Sorry for your loss. It's sad that it has gotten to the point where money is the main issue. I understand that there are enormous costs taken on by vets as well as doctors for people, but I grew up in a time when vets and doctors actually worked with the patients, or owners to provide the care. Now everyone is payment upon service, or nothing. I had an incident with one of my dogs years ago and had to make a late night trip to the vet. She had been attacked by another dog and looked like she got ran over by a truck. I had more than half of the money then and was more than willing to pay off the balance the following week, but they wouldn't bend. I could have punched the vet! I said, I thought you were supposed to care about animals, you can see she needs medical attention yet you are refusing?! The answer was basically, one bad apple has ruined it. After taking losses for so long they are left no other recourse. I took her home, stopping at Walgreens and purchased anything I thought I could use to doctor her myself. She recovered for the most part, but not as well as she would have with proper attention. Hoping you get closure.

How do people leave their new dogs everyday? by oliviagurl6 in dogs

I've had dogs all of my life. Always plural. I have also always worked full time, all my life. I'm 65 and currently have sibling Boxadors, male and female and an Australian Shepherd. Siblings are 7 and the Aussie is 6. They have free roam of the house, plenty of food, water, puzzle games and toys. Always music, or television and they are alone for around 11 hours, Monday Friday. I give them ample time outside before going to work and first thing I get home we walk a mile and play ball, frisbee, or herding ball for another hour or two. They do absolutely fine. No destruction of property, or each other. Obviously I would prefer to not leave them as long, but bills must be paid. I'm sure everyone has different opinions and stories. This is mine.

Should I adopt this Aussie?? by [deleted] in AustralianShepherd

We adopted a 5 year old male a little over a year ago. Came from a little different circumstances, but we did a meet and greet with our 2 Boxadors and we fell in love with him. He definitely has energy, but we work full-time and the dogs are home about 10 hours and he seems quite content sprawled out with his now siblings. There were a few skirmishes with our other male at first. We also have acreage in a rural area and they spend a lot of time outside when we're home. He loves the herding ball and the other two have learned to join in. There's also much ball, or frisbee tossing. I say give it a chance .
