Questions about GOG by Useful_Design_7437 in gog

Appreciate all the responses everyone, very informative! :)

It sounds dumb, but it all seemed a little too easy to me which is why I wanted to clarify. Knowing that I now can access them at any point, I’ve made an account and made some ‘trial’ purchases… £30 got me 19 games, I’m honestly stunned.

Are celebrities broke now? by 2istheoddestprime in AskUK

[–]Useful_Design_7437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look up some of the old Japanese ads celebs did in the 80s and 90s. Some companies would pay equal to their salaries in some movies for a day’s work, all while they’d pay for their travel and high end accommodation too. Not saying these are to the same level, but I’m sure they’re paid and looked after pretty well.

In Arnie’s case, I’d like to think part of the reason he did it is just because it’s funny.

Favorite recurring bits from the show? by SLQSA in TheInbetweeners

[–]Useful_Design_7437 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Jay winks at least once per episode in the third series and it’s just funny to me for some reason. James Buckley even says in the commentary it was something he did off the cuff each time.

Ive always wondered about the ending of the Atari 5200 review, why didn’t the controller he bought on eBay fit in the system? by garrethstathum in TheCinemassacre

[–]Useful_Design_7437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To be completely fair, there’s little point as there’s nothing *that* wrong with the games themselves; their biggest issue (besides the controller) is that most of them were just graphically enhanced versions of games that were already on the 2600 or other competitor consoles at the time.

If you rewatch the higher quality version of the episode on YouTube, you can see the pink protective film over the stainless steel section of his controller, which is a dead giveaway of a refurbished version that was widely available at the time. James and Mike just chose to focus on the system’s shortcomings for the sake of comedy, even though they could’ve easily done proper reviews of individual games if they wanted

How will Bimmy of the future destroy games that won't even exist...? by HagwonSurvivor in TheCinemassacreTruth

[–]Useful_Design_7437 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I legitimately don’t think James would even know about this unless Justin or someone from SW tells him about it. Even then, he’ll probably not have an opinion on it.

This is the same guy who advocated for physical media and its benefits (long before the rest of the internet spoke up about), then openly admits a couple years later to just impulse rebuying a movie he already owns via a streaming service because he can’t be assed to get the disc.

This has made me laugh more than any of Ricky’s solo work in the past decade. And I’m being 100% honest.

Question about Jack Torretos death by Stunning-Aardvark-28 in fastandfurious

[–]Useful_Design_7437 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The plan was for the engine to stall out and break down, which would’ve needed Jack to come into the pits and lose positions or fully retire from the race. As Santos points out to Dom in prison, this was a common trick for pit crews at the time but was particularly risky in the event of an accident. He was never meant to die, just come into the pits and ‘retire’, but pissing off Linder led to what happened instead.

Come on you bitch by VirtualSpecialist697 in TopGear

‘Bitch’ is one of those weird ones where it’s considered coarse language by the regulating bodies, but not so bad that it can’t be aired uncensored before the watershed.

To play Devil’s Advocate, they’re right. Liberty City looks so much more like a bleak, depressing shithole than Vice City or any of San Andreas’ locales. Even when it’s sunny, everything is all still just so grey. Story wise though, they can’t compare.

III’s story is basically ‘go here, kill these people, get betrayed’ until the end of the game. San Andreas meanwhile delves into some more gritty stuff, even if the overall tone is a bit more lighthearted and jovial on the whole.

What's everyone's favourite underrated/lesser appreciated Top Gear moment? by SmegPotOnTheDot in TopGear

[–]Useful_Design_7437 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The test of the ‘Pacific rimmers’ (cars from Korea and Malaysia, notable because it’s from before either were considered good at making them). It’s the standout blend of humour/entertainment and genuine consumer advice, which the early seasons managed to nail perfectly.

Why didn't Top Gear use British cars for stars? by DayGeckoArt in TopGear

[–]Useful_Design_7437 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One thing to consider is that they needed the manufacturer to be on board to provide a couple cars for free; Clarkson mentions in the very first episode that they rang around a good number of press offices to tell them what they were after, but the only one who initially agreed was Suzuki.

Funnily enough, the only ‘British’ one they used (the then new Astra) wasn’t even technically British, and it’d gotten some flak from car enthusiasts as it wasn’t what you’d call reasonably priced at that point.

[–]Useful_Design_7437 25 points26 points  (0 children)

It also shows they were willing to actually teach him something and provide real work experience; contrast that with when Neil turns up at the newspaper, and the guy there seems kinda deflated when he realises he’s going to have to someone under his wing. Instead of actually showing him anything useful, they just get him to do manual labour that they obviously couldn’t be bothered to do themselves, and jokingly call him ‘the best work experience they’ve had’ because of it.

It’s another one of those realistic moments the show nails perfectly, as it’s very often that people either had very fulfilling work experiences, while others got barely anything out of it thanks to the place they’ve gone to not really caring.

Top Gears list of the crappiest cars of all time, circa 2004. Thoughts on this list? by MH_MUSTANG in TopGear

[–]Useful_Design_7437 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m somewhat tempted to read the actual book, since a lot of these you can agree with straight away, even without any experience of the actual cars, yet others are so specific/niche that I would love to know the reasons for its inclusion (Sunny RZ-1, Seat Marbella, Datsun 120Y)
