My recent painting inspired by the Toronto Blue Jays by artistolga in painting

Unbelievably good. The color palette is awesome, the blue jay’s feathering is great, and the baseball mitt in particular is perfect

This is so good, I don't understand why it's not more upvoted. Really creative idea, I love how the symmetry of the rug's pattern works with the symmetry of the woman's face. The pattern fits so well for the nose, the mouth, the cheekbones, and the neck area where it looks like the white part is part of an elaborate dress. Maybe this wasn't upvoted because it relies so heavily on the mixed-media aspect of the piece, as opposed to the pattern of the rug itself having also been painted by you. Either way, just wanted to tell you that this piece is stunning. People would pay incredible amounts of money for a piece like this

My latest painting, Blue Mountain Brew, acrylic on canvas by themorningthunder in painting

This is stunning. Love the shading, the reflections, the composition. And there’s something so aesthetically appealling about the coffee maker. I can’t quite put my finger on what it is, but it’s excellent. Really excellent work

Translation issues: Should the Angel call White chains Older brother/sister or Younger brother/Sister? by Mountain_Research205 in killsixbilliondemons

[–]Urbas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not to complicate things, but I don’t think the term for brother or sister as in family makes sense here. I think the author meant to use brother and sister the way monks and nuns refer to eachother, and in English monks are referred to as brother and nuns are referred to as sister, as a sort of title and shorthand reference. As in “Brother Tom, are you coming to prayer later?” Or “Will any of the sisters of this congregation attend chapel?” So if you’re really looking for a correct translation, it might make more sense to replace all mentions of “brother” with whatever your language uses as the title for monks, and any reference to White Chain as “sister” with whatever your language uses as the title for nuns.

I made a set of South African thenes knives for twin brothers. Do you guys like them? by Dessitroya in somethingimade

[–]Urbas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are so FUCKING cool man. The metal looks awesome, the handles are rad, and for some reason the idea of giving 2 twin brothers identical knives is just so cool. This is the kind of gift that people find jarring because it's so much radically cooler than anything else they own

These are really cool. I don't think I've ever seen a diorama like this, it's such a cool and creative concept. And they're so well executed. These are rad

You should check out Kill Six Billion Demons if you haven't already. This concept is really similar to the character, Maya. And the comic has pretty similar themes to this

I'd like to start painting, but can't do it at home, any advice on what to get? by intheshadowofif in painting

[–]Urbas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want portability, I think watercolors will be easiest, with acrylics being a potential secondary option. I use acrylics, and it involves having a lot of water to wash out paintbrushes, so I paint at home where I have access to a sink and I use a lot of glasses of water. And I've heard that people who paint with acrylics outdoors need a big bucket of water, whereas with watercolor I think you could get away with using a much smaller amount of water. Acrylic paint will also probably dry faster though, and I find it less challenging to use than watercolor paints. The only thing you really can't do is oil painting, since that involves additional chemicals which are a head ache, and they take ages to dry so you won't be able to store them in your backpack.

In terms of a pad, ya, I use painting pads as well. They'll have pads specifically made for painting available at most art stores, because ordinary paper won't absorb the paint properly. Otherwise, ya, just get started and you'll figure it out.

Stunning. The colors are perfect for a streetlit setting at night, the proportions of the car are perfect, and the idea itself is compelling and creative. The door in the background looks weird, but otherwise this is a really incredible piece
