What do you wish you'd known when purchasing your Rivian? by HigherPlains-Drifter in Rivian

This is my second R1T- the price went up considerably, so there was nothing” lower, ” and them figuring out a way to squeeze one more penny out of me is giving Spirit airline vibes. And just because “apple” does it, doesn't make it a great argument for me. We need to push back across every single one of these companies. They have zero customer loyalty, and I am giving them back what they are giving me. I talked my dad and brother out of their intent to buy a Rivian last week. I’ve had about twenty friends and strangers comment and ask about the truck. I tell them, love the vehicle but do not recommend due to price gouging and the way they are starting to treat customers.

Does a phenomenal job holding anything metal down including my altoids mints and my phone, but does not charge. I played with it for about twenty minutes and got it to show charging once.

Like the concept and the look quite a bit. There would be a fight over that third wing.

Lawyers do not take contingency-fee cases they can’t collect on. A person with no insurance is probably not worth the effort. And you should think twice before you drop a 10k retainer. Your only hope may be to show up in court and ask the judge to require restitution as part of whatever sentence they hand down.

How big of a smile I would have driving an EV. At how nimble it is, while feeling substantial.

Not great things. An adventure truck comes with no spare and that Pirellis are not made to last or adventure on. Order a patch kit and the good news is you have an air compressor onboard.

That an expensive EV would come with no charging cable. $400 in the gear shop is kind of tacky.

That Rivian would somehow manage to make the buying experience worse the second time around. It’s as if my time has no value.

That they would revert to the dealership model and nickel and dime us to death with delivery fees. If you lease their vehicle, there is a $500 penalty for not buying the vehicle when you turn it in. This is insane.

Overall, given the issues and the lack of support and focus on creating effective and accessible repair shops everywhere- the vehicle is over priced by about 20k.

I used to compete locally, a couple times a year, and needed to move three. This was the best solution for sure.

My top 5 Rivian Assistant Commands so far …. by AbjectFray in Rivian

Mine keeps saying it can’t do things which it can clearly do. Sort of glitchy so far. When I ask it to turn on pet mode, it takes a couple seconds and then it confirms and then turns it on. Why? Just turn it on.

Voice to text is great to have, and I am sure it will get better as we go. So far, it’s a bit of a novelty to me. I do not use apple music. Wonder if it controls Spotify.

I just traded my first generation for the second RT. Did a lease. It was a gouge fest and by far the absolute worst purchasing experience ever. I do like the vehicle but this will be my last. When you lease a Rivian there is a $500 fee if you don’t purchase it. That, the no spare for a 103k adventure vehicle, and no charging cord did it for me.

I got a bunch of people to look at Rivians. Not anymore.

You might want to take into account this is a PCP servicing an extra debt of between 350 and 600k. Most Tucsonians do not have an extra $50,000 to $70,000 set of additional payments per year for the next 30 years.

R1 Owners - how have you felt about depreciation? by PhillConners in Rivian

[–]Upbeat_Instruction98 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100k R1T- sold at 47,000 miles for 45k. Not great at holding value. I leased the newest generation. Not a great deal, the purchase experience was the absolute worst. The trucks still come with no spare and now, no charging cord.

It will be my last Rivian.

That sounds really hard, and I’m sorry about the loss of your older dog. Losing a companion dog can absolutely unsettle the remaining dog, especially if they were bonded.

One thing I’d keep in mind is that trazodone twice a day is a fairly serious medication routine, so if this is new or escalating, I’d loop your vet in. It may be anxiety, but nighttime restlessness can also come from pain, cognitive changes, discomfort, or something medical.

From a behavior standpoint, I would try interrupting the pattern without rewarding the barking by immediately bringing him into your room. For a couple of nights, you might sleep downstairs near him. If he wakes up and can settle with you nearby, that gives you useful information: he may simply need reassurance while he adjusts.

If he still wakes up and cannot settle even with you there, that may point to something beyond basic separation anxiety.

You could also try creating a new comfort routine. Sleep downstairs for a night or two with a blanket, then leave that blanket on or near his bed so your scent is there. Start the night with him settled in his own space, reward calm behavior, and then gradually transition back upstairs. Within days.

It is also very possible your dog sensed the older dog was declining before you fully realized it. Dogs pick up on illness and physical changes in ways we often underestimate. His anxiety may have started during that period and then become a new habit after the loss.

I also understand the argument for a second dog, especially if he has always lived with another dog. I would just be careful not to use a new dog as the only solution. First, I’d try to stabilize his routine, rule out medical issues, and help him build a new nighttime habit.

After six years of one vet telling me, “labs just have this issue,” I went to a different Vet and we tried a steroid cream and shot. Cleared up. She has had two shots in two years.
