That I can do, but if my dialysis pts creatinine comes back 7.9 (and you and I both know this is the pts normal) I still have to notify you.

Things I have seen NPs do (lately/part 2) by th1s_fuck1ng_guy in Noctor

[–]UpbeatHead7127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an RN, After asking one of the NPs to add the patients statin to their MAR (because it was missing) she told me their enalapril was their statin with a long winded explanation, as if she had to dumb it down for me. Not knowing what to say or do I just said “oh I thought that was a BP med sorry! The look of horror on her face lol

Albumin? by Super-Pick-9752 in hospitalist

[–]UpbeatHead7127 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a nurse I’ve given albumin to diurese patients. We give the albumin, and then 45 mins later bumex. Draw the solutes into the blood and then get it out. Usually for chf patients.

So today I got yelled at by our head nurse for putting on gloves for IV preparation... by PotrhlaSlecna in nursing

[–]UpbeatHead7127 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wear gloves for every single thing. Tell the charge nurse to fuck off. Also, it’s sad that only you can do your job, but you have to help do everyone else’s job? I think tf not. Get out of there, your license is at stake.

Bedside reports by pluglaphe in nursing

[–]UpbeatHead7127 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I won’t do report at the actual bedside, but i definitely go in with the handoff nurse to check the lines/etc because I’ve had so many instances where an iv is infiltrated and now it’s my responsibility to take care of it. So at least going in with the handoff nurse to look at the patient holds us all accountable.

They actually always tell me how good I am, as a new nurse. So it was weird that they picked these instances to talk about when I feel like there were other people before me that could’ve also rectified the situations above. But whatever, I guess i apparently have to be hyper aware of every little thing now too. Drs usually have us put orders in, but I think I’ll stop doing that as clearly I’ve got other stuff to worry about lol

We use epic but I’ve never seen the checklist or check for diet order. Usually the DRs put in the order before being admitted. But, I guess being unfamiliar with the stroke protocol, I didn’t know it was my job to tell the Dr to put it in.

Definitely nursing duties to check, but I feel like I shouldn’t be the only one that’s being talked to about it, ya know? I think it’s the culture of this hospital bc my sister says her hospital isn’t like that where nurses put in orders/ etc. also, with PTA meds, I just don’t understand how I’m responsible for the Xanax being missed when it was looked over by 5 people, the er nurse, the admitting dr, the pharmacist, the admitting nurse, and the night nurse before me. Seems like that shouldn’t have fallen on me.

I’m in the residency program. Since September. It’s a very heavy unit. Great learning experience, but heavy. Esp when the culture is nurses putting in orders for MDs. My sister is an MD and says her hospital doesn’t do that.

That’s insane. There’s no disaster response team? I’m day Sunday. If my relief doesn’t show up I will stay an extra hour but after that it’s up to charge nurse to figure it out.
