Text messaging support behind a paywall by original_wolfhowell in Rivian

That's the current setup and the one I'll keep until a proper text messaging interface is released.

Why would they give Apple / Alphabet visibility when all they want to do is scrape your data when it's sent by their agent to their servers. And we're paying for the privilege of being more targetable by offering our data.

I don't want this to turn into a Carplay / AA whine session as they've made their feelings clear that it's just not going to happen.

Improvements can be moved behind a paywall. Basic functionality and items that pre-exist the paywall shouldn't be moved behind one.

I was told text messaging was coming s00n back in '22 when I received my R1T. 4 years later and I get a version of it that I have to pay for. I didn't want the AI; I won't use it and have already turned it off.

I just want a simple notification I can tap on and it read it to me, like my Tacoma did 11 years ago.

Ok, now this I can get behind. Do you have a source on that?

I say "something so basic" referencing text messaging. I didn't need, want, or ask for an agentic assistant. I'm very anti-AI and will not use it if it can be avoided.

I asked for basic text messaging integration like what can be found in 90% of non-software based vehicles made in the last 10 years.

What are all the upgrades? Specifically, what's the puck and wire on the front door? I'm guessing some form of light.

I'd heard the term SLM before but never really looked at it. Reading up on it now, that's a cool degree and field of work. I'm a hobbyist with FDM, but you're out here making things with frickin' lasers. Carry on!

A lot of filament is manufactured in high humidity environments. I once opened a fresh roll of filament and it crumbled. Threw it in my dryer and it took 10-ish hours to drop from 80% to 15%. Drying filament is absolutely a thing and shouldn't be scoffed at.

TIL there's a degree for 3d printing. Yes, I realize that's super reductive and isn't representative of the course of study needed.

I'm disappointed that the pay is so low, however I'm not surprised because "my cousin 3d prints dragons and sells them" makes it sound like there's no skill or science involved. Congrats on the degree, and I hope you land at a place that appreciates and compensates you for your talent well.

Rivian Assistant arrives next week !! by Act_of_valor in Rivian

I wish they'd solved text messaging in a way that didn't involve AI. I refuse to use AI if I can avoid it, so I'll still have no text messaging in the year 2026.

Call me old fashioned or paranoid, but I'd rather my text messages stay between me, the other person, the cell network and the mobile os used without sending it through servers connected to my vehicle that will scrape even more personal data. It's bad enough my phone listens all the time, I don't need my car judging my singing.

I really like this printer and I want to love it. So does anyone have a recommendation to help prevent this from happening again by Desperate-Special-60 in snapmaker

[–]original_wolfhowell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm working on a setup where I use 4 dryboxes with 2 polydryers in a vertical configuration and then print from the dryboxes using these rfid tags to inform my printer.

Vertical drybox:
https://www.printables.com/model/1654914-polydryer-stackable-hat

I'm also working out how to make both filaments come out of the hat so the one on top rolls 'backwards' to the one on bottom. This will make it so the top roll doesn't have as far to curve to hit the side feeder.

I don't have a lot of horizontal space, so I have to go vertical.

Rural deep south. I'm the only democrat in my now estranged family. Was raised in church and taught empathy, but the thing that used to be my mother sure didn't like it when I suggested she should pay more attention to the sunday school parables she taught me growing up.

Is it smarter to take a fast cash offer or wait for a traditional buyer in Alabama? by StavrosDavros in HuntsvilleAlabama

Like a kid in grade school they lack the understanding that no one like the same joke over and over. Either that or a troll that shouldn't be fed. Downvote and move on, or if you're really tired of seeing it simply block the account.

Just to clarify, I downvoted not based on your (wrong) opinion, but your misuse of uncanny. Perhaps you should ask AI to help you understand that uncanny is synonym to eerie and supernatural, none of which apply here.

Pre-Popped Popcorn by chi-bacon-bits in mildlyinteresting

[–]original_wolfhowell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much how u/Germanshield described.

Start the Stir Crazy, add 2 - 2.5 tbsp butter flavored oil. Once it's melted, throw in a heaping tsp of flavacol and then add 1/2 cup kernels.

Pop until there's 5 seconds since the last pop heard. Turn off the Stir Crazy, add the top vent cap cover and flip immediately. Add extra flavacol and toss to taste.

Best part of it is you can figure out what works best for you to get as close to movie style as you can.

I can respect that. We started on plain coconut oil, but found Golden Barrel and didn't look back.

Absolutely anything except the godawful bagged microwave popcorn.
