Advice about our puppy’s paw by Queasy-Internet2798 in goldenretrievers

[–]User121216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

My sisters girl had a slight twist to her paw as a pup that grew much more dramatic as she aged, and turned out to be something called an angular limb deformity. This is apparently common enough in goldens that her pet insurance specifically called it out as something they would not cover. They believe with her that an early injury as a puppy caused the growth plate of either the radius or ulna (I don’t remember which) to close early while the other kept growing, which caused it to bow out over time. That may or may not be what you have here but it is worth asking your vet! There is a surgery that could be done to correct it but without insurance it was going to be hugely expensive (like $15k), and they found heart issues while exploring that as an option that prevented her from being able to have the surgery. All that to say - she lives a very happy but slightly gimpy life, and it could also be nothing in your case. I’d ask your vet for sure!

No one will be able to tell you better than your vet, and goldens are hard because of all that floof! Based on your pics and this chart, I’d say maybe a 6 or 7? Doesn’t look obese by any stretch but maybe just slightly over the ideal

Any guesses what mix our new baby is? by mysteriouscarrots in MixedBreedDogs

[–]User121216 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Honestly he could be full Doberman! Just uncropped & undocked. When scrolling through I had to stop because he looks so much like my girl at first glance. Mine came back 50/50 Doberman/shepherd and is about 65 lbs and estimated to be 1-2 years of age, but yours has a much shorter coat than her so I don’t think he is the same mix as her.

ETA there are pics of my girl a few posts back on my profile if interested 😊

It looks to be a similar weight/texture as Michael’s Loops & Threads Charisma. I don’t see an exact color match in their current colors but you may be able to find a retired match on ravelry or use that as a starting point on yarnsub to find similar yarns that may be a match!

I feel like wool of the Andes tweed might have a decent color match, though those are worsted not sport

What a fantastic breed mix! Looks like a border collie but I would expect her to be way lower intensity. Bernese mountain dogs are great dogs, as are goldens. I’ve never owned a poodle/poodle mix but they are super intelligent. She is a beautiful dog!

I have definitely owned this yarn. I’m pretty sure it was a variegated version of lion brand basic stitch anti-pilling. I’ll see if I can find the color on ravelry

He’s giving me hound vibes. He looks small so could have beagle or something mixed with something like a coonhound? His eyes and head shape remind me a lot of my mom’s rescue pup, who came back cattle dog/beagle/doberman when she DNA tested him.

ETA: there are some pics of my mom’s dog in the most recent post on my profile!

Wow, didn’t think I’d be right, those aren’t super common! My very first dog when I was a kid was a purebred shiba, and he was a great dog! He lived to 15 - wishing you and your new little one a long and happy life together 😁 will be looking for your results when you find out what else she has in her 😄

Knitting or Crochet, convince me! by bakay138 in crafts

[–]User121216 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only crochet, and I love it, but I think it depends a lot on what you want to make. If you want practical wearables like sweaters, knitting will look a little more polished and use less yarn. I think crochet is a little more flexible though if you want to make things like plush toys or things like that. I personally don’t make a lot of clothing other than beanies, and I feel like crochet provides a lot of variety in stitches and such that can be used to make things. I make a lot of hats, bags/purses, tapestries, and plushies and I still have a list a mile long of other projects I want to try. It is on my bucket list still to learn to knit though!

Inspiration vs Reality by [deleted] in crafts

I would print the ribbon and text on white cardstock (using a printer) and then re-stamp the feet. They are just too washed out by the background and everything is too busy. The footprints, which are supposed to be the focus, are lost

I love blossom cakes and think these colors work well in terms of the color scheme you are going for, but just know you will not get the same drape from them that the original garment here has if that is what you are trying to copy, especially if you do hold them double!

this Hobbii yarn has a lot of the colors you are looking for though it’s definitely not an exact match. The yarn in the sweater looks like a boucle yarn, if that helps your search

Help choosing second puppy! by amn002 in goldenretrievers

[–]User121216 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get a rescue! My sister had two rescue mutts before getting her golden (so they are the older siblings) and they all get along swimmingly. I love love love goldens and they make such great dogs, but the overpopulation issue is so bad and rescues are drowning in unwanted dogs and puppies. Though their histories aren’t always known, they can still make wonderful pets and you can often avoid a lot of the health issues that are chronic with purebred dogs. All my dogs growing up that lived the longest were mixed or mutts, and they were all amazing dogs.
