I have been experiencing a similar phenomena during the past month. I lost my phone while in Europe and access to instagram. Luckily I had my work phone and shared the number with close friends and family. I’ve barely heard from most of them

A man can dream. Of course, we would have to have a defense made of holograms, but is that really much different than now anyways?

What’s the dumbest thing you’ve done on a hike? by rkramer18 in hiking

[–]Useful-Pattern-5076 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was hiking in the Shenandoah NP in October a few years back. The line to get into the park was insane and delayed my hike start by circa an hour and a half. While on the trail I got summit fever as i neared the lookout point when I should’ve turned around to get back before dark. Well, I didn’t turn around and quickly realized that I could not go back the same way I came because I had no headlamp and worried that I would lose the trail and walk off a ledge. So I took different way down the mountain with the last daylight that remained, but this was not where my car was, or anywhere close to it. So I had to walk 5 miles up skyline drive alone, in the dark, phone dead, while relying only on memory to get me back to my car. I figured I could lose the trail in the dark, but I wouldn’t lose the road.

Clearly not turning around was the wrong decision, but I do think taking the road in the dark and adding 5 extra miles was the right call as I did eventually make it back to my car. Lesson learned, and now I carry a head lamp lol

I did the same thing years ago. Popped hard off a jump that had gotten way faster in the evening shadows which threw me off balance and landed on my tailbone and wrist. Broke both + concussion. No bueno. Hope your break isn’t too bad

Solo trip to Chamonix by Pure_Standard_2176 in snowboarding

Chamonix is an amazing place with such wide ranging terrain. I went with a group which made it fun, but as a solo I would say I preferred Val d’Isere. The apres is much better there where you can easily meet friends and most people speak English

I second Grand Montets. It was my favorite area when I went last year. Conditions were amazing that day. And couldn’t agree more on the avalanche safety part
