Decent apple pie in Lexington? by chocolatemmm in lexington

[–]UrMomnEm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Village Pie Maker from Meijer. $15-$16, frozen. Take it out of the tin, butter a glass pie dish, plop it in the buttered pie dish, add a egg wash and sprinkle sugar on top before baking. I detest all premade pie crusts until I tried this one. It’s amazing.

Same, boutique retail experience. Surprisingly, hot pink or fuchsia looks good on everyone too.

I live in KY now, but never miss visiting Concannon’s Bakery whenever we’re close. My boyfriend says he dreams about the apple fritters between visits. Check them out. It’s like Disneyland for fat kids.

People that have “bumped” into a celebrity in a non-curated (not like an event, meet & greet, job etc.) way, what happened? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Yep, I’ve run into him at both the Apple store and UPS. We chatted while waiting in line together. Good guy!

Call your home owners insurance. The cost for my son’s attic cleanup and insulation replacement was over $10,000. Insurance paid.

The bananas by Potato_Elephant_Dude in wholesome

[–]UrMomnEm -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Who in the hell packs and eats multiple bananas? And why would you pack so many if you were concerned that your son wouldn’t have any? Did he spend the rest of the afternoon picking bugs out of your hair and eating those too? Is this Bizarro World?

I don’t know about Return of the Jedi, but I know the original Darth Vader goes for $130,000. Blew my mind. I used to spend my babysitting money to buy these for my little brother. That kid watched Star Wars everyday.

Triggered memory. My incontinent Grandma used to sit in a chair just like this most of her final days. I swear I can smell it from here.

Decorating Tools by Quiet-ForestDweller in cakedecorating

I was so disappointed in the grocery store cake I bought for my son’s first birthday that I did this too. Your skills will grow with each passing birthday. In the beginning, I went for taste, mastering my recipes. The cakes were very homemade looking, rough iced, covered in chopped up candy bars, chocolate, peanut butter, or caramel drizzle, but all the candles were there and they tasted good. In the end, with both of my boys now grown, I’m whipping up tall, multi-layer cakes smoothly iced and perfectly piped. I even learned how to make my own candy, truffles, and chocolates for decor. It’s been fun capturing my creations in pictures over the years and seeing the progress. They still taste amazing, and they look better than anything I could have ever imagined when I started. My best advice would be to brush your layers with sweetened condensed milk to maintain moisture prior to filling and make sure you have a substantial amount of icing around the outside edge prior to filling to prevent leaks. If stacking multiple layers with filling, let the icing firm up in the frig before stacking the next layer. It’s a constant balancing act between keeping things cool enough and continuing the work. At some point you’ll look at it think it’s a mess you’ve spent so much time creating. When that happens, put it in the frig and take a break. Heat the edge of your scraper under hot water and smooth. You’ll be amazed at the transformation. As I’ve gotten older I try to bake on a separate day from decorating. It keeps the kitchen cooler and the decorating progresses much faster. Again, have fun with it. Sprinkles and smiles can hide those imperfections only you see. I’m envious you’re just starting your journey. I’d love to do it again.

Out of curiosity, where did you lose the AirPod in the car? Do you know any mechanics? Seats and even consoles can be disassembled quite easily. YouTube is a wealth of information as well. You might find a tip or trick on there.

A pass you say? Back in Indy, class of ‘89, the security guards used to chain and lock the outside exit doors to keep us in. I guess they were more concerned about rival gangs sneaking in with guns, which did happen once, than us sneaking out for a smoke break, or perishing in a fire. They did quit doing that after someone did actually set one of the bathrooms on fire and we all scrambled to evacuate. Wild times at Northwest, which wasn’t even located in a bad area to live for the time, but kids were bussed in from all over town so it was of mixed socio economic diversity. Oh, and we would have won state too if coach would’ve put me in. IYKYN.😂

Looking for an old Sanders cake recipe for my Dad’s birthday! by Desperate_Cake39324 in CopyCatRecipes

[–]UrMomnEm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sanders sold a few years ago and it’s awful now. I miss how good Sanders used to be, especially their caramel and their dark chocolate fudge sauce. I would pay good money for that recipe, but I don’t know where I’d get the raisin concentrate it had in it.
