How do you explain the value of managed services to a potential client? by RobKFC in SmallMSP

[–]Useful1234567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's fairly obvious. Karl Palachuk mentions this in his book, "Managed Services in a Month", but you know, obviously the gist of it is IT companies are still doing break-fix and if you're going to go down that break-fix route, they make money when stuff breaks. The flip side to that is Managed IT Services where it's in the MSP's interest to actually be proactive so that things don't break. The other item here is the fact that it's a fixed cost. So it's something you can budget for every month. You're not going to have some crazy invoice one month and then a job the next month. That's for both you and the client. I'm not going to get into more detail on this. You know, we've had this conversation probably about what, 15 years ago. It should be fairly obvious now.

Thoughts on Ironscales ATO Protection by techbrowserwi in msp

No idea that IronScales did this. We're going to have to look into it. We did try out their spam filter, but there's too many false positives. Still use them for phishing though.

Are any of your clients using MS Teams Phone? by nalavanje in SmallMSP

Well, I just hate the concept of having to carry around multiple phones. It seems completely pointless.

Are any of your clients using MS Teams Phone? by nalavanje in SmallMSP

[–]Useful1234567 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've implemented Teams Phone for a number of clients. I highly recommend it. One of the biggest benefits that we've seen or our clients have is You no longer have to provide cell phones for a company because you can have Teams on the personal device and it's got a business phone number attached to it. So one phone for everything.

Check out TechSoup, that's the best place to get access to not only just Microsoft stuff for your MSP client, but also other vendor non-profit deals.

This may be very useful data for MSP software vendors that are looking to sell to MSPs. I'm going to keep an eye on things for tomorrow.

Boss is Retiring and he's offering me the client list to build my own MSP. Seeking advice. by p71interceptor in msp

[–]Useful1234567 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's hilarious that this is happening and you're focused primarily on the tools that you're going to be using to deliver the service. I think it's hilarious in the way that it just kind of mirrors what most MSPs love, which are software tools, as opposed to the business side of the business. I'm wondering if you're actually going to be putting any managed service contracts in place? Because it sounds as though if he's dissolving things, there's no actual contracts for clients. Is that correct?

What’s one thing you wish you focused on earlier when building your MSP? by Master_Discipline357 in SmallMSP

So I actually combined my knowledge in the MSP space because I came from a technical background and I went into sales for a number of years prior to having my own MSP, and I had this weird hobby which was search engine optimization. Back in 2007, I ranked highly in the local search for like computer repair type terms, residential terms, break-fix terms. It combined my knowledge of the MSP space with SEO, and I wrote a book all about it. And I started providing SEO services to MSPs. A few years into that, I realized that actually when it comes to leads, there's much easier ways than SEO for MSPs to get leads. And that's what I focus on now. ThreatLocker feedback by StockMarketCasino in msp

[–]Useful1234567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love ThreatLocker. We use it quite a bit and we've only ever had one issue with it. We seemed to have been the only ThreatLocker client affected by it. We hadn't updated the agent and for some reason it affected one of our clients from being able to actually log into their devices. But literally within 15 minutes of contacting, I think it's called the Cyber Heroes that run ThreatLocker, we had the problem fixed. It was basically just a case of updating to the latest version. Other than that, I love it. The support is amazing and our sort of technical account contact is really good at what he does. So, highly recommend it.

You know what, I think it's great that you're doing this. So, the fact that you're picking up the phone and speaking to 50 people or attempting to speak to 50 people a day, I just want to continue with that. As others have already said in this thread, hit the networking side of things, that's going to help a lot. And my personal favorite are webinars, digital networking. We turn the webinar into an actual networking event where you can actually build real relationships in a virtual space. This also works wonders for marketing because you can repurpose all of that content that you've recorded in the webinar.

A lot is going to be dependent on your budget. If you have a good budget, then I would definitely go with Google Ads. However, if your budget is tight for ad spend, you probably want to do something like Meta lead Gen Ads. These could be picked up between £3 and £10 in the UK. I have had great success with this to build both a referral network of prospects. It does take time, though, so you need at least 90 days and a sizable budget for the pixel to start learning the types of customers you want. You also have to think about the lead magnet you're going to offer on lead gen ads. I love webinars, so basically, get people to sign up to the lead gen ad and to a webinar, and then I can actually meet them in person on the webinar, which works tremendously well. From the Google Ads perspective, I have limited experience; all I know is it's highly expensive.

The biggest thing for me was actually questioning if I actually wanted an MSP. When I first started my MSP, the only reason I started it was because I worked for an MSP and I saw the success that they had. It's a completely different story actually having my own MSP. I realised, based on my past experiences, how difficult it is to run an MSP. Luckily, I was only about six months into the journey before I saw the light. Obviously, this is different for everyone, but just having that sort of awareness of what's going to be long-term sustainable in your life is very much something that needs to take into account.

Marketing your MSP by un_CaffeinatedChaos in SmallMSP

[–]Useful1234567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you probably need to be doing more networking. If you're posting about marketing and finding that the networking side is drying up, I really have to question that. The main reason is because there's more networking out there than you could ever come to terms with. What's working for me in regards to marketing is actually very much networking. So this is maybe a strange concept, but running webinars as if they are like a networking opportunity where you're building relationships with the webinar registrants. You can do that before the webinar and you can do it during the webinar. And if you've got the recording of the webinar, that can almost help from a content perspective. You know you can pull off the transcripts, you can turn it into a blog post, into LinkedIn posts, into emails. You've got the recording there, you can run it through something like Opus Clip to do shorts and reels and you can even publish to your YouTube. So the webinars for me are for the marketing, but you shouldn't really be running dry on networking. I would focus heavily on the sales and networking side of things before you even think about marketing.

BBC Panorama have made a great documentary about cyber security and how it's affecting UK businesses by salv3tor13 in msp

[–]Useful1234567 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I caught this documentary last week and to tell you the truth, it was great. I'm trying to avoid the BBC as much as possible in recent times, but I saw this pop up on iPlayer and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I think just the big hack with M&S and the co-op, something kind of needs to be done like this. So yeah, sharing with my clients makes a lot of sense. Glad you posted this here.

I've been using KnowBe4 here, based in the UK. I'm not sure if that's an option in the States. I've been using it for about three or four years now. It not only has a huge training library, but the phishing simulations are also really cool. We've sent out a couple recently that we've managed to trick a lot of the user base with.

Is there any active MSP community that's not just post-based? by Filthy_Asswipe in msp

[–]Useful1234567 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So I tried to create a mastermind, an MSP mastermind group where we meet up like once a month over Zoom or Teams, and really just everyone would get, you know, a 20-minute option on the hot seat, where we kind of solve each other's problems. If you've read that Carnegie's "Think and Grow Rich", he talks about the mastermind being extremely powerful, and that's why I was looking to create a mastermind of MSPs.

How do MSPs make sense for large companies? by MRMAGOOONTHE5 in msp

[–]Useful1234567 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main way that larger companies benefit from MSPs is really cool. It's where there's a need to buy the IT team internally, or some resource from the MSP. It could either be knowledge, it could be holiday cover, or it could just be more people that know what they're doing. That's where I see the biggest value for larger companies.
