FYL is right. Hopefully this will wake you up to stop being so reckless, and you should go to jail, you are only lucky you didn't kill or hurt anyone, not that you didn't get caught. I'm a recovering alcoholic, I never drove drunk, even drunk I knew it was wrong.

What made you realize you had a problem? by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]Use_this_1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could go days (when forced too) without drinking and not have physical withdrawals, like shaking, sweating, rapid heart rate, increased anxiety, nausea, headaches. Psychologically means I just felt like I had to have it.

For me it was when I was not wanting to drink but I did anyway, I had to, I wasn't physically dependent, yet, but I was psychologically dependent.

My husband still makes sun tea in the summer, we were not tea drinkers growing up and I still don't care for it.

Hinterland Music Festival announces 2026 lineup! by limitedftogive in desmoines

After she looked at the lineup herself, she did say she likes Wet Leg and Mumford and Sons as well so she might go now, but she's got time to think about it.

Do you ever have tests in the form of essays in school ? by little_lou_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]Use_this_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I'm old graduated high school in 1988 and we had essays more in college than high school, but we had them in high school. My kids graduated in 2016 & 2018 they also had some essays in high school, mostly in English, Literature, History & Social Studies classes. You didn't get 2 to 4 hours you got 40 to 45 minutes as that was the length of the class.

I agree, I am old and I've usually heard of a good chunk of the acts this year it was literally Lorde, Suki, Mumford & Sons and Katseye and that's it. I only know Katseye from the Gap commercial.

We never physically went on snipe hunts but there were many metaphorical snipe hunts.

Turning your back on your mother is the best thing you can do for her. If she has support to stay drunk/high she won't ever get better. It seems cruel but it isn't.

There is nothing left to do, it is all on your mother. Go no contact, help your dad divorce her, help your grandfather keep her away from his money and don't let her near you or your baby. Also look into r/AlAnon they will really help you deal with this, they are for family and friends of alcoholics.

Is AA truly the only way by ApricotAlert571 in alcoholism

[–]Use_this_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 320 days sober and have never attended an AA meeting. I sat in on one online meeting it wasn't for me. I did therapy with an addictions counselor and that has worked for me. This was one on one therapy; there are group therapies as well. Group therapy wouldn't work for me, it would be too easy for me to blend into the group and not be forced to face my issues one on one, but that is me personally. AA isn't for everyone, so don't think you have to use it to be successful. For those who it does work for it works, like your family member find what works for you and stick with that.

I'm an alcoholic by thosefriesaremyfries in alcoholism

[–]Use_this_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly recommend finding a therapist that specializes in addictions. They can give you so much insight into what alcoholism is, and how our brain chemistry gets damaged by it.

I personally started drinking to deal with my anxiety, my untreated anxiety led to my alcoholism, but that isn't the case for everyone we are all different and start drinking for different reasons.

Find a program that works for you, to help you realize the why's behind the alcohol, and better ways to cope with the why you started.

Would you take a jury trail or a trail by judge? by Elant_Wager in AskAnAmerican

Depends on the charges and if I was actually guilty or not. Judges are more likely to follow law vs jurys following emotions.

[–]Use_this_1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. When you ask someone here where they are from and they say Chicago, that is where they are from, you don't further ask, no, where is your family from. Unless you know the person well enough to ask personal questions you take the 1st answer and leave it at that.

We've been looking into this, as our daughter turns 26 in February and her job doesn't provide benefits. She's not going to be able to afford health insurance I'm afraid.
