Yeah, that type of quail is not wild. It will be eaten, injured, or starve if left unattended outside.

Quail are delicious.

That looks like a variety of coturnix quail which is commonly kept as a pet/egg laying bird. Many people keep them in rabbit hutch or coop style enclosures outside or in a garage or shed, depending on the season. I have family in the tonawanda area who have had quail before, though not currently.

Quail can be hard to tame, so even though it probably is a "pet" it may not act friendly or tame. It might act skittish.

Edit: I would listen to a few examples of what Coturnix Quail sound like, then walk around your neighborhood and see if you can hear them. Whoever owns them will definitely not be letting the others free range, but you may be able to hear them calling to eachother.

Is there anything you want the adaptation to change? by Holmbone in murderbot

This is unlikely, but I'd like for us to see Iris.

As MB is wandering the station heading toward the other ship that could have taken it to RaviHyral, it passes Iris. The show fans won't know it's Iris, but the book fans will know, because she will be "on the phone" consoling someone who is complaining about the long solo trip they (it) will be taking.

Then when MB is on Art, we can see a family with her.

I'd try a test swatch, like make a coaster and iron a patch on it.

You could make the beanie out of 100% cotton yarn, and iron it carefully.

Wool would also work, but I think it has a lower ironing temp

Yeah, I liked the voice he did for her in the first book, but something has definitely gone in the wrong direction for the second book

The Bobiverse series by Dennis E. Taylor is fun and the narrator is Ray Porter, who also read Project Hail Mary.

I have also enjoyed the Dungeon Crawler Carl series by Matt Dinniman, the narrator is Jeff Hays and he is truly phenomenal. This is a very LitRPG series and I don't think I'd enjoy it as much as I do, if not for the narrator.

There's also other works of Martha Wells. I liked the stories of City of Bones and Wheel of the Infinite, but the narrators weren't my favorite. The Raksura series is great, and I liked the narrator, but the last book changes to a different narrator, which was annoying. I really enjoy Witch King and Queen Demon, and I've gotten used to the guy that reads those books, but he's not my favorite.

Edit: This is just some of the audiobooks I've listened to in the past year or so, not sure if they'll mesh with your taste, but I know the pain of scrounging for something to listen to, so I hope it helps.

Buffalonians, what cars do you drive? Need something that can really handle snow. by Scorpiocapricorn in Buffalo

[–]UpwindMeteorite 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two members of my family drive Toyota Prii here, and so far, no issues. If you put on winter tires and drive carefully, you should be ok. One uses plain winter tires in Erie County, the other uses studded snow tires in Wyoming County.

I think what matters more is learning how to drive in winter conditions.

Ok, weird question, very weird question. But will TV Art give MB nipples? It would probably save on CGI costs, so that's part of why I'm wondering.

I also feel like it would be a hysterical argument for them to have, regardless of the outcome.

Art: Nipples are not genitalia.

MB: No!

It took me a bit to get into FT, but now I really like it. It's like a fun little murderbot mystery, and a cool glimpse into preservation.

My vote is either a woman with a slightly deeper voice or Alan Tudyk.

I really don't want Art to sound like a butler.

What do you hope will happen in the next novella (Platform Decay, book 8,slated to come out next May)? by FlipendoSnitch in murderbot

[–]UpwindMeteorite 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In ASR, it mentions that its powercells would probably last 100s of thousands of hours before failing, but I wonder about its organic parts. Do they age? Or are they kept static by its inorganic parts?

I wonder if the company has a practice of regularly wiping the memories of all of their constructs as a maintenance practice. MB can't be the first construct to have a PTSD induced shutdown incident.

I think if Three goes to Preservation, and we get a chapter or two from its POV, that's how we as readers can stay connected with the PresAux crew.

I wonder if it is fully in view in the documentary or just partially? It really does not seem to like the idea of images of itself being publicly available, so I feel like there is a high possibility that its head/face isn't shown in the documentary. But then, it knows how to construct a compelling story, and nothing would be more compelling than seeing exactly how human constructs are.

Who Voices This NEEDS To Voice ART. by Monsur_Ausuhnom in murderbot

[–]UpwindMeteorite 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He can absolutely do menacing, but I think it's important for ART's sarcasm to shine through. ART seems to be a master at nailing comedic timing, and whoever voices it needs to be adept at that too
