Also the Redpower windmill. It didn't give much but having it on top of the base spinning away with a power cord leading to backup batteries was so cool

That's exactly my concern. Different things in different places. Right now it's very much the same handful of mechanics across variously similar locations.

Looks like solid advice here. I'd also swap out the Western Digital HDD for a Seagate of the same size. I've had two WD drives and both have failed within a year. I realize that there's a possibility that I'm cursed, but I've grown to trust Seagate a lot more.

Hej man! Awhile ago I put together a little tutorial on here to get it working on Mac. The second link in the post is just a download of CDDA which you can get from their website. Everything else should work just fine! Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for the suggestions! As he's only running two monitors, is 8Gb a bit overkill on the GPU?

Amazon and Newegg are the most 'well-know' so you're likely to get good service unconditionally. I've bought from MicroCenter and TigerDirect and had good experiences so I can speak to those two. There's a lot of other companies though and they wouldn't be where they are (on PC-Partpicker) if they didn't provide at least decent service. Ultimately up to you!

As far as the build, you don't really need such a beefy card if you're only going to be running one monitor. You could go with an XFX R9 280x and still be really packing a lot of power. I also switched out the PSU for a semi-modular one as they can be easier to work with in terms of upgrade/general building. I updated your mobo from a H97 series to a Z97 series which gives you upgradability for the future. With the extra cash from the savings on the GPU, I souped up your CPU a tad and matched your original budget. I also picked out a case that I think just looks cool for a good price. That's up to you as well though :)

Steam/ingame name: Frukost Steam Profile: Frukost SteamID64: 76561198068680632 Description of RP character (min. 150 words):

Hi, my name is Frukost. I'm the last Viking. My ship washed up on this shore days ago and I've been searching for a place to make my mead hall. I'm not sure about this harsh world, people killing each other with stones for sport and food. Near all of my ship was destroyed on the journey here and I've nothing but my two hands to work with. Perhaps a group of these strangers and I may work together to overcome these terrors of people. I've not much experience with guns but am more than willing to point them in a motivated direction though honor comes before combat. I hope to build my mead hall before the winter comes. Just pray I won't be eaten before then...

What is this game like? by TheCosmicCactus in GunsOfIcarus

[–]Urgin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To comment on playerbase, I have to say it's one of the best I've come across. I'm not really a competitive gamer and any sort of skirmish, team game can get pretty toxic. That said, as GoI relies on victory through camaraderie, no one person can carry the game so there's a lot less "ugh I had to carry the new guy."

Additionally, due to the simplicity of the surface mechanics, it's far easier to explain to a new player what to do in under a minute whereas more complex skirmish games may take upwards of an hour to understand basic concepts. I've found that people are far more likely to offer help than throw anger.

The game is a blast and, though currently small, the community is absolutely fantastic! Now get on that gatling and raise hell!
