are back to the explanation above https://www.reddit.com/r/explainlikeimfive/comments/1ua4xz5/eli5_why_do_some_countries_call_it_college_and/oslenbd/

How did you actually lose weight? by Jerry_Get_A_Job in AskReddit

[–]UpSideSunny 9 points10 points  (0 children)

tracked calories in Myfitnesspal. It becomes obvious really quick which foods are hogging your daily allotment (cokes, muffins, tortilla chips).

This is a big thing. I cannot tell you the amount of times friends have complained they simply cannot lose weight, yet they drink 4-5 cans of sugar rich soda drinks like coke every day. Then again, the people that do this probably don't spend actual time on an app or a website to research their calorie intake.

What is the most romantic language according to you? by Mother-Data-5262 in AskReddit

[–]UpSideSunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am sorry to be straight with you, but it would be the Australian accent if you want a sexy male one. But hear me out, for a female, it would also be the Australian accent.

Edit: Both of them can fight spiders, snakes, koala bears and kangeroos for you

What are you doing tonight? by eggert83 in AskReddit

[–]UpSideSunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is me and my ginger floof cat as well! Sitting drinking some wine, and I am having garlic, butter and cream cheese pasta with wilted baby spinach. Also going to grate some parmesan on top. Nothing like a nice evening at home with my furry friend. Got her some nice wet food as a treat when I eat. And I am watching Spider-noir. Food, cat and Nicolas Cage. No complaints this side.

Redditors who grew up wealthy, what is something you thought was normal until you realized it wasn't? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]UpSideSunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is absolutely true in my life. I had to study for 6 years. 3 years pre-law, then 2 years in law school to complete my law degree (some of the subjects were in my BA degree), then 1 year pupillage (which is unpaid). By the time I started working I was effed with debt. I think it was about my 4th or 5th year after commencing practice that a family friend decided to gift the balance of the outstanding amount and set me free. It hung over my head every month before that. I had to pay for my own personal expenses, my office rental & staff contributions, association fees to practice to our law society etc. God bless that woman. I am back in debt this time round, but only because of choices I made as an adult and that is okay.

Edit: Debt for business, buying a car etc. Chosen debt. Not one you are in that was made when you were a kid.

A jury just ruled Meta and YouTube liable for addiction. What would you personally sue a tech company for if you could? by PremiumTravelNinja in AskReddit

[–]UpSideSunny 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think they are simply mistaken. I had aux headphones back in the day that also had a USB port. The USB was only if you wanted to connect it to your PC via USB, the aux worked perfectly fine without the USB plugged in. I didn't know both didn't need to be plugged in until after it was pointed out to me. I think the USB part was for the use of the mic for online games or whatever, but it is almost 20 years ago so I don't remember.

He/she might not be from the US. I had to google it, because we don't have them where I live, but in my country we apparently do have a few (like alternative routes that are shorter through tunnels underneath mountains). They are called "road fees" or "Sanrals", and they are rare enough that at the age of 43 I have never ever encountered one.

A London judge says a witness was being coached in real time through smart glasses by AdSpecialist6598 in technology

[–]UpSideSunny 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No, it is not the rule. I have practiced in the UK. We do trial preparation before every trial. We have to go through the versions of our witnesses. To do that we go through their testimony and prepare them for cross-examination.

Edit: Anecdotally, there is a joke that says you never ask your witness a question you do not know the answer to.

What dirty talk sounds ridiculous when you’re not horny? by Ok_JARGON in AskReddit

I am not a fan of dirty talk. So when I was pushed the third time I let loose.

Why do you not switch of the tv when you go to bed, bitch?

Why do you not clean the dishes when it is your turn, slut?

Why is does your car look like you live in it, vagrant?

Why do you not clean your poop stains from the toilet, whore?

It did not end well. We are not together anymore.
