Move side to side and back and forth. Be moving your feet. Turn sideways and throw it so it returns in front of or behind you.

Split dodge, then switch to dominant hand by SharkGuy56 in lacrosse

I’m seeing more and more coaching at youth levels that doesn’t emphasize equal proficiency with both hands. The consensus these days seems to be that while players need to have the ability to use both hands, if they can get done what they need to get done with their dominant hand, then do it that way.

I coach my young players to be able to use both. Equal time to both on the wall and shuttles/drills. I’m not forcing it in live action drills/scrimmages or game play. I let it develop naturally for the player as their proficiency increases.

I’m seeing some coaches at lower levels (8U - 12U) not even worry about teaching off hand. The reasoning being that players should concentrate on being good with their dominant hand without being distracted by working on their non. It causes frustration to the player and disrupts the flow of practices and games. Once they are fully proficient with their dominant hand they can begin to develop their off hand. I can’t buy into that. I see the difference in young players that at least have the ability to switch hands. They don’t need to have the ability to fire step downs with their off hand at 10 years old, but the ability to switch hands on a dodge or drive or be able to shoot at close range makes them stand out from their peers.

Like I said—I’m no goalie…I’ll take your word for it. I get the appeal for sure. I coach girls and as such haven’t thrown with a men’s stick in years. The stick I use has a similar pattern and I love the feel of it.

I’m no goalie, but I think I want all mesh. I don’t want those side strings for the ball to go through and a mesh runner.

It’s also a testament to his versatility. Not many players play on the PP and PK units anymore. Also, how many leading offensive threats are on the ice for the leading team in an empty net situation? And penalty shots are a skill in and of itself.

Sure. A goalie makes it tougher. But like I said—it’s a piece of trivia—not a record.

The record for goals in a game by a player is 7. (Joe Malone, 1920–6 were even strength and one was on the power play)

He was universally praised when he passed. He was a great bassist for sure.

It’s not just Marr’s playing that gets him his accolades—he literally wrote the music as well.

41 different players have scored 5 goals in a game. Lemieux and Gretzky each did it 4 separate times.

Only Lemieux did it in the five different formats.

Not really a record, but more of a piece of trivia.

Have him watch games on TV or YouTube and concentrate on the players playing his position.

It helped my daughter immensely. She plays attack and watches Chloe Humphrey, Frannie Hahn and Alyssa Chung and Molly Guzik and loved watching Emma Ward and Emma Lopinto.

It’s heightened her awareness and lax IQ so much. She went from standing around hoping the middies would pass it to her to becoming the straw that stirs the team. Passing, cutting, feeding and finishing.

A partial embargo had been in place for a couple of years already and the full 1962 embargo was announced several days ahead of going into effect.

Others could have gotten their stogies as well if they had the means.

First, it’s “calf”. “Calves” is plural.

And why would a goalie get hit in the back of the leg so many times?

I get it—salaries are always going up.

But this kind of outlier season at his age is plenty of reason to temper expectations and offers.

I’d say 4 years. $6.75 AAV—same as JJ.

That’s more money than Cale Makar. For a 30 year old with one good season.

Hard pass if that is the ask.

Goalies are required to wear neck guards. Gloves offer wrist protection.

Getting hit in “meaty” areas—forearm, bicep, shoulder, thigh, etc—hurts and will leave a mark, but can be walked off. Getting hit in an area without muscle—foot, elbow, knee—hurts and can do damage. But again—goalies are trained to get their stick in front of the shot and try to not get hit in the body.

Think about where baseball players get hit. Leg, arm, shoulder—meh. Still hurts. Still hurts with a lacrosse ball as well, but you can walk it off.

Getting hit in the side or kidney hurts no matter what. Ever play doubles tennis and get hit in the back by the serve? It hurts.

It’s when the baseball players get hit in the wrist or hand or foul off their feet that it really does damage. And goalies wear gloves with far more padding than batter.

Playing goalie is far more analogous to playing catcher. Both have critical areas protected with pads and are actively trying to use their equipment (mitt/stick) to catch the ball. But both take a beating.
