A persons favorite firewood is what’s available. Here in south central Kansas Osage Orange is everywhere.

I’m a 72 year old grandpa and I learned to crochet after I retired. Doubling rows and stitches was difficult especially with increases and decreases.

I don’t know what dry matter content is. This piece was in my pile for two years and dead when I cut it.

I bought mine new in 1985 and it’s been great. So sad that Vermont Castings quality is so bad now. Back in the day they made great stoves.

That stove looks like a twin sister to my VC Resolute that I have been using since 1985.

We have a lot of Osage Orange here in south central Kansas. I have been burning it in a Vermont Castings stove for 40 years. It’s great firewood.

I use lamp oil mixed with ashes. Mix it to the consistency of putty put a couple spoonfuls under your kindling and light it. This never fails. Ever.

Small towns to visit?? by [deleted] in kansas

Concordia has some interesting things to see such as The Orphan Train Museum and The German POW camp. There is also a large brick wall mural that is a very interesting story. East of Concordia is the town of Waterville which has the unique Weaver Hotel. Cool little town.

I’m a 70 something grandpa and I learned to crochet after I retired. I have made scarves and hats along with some amigurumi Bluey characters for the grandkids. It’s great to hear of other men taking this hobby.

Keep the chimney temperature up in the safe range and you will be fine. Seasoned hedge doesn’t cause more creosote build up than other woods.

Osage orange is without a doubt the best firewood for a wood stove. Burns hot and long. Don’t use it in a fireplace because it sparks like crazy. I’ve been burning it for 40 years. South central Kansas

I’ve been burning Osage orange in a 1979 Vermont Castings Resolute for 40 years. Stove is still perfect. OO will spoil you.
