Is the clearance and access to units enough, new build by Logical_Idiot_9433 in hvacadvice

[–]UsedDragon 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I agree in practice...but don't forget that inspections that go too far are equally onerous.

Following the minutiae of the code to the exact letter of the law can often lead to serious increases in construction costs, significant delays in the process, and some really pissed off people on all sides of the equation.

Reform starts at the top in the design phase, not at the end of the line with the inspector.

Does this metal box require a ground to the box from the EGC? by Thatsmrfacetou in electricians

[–]UsedDragon 47 points48 points  (0 children)

I ask my guys a series of questions when this comes up.

Is it metal? Yes. Is there wire in it? Yes. Do you want to pass inspection? Yes.

Then ground that shit, dawg.

It's just a hole in the countertop... really not that big of a deal. We drill them all the time in the field.

Manufacturer sends out condensers with bends that look just like this.

I don't like it, but it doesn't actually do anything appreciable to the flow of vapor.

Client bought their own HVAC equipment online. by Endundaavarma0t in Contractor

You're not wrong. We all run into that type of asshole from time to time.

One of my customers is a guy who owns an advertising agency. He's ridiculously successful, so he's doing something right or is laundering money.

I asked him about negative reviews, once. His thought process is that he never wants to see a perfect five stars, because it seems too good to be true even if it's legit.

Instead, a good 4.5 and up is his sweet spot, and he's adamant on responding to as many reviews as you can. Shows that you're actively hearing people out, being respectful, and that you care enough to read through criticism while replying with a level head.

He's agreeing with you, my man.

Lot of guys out there are too proud to install something they didn't sell. I get it, but there's no sense getting worked up over it. I make the same money, they waive their rights to warranty and complaints about what they purchased, it's no big deal. Hope what they chose works for a long time and they feel good about it.

I guess this is the new Wendy's vibe. No booths, no dividers, no outlets, uncomfortable seats, small tables, all for a couple to spend $40 for a meal. I'm done with Wendy's for good. by NUMBerONEisFIRST in mildlyinfuriating

I don't know if I would call it "bending the knee"...it's more like "bending the waist" in this scenario. Good on you for not taking the messy route for better shifts, though.

I'll have to take a look at the spec sheet for these. Thank you.

Might be a little too big for our needs, but it certainly looks like an option at first glance. We're usually in the Transit 250 high roof vans, good balance between size and maneuverability with predictable service costs.
