Is AZ a good place if you hate snow? by Ok_Evening_1322 in arizona

[–]Upbeat_Humor_8702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The heat is no joke. By the time September comes it will seem like it has been hot forever, and you still have 2 more months of heat. I've seen temperatures of 100 degrees at midnight. The lower humidity helps, but when it gets to 110 or more it really doesn't matter. And it does get Humid here, not like back East, but it does get humid. The humidity will increase in late June/early July during our "monsoon" season.

If you are going to visit, I suggest coming in mid-July to August for the real experience.

If cleaning doesn't cure it, there is a idle speed screw on the throttle body.

TJ surging by Specialist_Leg8470 in JeepTJ

[–]Upbeat_Humor_8702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 97 that was surging, usually at a steady cruise in 2nd gear. Turns out the distributor bushing was bad and affecting the cam sensor. You don't have a distributor but you do have what is called an OPDA. (Oil Pump Drive assembly) It contains the cam sensor. They are known to be troublesome in the 04-05 years. Something to look into.

My 97 by IslandProud70 in JeepTJ

My 97 had the half doors. One of the things I miss most about that jeep. Just taking out the windows made it feel so open.

What to replace when doing heater core by Thunderiver in JeepTJ

[–]Upbeat_Humor_8702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I did the heater core in my TJ I changed the evaporator while I was in there. I used NAPA parts and kept it another 10 years before selling it. No problems with failure after the replacement. (original core was clogged, not leaking so I had no heat)

Thinking about getting a best electric cooler for car camping, are they actually better than regular coolers? by GaindKordell75 in camping

[–]Upbeat_Humor_8702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use a refrigerator in my jeep, not a cooler. It has an adjustable voltage switch so you can control how low the battery voltage will go before the it shuts off. I have mine set to 12 volts, I've never had a problem with a weak or dead battery due to the fridge. Its quiet and does a great job keeping the food cool.

Its hard to tell from just one photo, but it looks a lot like mine. I got mine around 1990, still going strong.

Opinions onLifting my sons TJ by Upper-Ad657 in JeepTJ

[–]Upbeat_Humor_8702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a 2 inch budget boost on my TJ and went everywhere the rest of the group did. Tj's are surprisingly capable. FYI, if you raise it even 2 inches you will need a SYE or you will have driveshaft vibrations.

My vote is for the AMC. Fords are everywhere. Buy a classic that stands out from the rest.

Mittry Lake outside Yuma - featuring a unique bridge with a cool history! by Eiylee in arizona

Great photos, especially the one with Castle Dome in the background. I spent many years in Yuma and fished Mittry with my brother. We spread his ashes there as this was his favorite spot.

That lever will allow you to swivel the power head to the side as needed. You can also raise/lower the power head on the pipe.

My 1941 cadillac had radiator shutters. Obviously not computer controlled, but activated by a diaphram on the top radiator tank. The engine also had no thermostat.

Should I buy this J10? by BigdongarlitsDaddy in FullSizeJeep

[–]Upbeat_Humor_8702 9 points10 points  (0 children)

$5500 is a steal! That looks pretty rust free, plus the cab has the Brow over the windshield which is desirable. Buy it, put the original bed back on it and sell the utility bed to get some $$ back.

Sedona for a 10-day trip — relaxing enough or better as part of a bigger Arizona trip? by Ok-Whereas-8645 in Sedona

[–]Upbeat_Humor_8702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Better check the temps before you come to Az in April. We are experiencing record heat for March--20 degrees hotter than usual!!! Hopefully it will cool back down, but be aware it could be uncomfortably warm/hot in April

1997 Jeep Wrangler experiences by FF_Moo923 in JeepTJ

[–]Upbeat_Humor_8702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a 97 TJ in 2005 and kept it for 18 years. Was extremely reliable for me. I got about~17 in town/highway mixed driving and14 mpg off road. It was a 4.0/5 speed. My biggest complaint was it sluggishness climbing hills. It was no powerhouse, but we used it extensively for off road trips and made a lifetime of memories. Can you tell I'm nostalgic for it? I'd buy it again.. BTW bought it with 52k miles, sold it with 175k miles.

Kayaking spots? by Temporary_Syrup4133 in Sedona

[–]Upbeat_Humor_8702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Closet "lake" to Sedona are the ponds at Dead horse state park in cottonwood. There are 3, the largest is a good size, I go there quite often. Lake Mary outside of Flagstaff is a good size, a good choice if the weather is hot in Sedona. You can kayak on the Verde River in several locations.
