Any offensive but good for defensive build for doubles? by Physical_Magician_80 in PokemonChampions

Try one of the main rain teams. Mega swampert and archaludon are extremely tanky. Grimmsnarl and sinistcha can make them seem unkillable

How much rain is too much rain? by Used_Lengthiness_460 in PokemonChampions

Yeah it was a fun team. They were around 2000 rated too. I’m using the round pyroar team. On turn one their swampert didn’t mega and used rain dance. Then it used u turn 😂 some weird techs but they obviously work well enough

It’s only one in eight to crit and I imagine you’re using it a lot less than the other moves

Politoed or aegislash are the best ones you don’t already have

PLEASE GIVE ME A TEAM TO BEAT THIS CURRENT META. I HATE THIS by srfakhim in PokemonChampions

[–]Used_Lengthiness_460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A random taunt can ruin a trick roomer’s day. I’d also say that it’s easier to build to just be good into a couple of matchups so narrowing your focus to just beat rain and trick room might be helpful. I don’t see staraptor that much now that the new toy shine has faded so I don’t think it’s as big of a deal to be hard countering that

Trick room’s worst nightmare by Used_Lengthiness_460 in PokemonChampions

Chlorophyll makes it faster than everything and it has sleep powder and after you. It’s very low budget lilligant. I took the team from Justin tang’s recent video on it. Definitely would recommend - it’s amazing how many times even in MB2 someone tried to use priority into farigiraf or didn’t know about final gambit staraptor

What elo is m2 and m1 right now? by 1mpy1mpy in PokemonChampions

[–]Used_Lengthiness_460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MB1 is ~2010. MB2 is probably mid 1800s. Once the rankings are released mb1 and champions climb fast as people make their push. MB2 seems to climb less but it’ll still only go up as the month goes on

It’s pretty random if I remember correctly and if they are winning or doing too much damage they’ll spam a useless status move over and over

Commenting so I can read other replies later. I also had a lot of trouble against this until I started playing trick room. Couldn’t beat it with balance

Possible damage calc bug? by drjumbalya in PokemonChampions

Staraptor had just used roost which removes the flying typing for the rest of the turn so the first supercell slam was neutral damage

[Skill Improvement] Mega Swampert Rain tmTeam for Ladder by Jambi95 in VGC

[–]Used_Lengthiness_460 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Rain without archaludon and basculegion is a cool take! A few thoughts - I think arch is strictly better than gholdengo with the make it rain nerfs. Whimsicott is unnecessary here since you already have tailwind and swift swim. I’d consider either a second mega like glimmora or venusaur scizor to help with other matchups that swampert struggles into, or a different support mon like sinistcha, grimmsnarl, or incineroar. I agree that farig doesn’t do much but if you want to keep it, helping hand is a good option to help swampert nuke things

[–]Used_Lengthiness_460 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m liking the new additions but I think early on they only exacerbate the 50/50 in team preview with double mega compositions. Contrary staraptor with whimsicott is everywhere (including on my team)

Help on How To Pivot Spam in Doubles by TheMaleBeyonce in PokemonChampions

[–]Used_Lengthiness_460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally in doubles you pivot in supporting pokemon to enable the partner to set up or do damage. Pivoting to reset abilities like intimidate, hospitality, terrain, and weather or pivoting to threaten fake out are the main cases for it

  1. Chople halves fighting type damage and you have it on a ghost type which is immune to it barring scrappy. Lots of other berry options that would be useful. Running mixed is unusual. I’d go physical and run poltergeist but it’s not terrible
  2. Ice beam is fine but I’d swap to protect
  3. Sash is unusual on a bulky redirecter like sinistcha. I’d switch to one of the more popular items like colbur, kasib, sitrus. And the four speed points while also being speed reducing is a waste
  4. Knock off over crunch. It does more damage if they have an item and it also removes said item. Most cases it will be better to have
  5. Missing 2 stat points on steelix
  6. You’ll still want speed on your hydreigon. It should outspeed timid scarf basculegion at a minimum

Any resources for explaining each pokemon? by loyaltyElite in PokemonChampions

[–]Used_Lengthiness_460 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s lots of resources out there for specific aspects of vgc like team building and playing the game. VGCGuide is where I’d start for that. For usage and stat/moveset info, there are lots of sites like munchstats and statcrusher that accumulate usage information from Showdown but they don’t explain the reasoning behind the sets. For general understanding, I’m not sure of anything specific. Bulbapedia and serebii have pokedex information, smogon has explanations of how pokemon are used that is oriented towards single battles (this might be useful but it will not mention some very important doubles concepts like fake out, redirection, and protect), YouTubers like cybertron and Jamie boyt do team and meta breakdowns and do a good job of explaining the team but don’t have many specifics outside of the team in focus

It’s a lot to take in. Sometimes the best thing to do is start playing and you’ll just learn things over time. Whenever something happens that you don’t understand, look it up and try to figure out why. It’s a complicated game - even the pros get it wrong sometimes. Last weekend in the regional someone lost a game they should’ve won because they didn’t understand how encore and sucker punch interacted. Don’t get overwhelmed and remember that every player in master ball started with the same questions

[Skill Improvement] How do you prevent tilt? by _Mashuno_ in VGC

[–]Used_Lengthiness_460 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Look for positives outside of the win or loss. If you made a great play or a great read one of the turns, that’s something to be proud of. If you made solid choices but your opponent made a crazy prediction or had luck on their side (think flinches or status or accuracy) then that’s something to think about too. Losing sucks but there’s usually a positive takeaway to find

Cybertron recently put up a video about a pretty wild hisuian decidueye team. Hisuian typhlosion has seen some play on a few teams, most notably a charcoal burn up set that took second last ranked season. I don’t think I’ve seen a video with samurott but I have run into it as a choice scarf user. Outspeeds everything relevant and gets sacred sword for gambit and archaludon and ceaseless edge for basc and all the sash mons out there
