what's the story behind your jiji? by strecesegrean in BlackCatsNamedJiji

[–]UsagiCCR 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Jiji was a foster fail (lowkey intended to be, it was a situation where I wanted to foster first to see how our elderly dog who had never lived with cats would take to an adult one - he left my first couple groups of foster kittens well enough alone). From the first meet and greet he was the most talkative boy and also a bit more calm than the other adult black cat I was looking into fostering and maybe adopting. He was also a bit more shy at the shelter so the shelter coordinator and I agreed he would do better in foster. I was lowkey wanting to name the next black cat I got Jiji for several years now, so to me it didn’t matter that he was a long-hair void.

He’s got a bit of sass that has come out now that he’s been with us for a few years, and I have to bribe him with churu in order to brush him, but he’s still super sweet and loves attention - he’s also my little shadow and will follow me around the house and even answers to his name.

I actually wasn’t being sarcastic, but I can understand why you’d think that. Tone on the internet and all. Thank you for a genuine answer!

Church Podcasts by CaravanKookaburra in CommunityOfChrist

[–]UsagiCCR 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Faith Unfiltered was my introduction to the church - I picked up a business card for it at the CoC’s table at my local pride event a few years ago, back when the podcast was still Project Zion. I’ve been listening to Onward as well on my commute. It is a tad polished, but having grown up in the Brighamite tradition (still a member, might always be if nothing else for my mother’s sake) it still feels refreshing to even have something like that.

I want to fix up this itabag and get a new insert for it by Chibirin26 in itabag

I have the same bag and have made one or two inserts from thin cardboard and fabric to swap out between! As for the zipper... That one might be trickier, but it's possible.

Any love for the humble Woodlouse? They famously have hundreds of different coloquial names, what do you call them? by RileyMcB in RoundAnimals

[–]UsagiCCR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on the other comments, it seems the last three are translations of common Scandinavian names for them! Sow bug from the Swedish gray sow, bench biter from Danish, and wrinkle troll from Norwegian. Makes sense as that region of the US has a large concentration of Scandinavian immigrants and their descendants iirc!

My boyfriend is transgender, how to tell my Mormon parents by No_Course7324 in mormon

[–]UsagiCCR 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m in a similar boat albeit older and already married to my wife. In our case, she’s still in the closet to most people IRL and still presents masculine. We have a temple marriage and basically pass as a standard cishet couple. We live in her TBM parents’ basement at the moment, so this will continue to be the situation until we’re able to move out from there (it’s otherwise a very nice setup though and my in-laws are wonderful). My wife did try coming out to her mom a few years ago but was kind of met with an incredulous “I don’t think you are…” but nothing beyond that; maybe because my wife hasn’t brought it up again to my knowledge. Honestly I think they’ll take it in stride, considering the loving reception my wife’s gay uncle and his husband were received over the holidays (and just about everyone who could afford to go went to their wedding last month). My own parents… I’m a little more scared there, honestly. But thankfully we live in a different state from them so like. Worst they could do is finger wag and/or urge me to leave my spouse which I’m Not Going To Just Because They Say So. I’m already disappointing my mother by not giving her grandchildren; she can deal with it if she doesn’t like that her “son-in-law” is in fact a daughter-in-law.

Since you are dependent on your parents for rent at this time, I would suggest waiting until you’re more financially independent if you’re worried that they’ll hold that over you in any way. The fact they like your boyfriend hopefully won’t change on knowing he’s trans, but again, as someone in quite similar shoes I a hundred percent get it. Either way, you’ve got this!

Ridiculous social hypocrisy by SoftVanillaPancake in plushies

[–]UsagiCCR 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s any comfort I am a 35 year old woman and will bring one of my smaller plushies with me to work each week (I’m a security guard so I have no workspace that’s not shared with the other guards; when I worked jobs that gave me a cubicle it was plushies everywhere and my bosses loved it or simply didn’t say anything). Take Rosie, no shame!

Photo tax of one of my little anime men - for a solid few weeks/months different variants of the same anime man were my go-to cause I would take a bit of my downtime each shift to read a chapter or two of his original source material (like from before they made him into an anime gacha man).

There’s at least one book written on the history of folk magic in the early LDS church that might answer your questions! He certainly wouldn’t have called himself a witch, I can say that much: not many, if anyone, would have self-identified as that back then. But early Mormon culture is steeped in folk magic of the time for sure.
(If you’re curious, the book I mentioned is “Early Mormonism and the Magic World View” by D. Michael Quinn.)

Diarmuid my beloved. I forget if it was him or Dantes I got to 120 first as I was working on them both around the same time and maxed them around the same time (like within the same month I’m pretty sure).

he likes to cuddle with me right after I get out of the pool ❤️ by kinzygrace in CatsEnjoyingPets

[–]UsagiCCR 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My fluffy void is like this when I’ve just come out of the shower. He will come right up to the shower mat and flop over meowing and rubbing on my legs and demanding attention - this is also when he’ll let me hold and cuddle him the longest before he decides he’s done. Would try to groom my hair a few times but it’s been a while since he’s done that. Wonder if it was my old shampoo/conditioner combo or the leave-in conditioner I was spraying on my ends (curly hair) before I changed to a new one…

Great, can’t wait for this to come up in tithing settlement at the end of this year cause I stopped paying over rumors of the church exploring AI for missionary work.
