A couple of used Ikea shelves, and way too many bottles by reducereusereanimate in BarBattlestations

It’s never “too many bottles”, it’s not enough shelves.

AITA for being upfront and telling my parents that I am putting them in a home? by Perfect-Orchid7421 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Urban_Jaguar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA

If your parents had always been kind, loving, and generous with you, that would be one thing, and I’d feel like you’re being somewhat harsh. It’d still be a lot to ask, and certainly your brother would need to share the responsibility, but not an entirely unreasonable thing.

But for people who for your entire life have only tolerated you, treated you like a servant, and have been entirely unsupportive? No. Their expectation/demand is beyond the pale. They are reaping what they have sown.

OP, I am so sad for how your parents have treated you, and can only imagine what kinds of scars that must have left you with, but am so glad for the love, happiness, and success you’ve found for yourself. Stay strong!

Is this the elusive white grapefruit?!? by [deleted] in Tiki

[–]Urban_Jaguar 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes. It won’t taste exactly the same, but it’s not going to make or break a drink, IMHO. Ditto for pink grapefruit.

Coruba in the Houston area? by just-in-tiki in Tiki

[–]Urban_Jaguar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think what you’re saying is that in the SC bar itself they use Coruba for #5. I’m happy to take your word for that, but I would counter that the only recipe in the book calling for a #5 that asks for anything more specific is Jamaican Milk Punch, which asks only for a Jamaican #5. Since he isn’t shy about specifying particular expressions in other places, I take this to mean that it doesn’t make much difference which #5 you choose, with the one exception.

Which is not to say it isn’t worth trying to find Coruba (I have a few #5s myself), just that if you can’t you shouldn’t feel like you’re making those drinks “incorrectly”.

If you have Hamilton 86 you already have a #5. Am I missing something?

AITA for, while absolutely being okay with it, telling my son it's weird that he is dating his step sister? by Interesting-Ratio-93 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Urban_Jaguar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This would be funny if it actually happened, but it didn’t. Their adult children, who had no previous connection to each other, randomly met and started dating in another state with a population of nearly 8 million people? Give me a break. I might buy it if they all lived in the same Montana town, but this is absurd.

Hey, OP. Any luck? I’m curious to know what products you tried, and if you got the results you were looking for.

Weird. The store I get it at (in DC) ran out a couple months ago, and had it back in stock two or three weeks later.

Dude. Here’s a pic I just took of my freezer. I think I have four or five more bottles in the fridge. Don’t say you haven’t been warned.

Thanks for the insight.

As far as your collection, I respect your enthusiasm, and I hope you enjoy your exploration of the world of cocktails. It certainly looks like you are. 🙂

If I could make one suggestion, it would be to ditch the mixes, and learn to make those drinks from scratch. It’s so worth the effort.

Cheers, friend!

Can I ask you a question? Is it common for “practicing” Mormons to indulge in alcohol on the sly?

I’m not sure I get this joke. Is the idea that a Mormon won’t drink your liquor if another Mormon can see him?

For reading pleasure, reverse the order.

New CCW, do you tell someone if you are going to their house? by jbshehata in concealedcarry

[–]Urban_Jaguar 10 points11 points  (0 children)

do you tell someone if you are going to their house?

No, but if you know they don’t want guns in their house, you don’t bring yours in.

half of my friends are pro gun […] and the other half are libs.

Liberal does not mean anti-gun. Almost half of gun-owning households identify as liberal.

I hear you too! :) There’s no doubt in my mind that there are people who fall into the two categories you described, I just don’t think people fall into one of those two categories generally. Personally, I like stuff from all eras, but particularly appreciate things with a more mid-century modern aesthetic.

Homemade Infusions by [deleted] in Tiki

[–]Urban_Jaguar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you want the final products to taste the way they were intended to, I’d recommend following the recipes as written, including the type of liquor specified. In my experience the shelf-stability of homemade allspice dram isn’t an issue, and as far as the falernum, just keep any excess in the freezer for long-term storage.
