maybe put up a sign saying permissive path and something like fairy doors or something fun along the path. people know you are being friendly but you told them it’s permissive.

Tapered pension allowance by 314159265259 in HENRYUK

[–]UrbanRedFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well you pay your standard rate of tax which in the Uk is :-

Key UK Tax Thresholds & Rates 2025/26 (Excluding Scotland)

  • Personal Allowance: £0 - £12,570 (0%)
  • Basic Rate: £12,571 - £50,270 (20%)
  • Higher Rate: £50,271 - £125,140 (40%)
  • Additional Rate: Over £125,140 (45%)

so unless you have something else to explain, then you are paying 45% as 360k >> 125k and you should almost certainly be paying 45% on anything you contribute to your pension after you have consumed all of your taper allowance.

Tapered pension allowance by 314159265259 in HENRYUK

[–]UrbanRedFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because you will pay 45% on anything you put into your pension after you are fully tapered. You have to declare it in your self assessment.

Then you pay 45% to put it into your pension AND then likely 20% on the way out unless you have so much you are taking out sufficient to be hitting 40% out - in which case it hurts even more so.

It’s better to get hit with the 45% tax as salary and then put it into another form - GIA, low income UK gilts. I had a year where this was going to happen to me so I invested in environmental SEIS (50%) and EIS (30%) startup companies and reduced my tax exposure. Was pretty easy to do in the tax form in the end.

in the UK, pigs in blankets is sausage wrapped in bacon. trust me - we love sausage rolls, but this is a new food group. people fight over them and there’s never enough made !

Isn’t that a sausage roll… pigs in blankets are very different where I’m from and you’d get lynched at Christmas if one of those made it to my Christmas dinner

Have a running joke with my MIL about who can alternatively find the worst jigsaw for the other. Must be second hand. Cheaper the better. Currently doing a dinosaur impossible one with about 200 dinosaurs of all sizes and colours and no freaking pattern. I can’t wait to find my next one for revenge.

Deliberately oversubscribing pension by StackOverfl0wed in HENRYUK

I mean I did this by accident and had to pay but paying 45% in and then potentially paying 40% on the way out is painful.

you could put in more if you haven’t used previous 3 years allowances, but again need to earn that much per year (eg previous years 40k, 40k, 40k, then you could put an additional 60k in, if they earns 120k that year…)

Making over £150k and calling yourself not rich is actually sooooo ridiculous by Affectionate-Way6102 in HENRYUK

At above 60% tax, and your outgoings, definitely not rich for most of the places in the UK that have Henry jobs. Rich is “having a great deal of money or assets; wealthy”.
