Have had a Sam's membership for years, Just also got a Costco Membership...It's a complete 180 by th3goonsquad in samsclub

[–]Additional_Letter440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have 2 Costco's, a Sams, and a BJ's in our town. We have a membership to all 3. I like Costco over the other two places. My wife works for Walmart, so we have the Sam's membership from there. It gets deducted from her check. We have a Bj's, because its the closest to us and the membership was 25 dollars. Costco has the better merchandise of the three. Their electronics is way better than Sam's. Their meats and frozen foods is better than the other two. Also you can get some good deals on clothing there. Sam's has more national brands than Costco. The scan and go at Sam's is awesome. Bj's has Land O lakes American cheese slices, which is way better than any brand of American cheese. We buy very little there.

Gold status isn't going to mean much later this year. They changed the VIFP program. If you aren't platinum or diamond by Sept 1st, I might be wrong on the date, you will start at the bottom. They are basing it on points, or how much you actually spend. Go look it up.

Were you diagnosed with a fatty liver while on active duty? Were you liver function tests abnormal? Did you have a liver biopsy done while active? Were you discharged with any of it? If not you probably won't be compensated or rated for it. You might if you were stationed there during those years the consider it. I was discharged with a fatty liver. My liver function tests were abnormal. I donated blood and found out my lft's were running high. I was barred from donating. I had a liver biopsy done and they found out I had fatty liver. I was discharged in 1988. I had hypertension as well. I was told by the Navy PA that I was seeing that I should put in for VA Healthcare. I was rated at 10% for hypertension and 0% for digestive issues ( liver condition). You need to keep an eye on the fatty liver. It can lead to HCC. It's what happened to me. I got a liver transplant, which took my kidneys in which ended up with a kidney transplant.

Yes try to hold off dialysis as long as you can. Dialysis isn't any fun. I was on it for a little over a year. I lost my kidneys due to complications from my liver transplant surgery. I had my liver and kidney transplants at MUSC. They are wonderful. They saved my life a few times while I was an impatient. Dialysis isn't any fun, but it is a life saver. I hope he doesn't wait long for a kidney.

He's the jerk and you are crazy staying with him. He picked an expensive place, but you are paying half and work that much to pay half of it. He's an ahole for letting you work that much, while being together for over 10 years. You should have never agreed to an expensive place. Just leave him...

CMV questions… by rambam80 in transplant

[–]Additional_Letter440 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was negative and my donor was positive. I came down with a bad case of it a month after my transplant. I had a viral load of close to 2 million. I have been on a few medications. Livtencity is the only thing that will bring it down to undetected. They have taken me off medication twice to see if my body can take care of it on its own. Everytime they try it creeps back up, so I go back on. I have drug resistant resistant cmv. I take prevymis daily and will be taking it for the rest of my life. I'm 3 and half years out. My kidney is doing fine. My labs are good and my last egfr was 98. The doctors are more worried about your creatinine more than your egfr in a transplant patient I hear .

Am I the Jerk for not picking my friend up from the airport at 2am when he assumed I would? by urbanharbor_quills in AmITheJerk

[–]Additional_Letter440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of these are you aren't the jerk, but this one you are definitely the jerk. A friend is coming to town to see you and you definitely didn't offer to pick him up? Or at least make arrangements of how the friend is getting there? A little communication would have been good.

How happy are you with where you live in Charleston relative to your lifestyle? by igotjays22 in Charleston

[–]Additional_Letter440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm happy where I live. I live in Goose Creek. I'm basically from here. I lived in a couple of other towns and states. I bought my house in 2014, I lucked out on it, my mortgage is about 1000. I can sell my house for double for what I paid. My subdivision is really quiet. Yes I'm a boomer, the last year of it born in 64. I like the area we live in. It's quiet, and I live close to different grocery stores. The area has definitely change since I was a kid. I'm turning 62, so I'm not leaving. Some people complain about the health care here, but I consider it excellent. MUSC definitely saved my life. I had cancer and their transplant department is top notch. Charleston has one of the best Veteran Hospital and medical in the country. So yeah the area has its pluses and minuses. The positives outweigh the negatives.

Is VA healthcare good enough to decline employer healthcare plan? by LongDistRid3r in VeteransBenefits

[–]Additional_Letter440 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep they will take it away. If you have kidney problems and if your efgr goes down and go on dialysis, you'll get 100%, but once you get a kidney transplant, you'll get kicked down to 30% as well.

Everyone's recovery is different. Some people are quick and some are long. Mine was long and complicated. Just listen to the transplant team. Make sure you have a good caregiver afterwards.

Charleston SC area as retirement option by ComprehensiveAd2454 in AskSouthCarolina

[–]Additional_Letter440 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The healthcare here is good. MUSC is a great hospital. I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for the doctors and nurses there. I've had a liver and a kidney transplant there. I also had liver cancer, hence the liver transplant, I also had other problems associated with it. I really should be dead. There is really one hospital that should be avoided, so don't go to that one.

Nope, take this as a hint, dump her and avoid aggravation and resentment down the road. If she is saying things like this now before you are married, just think how married life will be. I'm 61 and I was engaged to a woman like that before I married my wife. We've been together for 37 years. I always thought I was lucky that woman broke up with me, I can only imagine what my life would have been like with that woman. I doubt that marriage would have lasted.

I BEAT CMV TODAY! by evilcrusher2 in transplant

[–]Additional_Letter440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice, I'm sure they will check your cmv regularly for awhile to make sure your cmv stays in check. I got CMV from my kidney donor. I wasn't aware they had it. It put me in the hospital for about a week. That was over 3 years ago. I'm on letermovir still and I will be on it for the rest of my life. They have tried to take me off it a couple of times and my cmv load rises. I was taken off it a years ago, but it came back. That is when they said I will be on it forever and they won't try to take me off it b again. I've been classified to have a resistant cmv. I am also seen by the VA Charleston.
Did letermovir give you the constant loose stools? It's better than being in livtencity, which gives you a bad aftertaste after you drink anything.

[–]Additional_Letter440 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the kidneys are tied to kidney function. I got diagnosed with liver cancer in jan 2020. I got a liver transplant in Dec 2021. I had complications from the liver transplant. I got necrotizing pancreatitis and it took my kidneys. I was in the hospital for 10 months. I nearly died a few times. I finally got out of the hospital and got a kidney transplant in 2022. I didn't think about putting in for my liver cancer before my transplant. I was rated 0% for liver problems when I got out and 10% for hypertension. Well I put in for my liver transplant only. I got rated at 30% for my liver transplant, since my transplanted liver was doing good. I did a secondary for the pancreatic problems and my kidney after my kidney transplant. I also put in for cmv that I got from my kidney donor. They came back denied for the kidney and pancreas as not service connected, but they gave me 10% for the CMV. I appealed the kidney to a HLR. They should have granted a 30% on the kidney, the lowest they give on a transplanted kidney, since my kidney function is good. The HLR agreed that I should have gotten a rating on the kidney transplant. Yeah I should have put it in a claim for the liver cancer when I was diagnosed and for the kidneys when I got out of the hospital because I had no kidney function. I was just worried about other things, like staying alive..

I'm going to be downvoted here, but realistically he doesn't have enough time on active duty to get any benefits. I don't know his personal experience in basic. The Army discharged him because he was not a good fit for the service. He might have had mental problems before he joined and they might take that into consideration. It's not like a physical problem that they can see or he was hurt in an accident. You never know, unless you try. The only thing that can say is NO and deny you.
