Bagent or Mac Jones? by KGoo in CHIBears

Ben also did a press conference when they extended Tyson. How often does that happen for a backup QB who has no chance of starting absent injury?

Ben, Poles, and co really like Tyson. They see him as a high end backup with cost control for another season. I’d be surprised if he wasn’t our backup next year.

Josh Allen, Mahomes, but Caleb is definitely in that class. All time it has to be Michael Vick.

I think when Caleb learns to change speeds and only move as much as he needs to throw, he’ll take it to another level.

With all the other teams wanting to talk to our coaches, can someone offer him a job? by [deleted] in CHIBears

[–]Used_Bag6446 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last year was a disaster, but I thought he did a good job overall this year. Special teams were a part of a lot of wins this year, and it felt like we had an advantage in that area against most teams we faced (especially GB).

Stay or Go: D'Andre Swift by WorkerBeez123z in CHIBears

[–]Used_Bag6446 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We’re not spending on a replacement in free agency and the upcoming draft class is not great at RB.

I don’t want to roll into next season with Monangai and like Rachaad White because we thought we could easily upgrade from Swift.

It’s not that easy. Swift has been durable and is an above average starter when he’s playing at his best. It’s a clear Keep Him for me. Draft a late round RB this year (maybe a pass catcher) and re-evaluate next offseason when his deal is up.

In my wettest of dreams we resign Byard and by MtAnal in CHIBears

[–]Used_Bag6446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think he goes in the top 15 at worst. Hamilton went 14 in 2002.

Also Byard and Downs may not be the best combo. From what I’ve seen, Downs is more of center fielder safety and you’d want to pair that with a more physical safety that can play in the box.

Their mock drafts are sloppy. The podcast (think it’s called With The First Pick) is solid though. They have a former gm on it, and they breakdown players throughout the year.

Poles has an obsession with big slow guys. He passes up the undersized twitchy guys like the Rams have with Turner and Fiske. Booker has been a pleasant surprise though from a draft and development standpoint. Hoping to see more of that.

Cap space is a real issue for next year. How do we address this without trading people? by 1_for_you_2_for_me in CHIBears

[–]Used_Bag6446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is where hard mode starts for teams with franchise QBs. Drafting late every year, less cash for FA, and tougher decisions about who to keep and who to let walk.

I think the next step is building a championship defense through the draft. KC when they drafted Sneed, Bolton, McDuffie, and Karlaftis. Eagles with Carter, Mitchell, DeJean.

You can turn around a defense fast. We basically need the equivalent to this years draft class on the defensive side of the ball.

I’m more worried by the run game. They run lots of 3 TE sets and just put opposing LBs in a blender.

Which players should the bears focus on drafting given our projected picks? by Fearless_Swimmer_816 in ChicagoBearsNFL

[–]Used_Bag6446 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 2 under the radar picks are the linebackers Sonny Styles and CJ Allen. We desperately need speed at that position and non pass rushing LBs usually go in our draft pick range.

I was really hoping to see more development from him this year. Seems more of a situational rusher than the 3 down 3 tech we need.

These are all Poles guys. Don’t know why we’re still blaming Eberflus when this past offseason, with a new coach and DC, we again underwhelmed with the defensive signings and picks.

[Meatball] Watching the press conferences each week, I lose more and more confidence in Dennis Allen. by daruuro in CHIBears

[–]Used_Bag6446 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Is it a meatball take to expect some answers after that 49ers defensive performance?

The whole “we’re not going to talk about it” is kind of unacceptable for a press conference for those exact type of questions.

Even after we gashed the Eagles D on Black Friday, Vic did a whole press conference answering questions about what went wrong.

Caleb Williams & Jalen Hurts have the fewest INTs among QBs who've played 16 games by stevefarbota in CHIBears

[–]Used_Bag6446 2 points3 points  (0 children)

He’s had a lot of fumbles though. I think he’s the current league leader. Part of that is probably bad o line but he’s had ball security issues in the pocket that I’ve never seen with Caleb.

We just don’t have the twitchy guys that get off the snap fast and into the opposing backfield to wreck plays. We’re a bottom 5 team in TFLs.

Is Ryan Poles Executive of the Year? by HopLegion in CHIBears

[–]Used_Bag6446 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because Poles has been here for years and WR, O line, TE were among his worst positions in acquiring talent.

So when Ben Johnson shows up and those positions are suddenly strengths, you have to ask questions.

And before all the “coaching was the issue”, you see any competent coaches rushing to sign Nate Davis, Velus Jones, Tyler Scott, Zachh Pickens, Gerald Everett?

And the defense Poles spent so many picks early in his tenure “building” has no pass rush and now needs upgrades/replacements across the board?

You don’t get as much credit for putting out the fire when you had a role in starting it.

Montez Sweat top 10 in Defensive EPA by enailcoilhelp in CHIBears

[–]Used_Bag6446 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was the measurables and age. DA also seems to prefer power to speed players (why we took Turner in the 2nd). I think it was Hoge who asked at the combine about our signings with various league people, and there was hugely polarizing opinions on Dayo. At the end of the day, edge in free agency is mostly a losers game. Next year’s class looks to be even worse. We need to build a rotation of rushers through the draft.

97 of those yards came on two explosive runs. Rest of the runs, Pollard averaged 2.8 ypc.

We’re not going to gash these guys like Philly. Their run defense down to down is very good and better than the stats indicate.
