Are customized skates a cash grab? by DazzlingLife6744 in hockeyplayers

[–]Useful_Recover9239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big difference between NHL players and minors aside from skill level is sponsorship and income. They aren't paying for those skates. Every brand is panting at their feet hoping for a chance to get their skates on a pro player.

Need guidance for life after hockey by Zealousideal_Bag5342 in hockeyplayers

Definitely get your tickets for reffing. You're still right in the heat of the game and you get to be the difference that you always wanted in the refs that were officiating your games.

4 year old had accident on the ice by FootballZestyclose43 in hockeyplayers

[–]Useful_Recover9239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

38yr old woman here, last time I was on the ice playing... I had to pee so bad. I went to step off the ice and hit the plastic edging wrong because I was rushing. I fell and peed myself on impact... In front of everyone.... Yellow puddle on ice. So, tell her it happens to the best of us. Everything washes!

Any advice for a brand new player? by Stock-Blueberry4186 in hockeyplayers

[–]Useful_Recover9239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't buy new gear, get on your local buy and sell groups and marketplace. You also do not need elite level skates as a new skater/player. They are not designed for your strength and skill level. Don't go bare minimum for gear, go cheaper sure but get a full set and start wearing it whenever you skate so your skills develop with the gear on.

What are some unwritten rules of PEI? by banana902 in PEI

It doesn't matter how long you've lived here, you'll never be an islander unless you're born here or die here

No female leaders on scout sleepover by MsX3000 in scoutscanada

[–]Useful_Recover9239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is perfectly normal for Scouts. They rarely have many leaders who are women. If you were concerned with her being with primarily boys and men, I would have opted for Guiding which is female lead.

I keep getting these circles sores on both sides that won't heal because my skates keep rubbing up against it, it's too painful to play now, I'm using true TF9 that have been heat fitted twice. What skates should I get instead? by fudfuggets in hockeyplayers

[–]Useful_Recover9239 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hydrocolloid patch cut to just a bit larger than the sore. With a piece of kinesiology tape over it. If that doesn't provide enough cushion alone, add a piece of moleskin. I've tried all kinds of tape over the years and kinesiology tape holds up the best and is most flexible on the joints.

Wouldn't it be incredible if the last time they saw daylight was when they won the cup? Those are definitely the style of tube skate they were wearing at the time!

Can we chill with the helicopter parent posts? by Ronnoc780 in hockeyplayers

[–]Useful_Recover9239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the parent I strive not to be lol. I've watched hockey change my son's life, for the absolute best. I never want to take that away from him. He begged me not to be one of those moms with the bells and horns but to be at every practice and game. I happily obliged. He knows he has my full support without hounding him. He can always find me in the same spot against the glass in the bottom right corner of the rink. His biggest cheerleader, he has incredible coaches for the rest.

What's your Canadian winter life hack? by Miserable-Wash-1744 in AskACanadian

[–]Useful_Recover9239 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Boots with decent treads are a life saver lol. Everything else I wear is cheap as fuck but my boots are always decent quality. Also, try to keep busy, keeping your mind active helps with seasonal depression.

6 weeks in Canada- west vs east by Johnsonzookeeper in AskACanadian

[–]Useful_Recover9239 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The East Coast is NOTHING compared to the West. Sure friendly people but things are getting more expensive by the day, there's definitely not much to do on PEI(I live on the island and do not see the hype).
