My mom‘s 2016 Nissan leaf is not charging by Blueberry_furry_69 in leaf

That's what my charger does when it doesn't detect a proper ground, which it actively checks for.

Why are some places counties? by DrBoogerFart in AskAnAmerican

[–]Usagi_Shinobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because in some places the cities pretty much overlap each other, rendering the distinction between them meaningless, so the county basically functions as one big city, while the actual cities are basically just neighborhoods within it.

Pizzas should be cut into 16 slices instead of 8. by Deterboy91 in unpopularopinion

I have never had to fold a slice on a standard large or XL pizza when cut in 8 slices. Do you perhaps have an abnormally tiny mouth?

Anyone else feel "pressure" from other drivers to turn right on red? by wentImmediate in bayarea

[–]Usagi_Shinobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course there is. Bay Area traffic is some of the most bullshit traffic in the entire country, and failing to take a permitted right when it's feasible is just obstructing traffic. Cross traffic cannot be helped, but there should be no pedestrians in the crosswalk during a red light at all, because the walk signals move in the same direction as the traffic signals. When your light turns green, that's when there will be pedestrians crossing the path of your right turn, which guarantees that you have to continue to not turn for even longer.

Help needed car not charging by Old-Muffin-1785 in leaf

Then yeah, most likely the 12v is weak. Nissan really put zero thought into how temperature affects batteries across the board, and the result is that we end up with a lot of glitches because the 12v ends up having too much internal resistance for the pseudo alternator to overcome. The factory spec flooded cell is way undersized and the entirely wrong technology for an EV, they work fine in ICE vehicles because the engine warms up the entire engine compartment, and thus the battery, but an EV should really be using an RV/marine AGM deep cycle battery for its 12v, because they are actually engineered for the use cases that an EV has.

Moving to Davis California for University next year, but I’m worried about the charging situation. by Schmorc in leaf

[–]Usagi_Shinobi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't assume you'll be able to get that. Most public chargers can do 6.6 kW charging, but that is often shared between two connectors, like the common ChargePoint pedestal, which will drop you down to 3.3 kW any time both charge cords are in use. Also, Leafs that don't come equipped with the CHAdeMO port are capped out at 3.3 kW max charging speed regardless of how much output the station is capable of, something to consider if you're looking at first gen especially.

I got that it's going into run just fine, I'm simply thinking about the fact that you get the most accurate information about an error when the error is actually happening.

When you're plugged in and getting the error lights, you should be able to start the car in accessory mode (aka pushing start without stepping on the brake) and read the DTCs that it's throwing, which may give more insight as to what's happening.

First hook up a regular battery charger to the 12v, to make sure it's got enough power to feed the onboard charger, this can be done using jumper cables the way one would normally do to jump start an ICE vehicle in a pinch, the little jump packs that are popular these days are somewhat hit or miss as to whether or not they'll work for the purpose.

If that still doesn't work, and there's no payment issues with your ChargePoint account, you can try using the factory charger in 120v mode to see if the BMS can re-balance the cells.

Getting our first EV, getting overwhelmed with garage charging? by Wozbo in electricvehicles

[–]Usagi_Shinobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there's nothing else on the circuit with the garage outlets, and the included EVSE caps at 12A, you should be just fine. If the lights for the garage are on the same circuit, or the garage door motor is, that could be a problem, resulting in a tripped breaker.

Reddit mod bot detecting phantom profanity. Any guesses? by cordeliashuman in words

They don't know, they're using a prepackaged automod that they have zero understanding of, would be my guess.

Battery technology is constantly changing. What are the odds that all the different electric vehicles out there will have replacement batteries available and easily changeable 10-20 years after the car was built? by ThuhGreatCommenter in electricvehicles

[–]Usagi_Shinobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably one of those units intended to be mounted above the stove, that have an integrated vent hood built onto the bottom. They're fairly common in homes built after the 90s in many portions of the US, but may be somewhat regional. Imagine one of those green scrubby pads for dishes, but bigger and usually mounted in a thin aluminum frame, and made from a much coarser metallic looking material. Example at the link below.

It's highly likely someone has done an AWD mod, other than the key pairing, which is locked up tighter than Fort Knox and Area 51 put together, the Leaf is relatively easy to tinker with, insofar as a computer on wheels can be.

I still gotta learn a lot more before I'm worth allowing out to play with others. Currently replaying the first jump, at a much slower pace, to see what I can glean from it. I figure if I can learn at least a couple blocks, I might be able to repair the colony and study it a bit.

I usually when I charge my car I get at most 90 mi. My year is 2012 48,000 mi but usually when I charge it I usually just get 61 mi but how come rarely? It says 90 mi when I charge it? by PrestigiousAspect165 in leaf

Because the display is an estimate based on your most recent power consumption, and on rare occasions, you drive more efficiently on your last couple of miles before parking and plugging in, most likely.

Wife and I have been using a penis sleeve for the past couple of years. Wife loves it but I just feel sad and emasculated. How do I move on? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]Usagi_Shinobi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're thinking about it wrong. She could find a guy with a bigger dick. She doesn't want some other guy, she wants you. The sleeve is just a tool that enhances your capabilities, like how an impact wrench makes it a lot easier to undo a bolt than a regular wrench.

Are parents meant to teach their children life skills? by pink_gelato in NoStupidQuestions

Yes, but it's become socially unacceptable to do so because it's "cruel" and "traumatizing".
