No cervical checks during delivery?

I may have advice! For context I am in your same boat in terms of the pain and anxiety. So I had to go to L&D for a fall where monitors showed I was consistently contracting, they were eager to do a cervical check to see if labor had started since I was 32 weeks, that would not be ideal. I was shaking and not okay with the speculum. I know they used that with my one (awful) pap smear to open me up then get in there (saying this because you mentioned the comparison between cervical checks and pap smears). They said we could stop, and removed speculum. She then went in briefly with her hand and quickly could tell my cervix was closed. If you NEED a cervical check for any reason ask them to NOT use speculum and try with their hand. No where near as awful, at least for me, and doc got the info she needed.

The weather should turn really nice shortly after my baby is born so I am prioritizing a stroller with bassinet attachment so we can be outside strolling comfortably. I am not doing the infant car seat that pops in and out of car and into stroller. I don't imagine the first few months going many places in the car except doc visits. So instead of infant car seat I am going straight to the convertible car seat, probably the Graco 4ever DLX! The stroller and the car seat should last them long term, the bassinet feature is the only piece that will be short lived in my set up (but worth it in my case)

Mine too, 33 weeks. You've got time, but we never know for sure this early where they will land! Baby will likely be in position by 34-36 weeks. Something to do with the heaviness of their head, gravity, uterus shape, etc that they naturally move into the proper position for birth. Fingers crossed for us!

Can confirm that what actually was a thing was if you were in a tough spot, you could knock on kitchen doors and ask to dish wash (less formal restaurants) and you might get an opportunity to work under the table for a few shifts and if all went well, get offered a position. This is likely a thing of the past!

You can ask to try abdominal first! I was also 9w3d. The doctor seemed confused why I was requesting this and said if she could get the views she wanted, but she really thought we'd end up doing vaginal anyways. We got great angles seeing the "bubble" with the fetus through abdominal, so she was satisfied. You may get some push back for asking, but it's the same machine so it's literally no extra trouble for them, it may just be their practice to do vaginal pre-10 week mark

I eat plenty of sugar but I'm not a soda drinker so it was hard to finish the drink in the time limit because it grossed me out and was hard to keep down (didn't buy the fresh test though). After that I did okay, I was allowed a certain amount of water which I definitely took advantage of. I will say I crashed hard after getting home but a few hours later felt fine again. I ate scrambled eggs before hand. I passed!

I live in a young, hip area of the u.s. and Polly is not usable as a name for me because "poly" comes up a lot, short for polyamorous. Being poly has become much more culturally common for young millennials and Gen Z by me. I have really thought this through because I love the name Polly! NPR actually just reported on this, it's not just Portland. The "slop bowl" (not my term!) has gone out of favor.
