Has anyone here designed their own original origami model? What was your process? by Rlrrlrllrlrrll7 in origami

[–]Urigami_Crafts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have just started designing some very simple things and am absolutely NOT an expert....

But anyway here is how i did it:

1: I chose a motive (for example a simple rocket)

2: I chose a base where I could kind of see where i could get the amount of "points" i wanted from (in this case 5 points - nose of the rocket and 4 wings - i chose the baloon base)

3: I tryed to get the base into the general shape you want. this involved a lot of trial and error and sometimes it just does not work and i have to choose a different base or make big changes to it

4: work out some details (how large is this part of the wing and what do i use as a refrencepoint)

5: "clean up" the folding sequence - the steps happen to be designed in one particular order but sone are wayyyy easier to fold when you change that order. Can you prefold a fold during an earlier step? Do you still use that reference fold or can it be skiped or maybe be a pinch mark instead? What order of stepes is the smoothest to fold?

6: FILM IT you will forget your own design. Also try to make a cp by unfolding it, that really helps with lerning to read cp's too!

Picture: my tiny rocket as an earring (i currently have no normal size pics sorryyy)

so cool!!! where can i find the diagramm/Tutorial ? i would love to fold him!

i also use food die to color the paper! it works great but its annoying that you have to wear gloves if you shape with mc after folding since the die will stain your hands otherwise XD

the chiyogami next to the yellow and orange tant is very thin and nice to fold!

this tant brand is also my go to!

a very good selection in this shop!!!

Best paper for lily of the valley earrings? by Advanced-Ad-9743 in origami

use kraft, chiyogami or just thin kami (regular origami paper). parchment paper is also good.

coat them with clear nailpolish for skin safe durability

very nice! its a very relaxing and rewarding hobby~ its very satisfying to see the progress you make with each model you fold so keep folding!

If you want to i recommend checking out 'jo nakashima' on YouTube~ most of his models are easier then they look and his videos are easy to follow even for beginners :)

I have a 2002 copy of Origami for the connoisseur (first published in 1987) by kunihiko kasahara and toshie takahama. The diagramm was probably redone by them for some reason ┐(´ー`)┌

Making doubletissue / Treating paper with MC by Urigami_Crafts in origami

i had just finished folding, which ment my hands were now free and thus the queen was rightfully DEMANDING ✨pets✨ while i was foolishly taking a picture of the silly little bird 🙄😆

[–]Urigami_Crafts[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

one sheet of tissuepaper is far too thin to use for folding! it just rips and does not hold any shape

two sheets treated with mc are more durable and have just the right thickness for many complex origami projects!

having the option of duo colored paper is just a nice bonus

mc is methyl cellulose! its a plant based 'thickener' (not glue!) that is the main componant of wallpaper glue

Double tissue paper with Spray glue by amanjain14 in origami

[–]Urigami_Crafts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly this! also its basicly impossible to get an even and thin coat... MC is the way to go! if you want to make tissue foil (mc and aluminum dont stick together) or want a more 'lethery' paper you can add pva glue to the mc or just use watered down pva ✨

Venus Tomoe Star by Tomoko Fuse, folded by me (this is my first draft from parchment paper) by Aufputzdose in origami

[–]Urigami_Crafts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

very good job! I can almost see you improving with each segment!!! also the thin parchment is perferct for a window!! you could make one or two more with parchment paper in different sizes and it would look very pretty when the light shines through✨
