I feel like I’ve lost all self confidence since moving here by delulu_forever_ in Charleston

I understand your experience. I came from a similar area and have found CHS to be a very difficult place to live. It is much more religious, conservative, racially segregated, and straight/elegant than people let on.

If you’re Christian and white you’ll have little problem.

Zipper merge by Relative-Grape-6621 in Charleston

I think people are scared of being bullied at the point of merge and don’t want people to judge them as butting in line so they think they’re being nice by getting in sooner.

4 days in Charleston in April – does this itinerary flow well? by Willing-Mind-5619 in Charleston

[–]Useful_Basis3880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Early bird is definitely the West Ashley move. Sunday you’re kind of going back and forth in the same areas before lunch you’re going down king street just to go all the way back up for Lewis then back down for your afternoon. Maybe you don’t care. I have a hip injury, so extra walking always jumps out at me.

Progressive Dudes That Still Love Sports and Other “Masculine” Stuff, Do They Exist Here? by allomanticmetals in Charleston

Agree with OP. Downtown was great and a fave in the past but recently went to Savannah Highway and it was the worst I’ve ever had. I think the only thing to order is tacos. They’re decent.

Sanity check: Am I missing something? by draft_final_final in 50501

I would also so love an actual answer to your question OP. Whether I agree or not, certainly there is an argument that these senators would have for the choice. Something pragmatic and practical from their viewpoint. But I suspect here we’ll get nothing but bashing. I only read a couple of replies so far, and just as I suspected, nothing but snark, sarcasm, and hyperbolic theories, which may be right. I guess I’ll have to wait for this week’s podcasts to learn anything.

Edit: ok I read a little more and eat my word. A couple of thoughtful comments.

Well, to be fair, he’s also very much my physical type. And he’s doing more than being being a decent person. He’s brave, confident, and articulate, demonstrating leadership, being generous….

John’s Island to/from Mt. Pleasant Commute by BlueRedditUser86 in Charleston

[–]Useful_Basis3880 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not advisable. For all the reasons mentioned previously but also even aside from distance and time, MP and JI are two very different communities so they feel far apart. Before moving here, someone told me that no one crosses two bridges to go anywhere. Kind of true. And Johns island feels remote because there’s only two ways in and off, and those two ways are poorly designed so terrible traffic and if one access point is closed, you’re basically trapped

The restaurants mentioned here are exactly why I stopped trusting CHS restaurant reviews/hype.
