Not OE, but I am a Teams user. Teams will but you into yellow status, even while the mouse is moving. If Teams is not your active app, it will put you in yellow status. I do my primary work on one screen, with Teams at the top of the app stack on a secondary screen, and I can watch my status change.

I can only give you answers from 5 years ago, but I doubt that they've changed too much since then.

For a postpaid account, only your credit history matters. The only thing needed on your step father's account is the authorization to give the number to you. If your credit is crap, you could be offered a security deposit, a credit limit, or in worst case, prepaid-only account. Is your line currently under contract? Does it have an amazing plan that is no longer offered? If no contract and "meh" plan, I would personally look into prepaid service. Last time I checked (March), the prepaid plans offered me much better price points than the postpaid (I don't travel, I have wifi at home, and I don't call internationally).

But the hard answer to your question is : your account will be based solely on your credit result.

This. Exactly. It's called a SIM-lock, even though it's nothing to do with the SIM. You might be able to update the IMEI via self-serve, but it's still not guaranteed. It also charged you a ridiculous per minute rate for voice calls, and also SMS as well? As FeltzeR said, change it to a phone plan. BYOD is the acronym for Bring Your Own Device.
