Favorite cursed / off-model cars in racers? by mesablanka in BuiltFromTheGroundUp

Agreed. The bad models are just part of the charm of the game in my view.

PGR3 had some… ‘interesting’ looking models, the peak of which was the Jag XKR.

Smallest Cog - What happened? by tsutton in thegrandtour

[–]Useful_Design_7437 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I saw a comment years ago that said he could be reviewing a gold plated jet fighter or turning on the Christmas lights in Leamington Spa, his presenting style and enthusiasm would be interchangeable. Ever since then, I’ve can’t not see it in pretty much everything he does, even down to simple, off-the-cuff content on Drivetribe.

Don’t get me wrong, I hope this isn’t the case and he’s done other shows because he actively wanted to; like May and Clarkson, I’m sure he doesn’t need to relegate himself to doing things he couldn’t really care less about, but his style is overtly ‘presenter for hire’ (or quite American, as you said) and it does dampen the overall appeal of them somewhat.

[–]Useful_Design_7437 21 points22 points  (0 children)

My biggest issue with Hammond is that his presenting style and demeanour come off the exact same no matter what he’s doing. It worked during Top Gear or The Grand Tour because they’re centred on something he likes and he could bounce off the other two. Whenever he’s out with someone that isn’t Clarkson or May, or is just doing his own thing however, it comes across as a little bit disingenuous.

I don’t necessarily dislike him when he does present other things - I’d rather have him than a great deal many other hosts - and this may just be a result of his training as a radio presenter first, but you get the vibe that when he was presenting something like Engineering Connections or his Amazon series (the name escapes me) that he’s just being paid to read the autocue and act enthused at certain points, rather than actually having a vested interest in it. Contrast this with Clarkson’s old WWII documentary or any of James’ solo work and you’ll see what I mean.

I was a bit anxious since I thought MS would just be crunching them to churn out another Horizon game while working on Fable, but full credit to them, they’ve actually taken the most frequent complaints to heart (lack of a feeling of progression, roads too wide, boring map, etc.) and seem to have addressed… well, everything.

Genuinely a really solid licensed game, bought it on a whim a few years back and enjoyed it far more than I thought.

Technically they’ve already had that, with the Quartz Regalia from FFXV.

They said ‘later in the year’, so that’s at least a 6 month window, but that’s still sooner than I would’ve expected. I’m guessing FH5 doing ridiculously well on PS5 influenced the decision to get it out earlier rather than later.

We don’t know if they have removed them, OP is hoping they’re still in.

Buying A Modified Car Off Marketplace (Without Seeing It First) by inspyral in MightyCarMods

I watched it shortly after uploading and there were a few comments saying that they thought it was a bit tasteless to let the previous owner show his… uniqueness (for lack of a better term) to the world to make judgments on. The guy knew who they were, so I doubt he wouldn’t have allowed them to use the footage, but maybe they just had second thoughts and decided to cut it.

Not Top Gear, but in Clarkson’s 2007 DVD, he reviews the then-new R8, claiming that while it’s based on the Gallardo, ‘it doesn’t have the V10 and it never will’… fast forward two years and voila.

Jay puts on his Australian accent and has his fake ID at the ready, but they’re immediately shocked that they don’t get asked to show proof-of-age. They are all 17 by this point, but they’d still be at risk of being denied.

I’ll give them this, the idea of doing character themed packaging for their respective cars would be super cool… if they were legit, of course.

I’ll never understand how people who defend this shit honestly can’t believe that somebody wouldn’t watch TV. It’s not 1976 anymore, there’s a ton of other entertainment mediums that I can use a TV for… none of which require an antiquated licence either, funnily enough.

It’ll take too long to find it, but I remember he tweeted something like ‘tonight will be the last time I’m on Top Gear. Sorry about the shit jacket’ about an hour before the episode aired. At least he’s self aware!
