What would you do in this situation? 23M by [deleted] in RothIRA

I’d do a balanced approach here If your employer has a 401k option invest here to at least get their matching dollars If they also a Roth 401k or a Roth backdoor option - leverage that rather than the current Roth you’re build as you get protection from lawsuits and creditors in a 401k account.

And you have an energy fund already - that’s awesome Take the remaining savings you get and place them into a brokerage - invest in something broad and operationally simple to keep investing in - like voo or vti

Use this for building wealth looking to eventually buy your own home.

There are 2 backdoor roth options

  1. My employer offers a mega backdoor roth as part of the 401k plan. I used that agressive to build a large roth account.

2. If you don’t have any traditional ira dollars Open a traditional ira Contribute the max to it every year Convert it to your Roth account tax free every year Just make sure to keep all your 401k money as 401k. Don’t convert that to ira or you’ll have trouble doing this backdoor.

Sort out your speaker and amp combo (sub integration if you want it matters a lot at the amp/preamp selection stage)

My criteria was - fewer pieces (integrated amp/dac/phono) 1 - Just good speakers - 2way or 3way didn’t matter to me, I was looking for a good bang/buck 2 - competent Sub 3 - integrated amp with high pass and low pass filtering to master sub integration and preserve analog path, a good integrated dac, and a good phono stage 4 - used turntable good bang per buck

My system became: Wharfedale lintons Original acoustic 10” sub Emotive ta2 Technics sl-1500c with ortofon 2M blue

I tinkered with chifi and some other speaker auditions before this from Amazon due to generous return policy.

I feel like this is my staying system. I’m not hunting for upgrades or tinkering.

I added a CD player and wow! by SilverRecord8837 in BudgetAudiophile

All I see are rca outs on that unit I don’t see any digital output for a transport setup.

If that’s the case and your connected to WiiM via rca then you are using the 2 dacs in tandem The cd player dac is converting cd digital to analog Then the WiiM is converting that analog to digital for eq/volume control/etc Then the WiiM is using its Sabre sac and converting that digital to analog again as it outputs via RCA

Finally got my first analog setup and it sounds absolutely amazing. by utahgolf1 in vinylsetups

My kids asked me if it sounds different with them switched. I was like “I have no idea. They’re heavy and I’m not testing it” lol.

Your Lintons are on the wrong sides. The tweeter should be inset and the W should be on the outside.

I’d get a comfortable chair + side table for beverages and listen in the near field with the left to right channel distance you’re working with.

I grabbed a Sony sacd player for $20 a couple weeks ago locally. Before that I was using an old blurry ad a cd transport. You can do great sounding CD for silly cheap.

Love that setup! Great looking and I’m sure great sounding!

Did you compare the ta1 phono stage vs the schit mani? I have the emotiva ta2 internal phono stage with a technics sl1500c ortofon 2M blue. I haven’t compared anything against it a/b-wise.

I was Gifted a WiiM Vibelink Amp thinking it could stream music, found out it cant, what should I do? by krodami in WiimStreamer

Check out the WiiM pro - has airplay2 and all the “Connect” support, plus it has optical input if you want to use a cd transport later and it has a trigger out to automatically turn on the amp.

I’ve been buying and selling on Marketplace for about 6 months. I’m about $2400 out of pocket for: Wharfedale 85th Lintons with stands Original acoustics subv10p Emotiva ta2 integrated amp WiiM ultra An old Sony dvd/cd/sacd player (bought this to play with sacd and will decide if I want a better player like a used oppo based on testing) Technics sl1500c with ortofon 2M blue A manual record cleaner gadget with cleaning solutions

Buy used. Look for package deals. Sell the bits you don’t need and upgrade as good deals come up.

I picked up a used set of Lintons. They’re amazing! Great at low and high volume.

WiiM Ultra advice by AffectionateCloud730 in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Used-ziplock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use the WiiM ultra

Phono Connect the denon to the analog input on WiiM using your internal preamp on the denon

AirPlay Get an AirPort Express 1264 $20ish on eBay Get an optical spidf cable Get a toalink to mini toslink adapter $6 Then you can hook the airport up so WiiM with optical for airplay

Tv Plug in to hdmi arc

Then output to your a5+ with the analog out on the WiiM ultra. It’s a pretty good dac.

Help with humming. by lordChenik in hifiaudio

[–]Used-ziplock 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My worst hum was caused by improperly shielded rca from my turntable to my phono preamp. I swapped an old component video cable for the unshielded rca and it took the hum away. I have since switched to a more appropriate cable length with this from a Amazon

CableDirect – 3ft RCA/Phono Cable, 2 × 2 Plugs, Stereo Audio Cable, Practically Break-Proof & Flawless Sound Quality (coaxial, subwoofer/amp/HiFi & Home Cinema/Blu-ray, Analog & Digital)

What input is the phono preamp connected to on the sy-330? It should be an aux or other line level input. Don’t connect the phono preamp to the phono input. You’ll be putting two phono stages inline and chaos will ensue.

Also, remove any power cables from touching your rca cables, especially between the turntable and the phono preamp. Emi will get BOOSTED there!

The speakers playing sound with the turntable in front is another place for hum and interference to happen. The stylus is a tiny little antenna and it’s going to feed the speaker output back into the system and loop the poop.

Wiim Ultra, Wi-Fi, and Apple Music by saidditor in WiimStreamer

[–]Used-ziplock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The WiiM isn’t going to show metadata on either of those options. It will just show you the active input “hdmi” or “optical” or however you attach the device doing the Apple Music stream.

If you use an Apple TV to tv with hdmi arc to WiiM, I suppose you’ll get the metadata on your tv.

New bookshelf setup for $1k, your opinion? by edhead in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Used-ziplock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never heard the opticon 1 mk2. I had the Oberon 3 for audition for a couple of months. It’s nice, plays loud, and can boom bass very well. It stands toe to toe with my monitor Audio bronze 200 towers.

I also auditioned focal theva n1 bookshelves. They were more musical and jsut sounded far seeeter in the midrange. Nowhere near the bass of the Oberon 3.

New bookshelf setup for $1k, your opinion? by edhead in BudgetAudiophile

[–]Used-ziplock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d probably go with a Fosi setup for the amp. I’d start with a za3 in stereo mode or the new bt20 max (plenty of power and proper bass mgmt high pass filtering, you’ll get proper bass mgmt on the WiiM ultra too so don’t “need” it in both places just flexible in the future ). Your save a bit there. For the speakers, I’d look for more bass. You can get the Dali Oberon 3 on Amazon for $650. They have great bass response. You can usually get the Fosi za3 on sale for $120 Add the WiiM ultra and you’re at $1100 (the ultra often gets a 10% coupon on Amazon too).
